The last time I asked for depressive reads including suicide, I was pleasantly suprised by some of the recommendations. Thus, please recommend me any novel with a dark part or a part where the reader gets to see depressed characters. Only requirements: should get a rating of 4/5 stars or more from you if you were to rate the novel based on the writing quality no extremely or purposely annoying characters throughout the whole novel. (This includes extremes of denseness and other things you can think of as very annoying and would make you (maybe) drop the novel) should either give the reader a sense of depression or be pretty dark in thematic (i.e. a close up view of the life of an ordinary person becoming a slave and deteriorating over time) PS: the suffering person doesn't have to be the MC. I only want it to be a substantial part of the story/plot Spoiler It should be obvious, but I don NOT look for any generic ...-xia novel nor for standard japanese medieval fantasy novels, where what I want is only the background story and doesn't get picked up anymore after the second chapter The Great Demon King and such would still barely make the cut though. (iirc the MC was also a slave at the beginning, and thought it didn't get picked up, the novel is dark themed. iirc) Happy endings and all are fine, though I prefer tragedies. I hope you get what I want. If not, just recommend me a novel based on what you think I want. Thanks
Heh, Welcome to NHK, it's about a drug addict otaku NEET, it's a black comedy, makes me laugh in many life issues that should be taken seriously, but I think you better read the manga or watch the anime, no one translated the novel.
Hmm. Did you ever read The Tutorial Is Too Hard? I don't know about depression, per se, but there are some pretty dark and twisted moments. The main character has quite a few screws loose. It's nice.
yes. but only well drawn ones. manga I really enjoyed for example are sun ken rock, another one about a dude with a cross out for mafia revenge and some manhwa
The Second Coming of Avarice has a depressing start Dungeon Defense ain't depressing, it just awakens your inner sociopath
doesnt necessarily have to be depressing. a good read with a dark part is also fine. Dungeon Defense and Reverend Insanity both fit
If you don’t mind shoujo novels the My fiancé is in love with my little sister Cause I swear to god I cried every two chapters. There’s this whole mystery thing going on with why these characters are suffering etc. It’s not apparent in the beginning but it gets more and more interesting.
+1 to The Second Coming of Avarice. MC starts as a gambling addict which has totally screwed up all his relationships. It seems you have already read Reverend Insanity which has a quite a good dark theme. what about warlock of magus world? quite similar too. Divine Throne of Primordial Blood has a blind protagonist at the beginning.
I'll separate my recommendations in two categories: 1 Things that are depressed Oyasumi Punpun is as depressing as it is well drawn, it is also my favorite manga. Fate Zero is a classic for depressing fantasy. 2. Things that contain depression Katanagatari is one hidden gem of an anime. NHK_ni_Youkoso is literaly about mental illness Steins_Gate is a time travel master piece Ano_Hana will make you cry
My Fiance is in Love with My Little Sister (This made me depressed for awhile, I looked through my whole reading list just to recommend you this novel, cause its just sad... for me)
