you know, those hero gets summoned to fight the demon lord standard bland novel that literally every author and their mother likes to parody? you know how in Death March there's that other hero that gets mentioned for a bit and was sent back to earth(or something), yeah what's his story? i dont really care im just curious. i'll probably read it tho as i have nothing to read atm
I think it is more like a person is summoned to the Hero position from video games like DQ and stuff, not an actual novel trope. I think people just liked the concept of being a hero and didn't have a good idea as to how they were going to put themselves in there. So, take a videogame and just switch the characters around a bit. Boom, story.
Literally just search isekai and it's there. Sure, there are coming more and more parodies or novels with twists, but yknow why? Because the isekai market got saturated. It's not like it came out of nowhere, and parodied something that didnt exist, mhmm?
I don’t think I’ve ever read an actual novel with a summoned hero that goes along with everything. If I had, I forgot. It’s usually either one of these troupes: 1) MC gets betrayed and grows OP 2) MC gets kicked out for being useless/weak and turns out OP 3) MC returns to the world and has a past as the hero 4) MC is like the side-character or companion and not the Hero, but is still more OP 5) MC runs away from summoners 6) MC kills summoners then runs away 7) MC gets transported to another world, but isn’t one of the Heros nor summoned near them.
I Reincarnated For Nothing sort of follows this trope? The characters are what makes that novel good though. Mushoku Tensei is your OG Isekai. If not, Invisible Dragon.
Right, but the concept of being a Hero comes from western tales where the knight defeats the dragon, saves the princess, and lives happily ever after. The famous games that tried to iterate this genre had this kind of setup. Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, they are the Hero, they gather companions to fight alongside, win the heart of a beauty, and live a happy end. No, well, most of them end that way. Anyways, I think a very VERY good movie to watch considering this thread's topic would be Flight of Dragons. MC gets summoned to save a world of magic, meets some powerful and unique companions, stops the evil man, gets the girl. Cut and paste, if you ask me. Great movie, too.

oh, and if you want something more modern, try that Jackie Chan/Jet Li movie Forbidden Kingdom. This type of trope is better off being a short story rather than a long drawn out one, and perfect for movies or stand-alone books.
