Discussion Has fanfiction ever ruined a fandom for you?

So Twisted wonderland hasn't released in the US yet. When it first came out, I was super hyped and all, because *great character design* and all, so I didn't really think much of it when I started scouring tumblr for more information on it. Somehow, I ended up on ao3 (not somehow, I know exactly how, but I refuse to acknowledge it) reading a yandere x reader with the boys from TWD.

Let me make this clear: that was one of the first yandere fics I had ever read, and dear god do I regret it.

not because the writing was bad or anything, it good! great! so great, in fact, that now i'm terrified to play the game.

And I know, the yandere aspect isn't for everyone, and that I should have listened to the warnings the author gave- and you're right. But, in my flimsy, pathetic defense, that was like, the second yandere fic I had read, and my first one was more of a "soft" yandere (though i hadn't realized at the time) so I thought, "Hey! the other one wasn't so bad, why would this be any worse?" and I ended up being more scared than when I read "I rely on kisses to clear survival games" (which was my first horror Bl and a huge deal for me because I am terrified of horror and gore)

So- has anything like that happened to you guys?

 

Yes I saw a Professor Snape x Tellitubbies scat fanfic. Now I’m traumatized and can’t see Teletubbies the same anymore

 

I have several questions.

 

Tons of fanfictions have. I remember seeing a Mineta x All Might fanfic for MHA and that absolutely traumatized me. There were also ones like Endeavor x Shoto or Endeavor x Touya. These types of fanfics are part of the reason I don’t read anime, tv show, and book type fanfics anymore.

 

Teletubbies were terrifying to begin with. I wonder how the author came up with it though.

 

the author probably had a thing for Teletubbies. Probably had a crush on them as child too.
