I have a similar experience, that one time my girlfriend crying beside me while I play my Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on my psp. She starting get angry when I ignore her and she try to grab my psp. And when before she can touch my psp I hug her and than give her a kiss. She was immediately blushing and than try to break free from my hug. But I hold her tight than push her to the bed. Well,I guess opinions. One of us might be right,or both are wrong...If you ask me,every girl is different. For example,my sis didn't she'd a tear when her pet died..She just buried it and went on with life. So I feel that in the end,all that we are saying...Might be bs~~
As I girl, I can tell you I would be super pissed at at a guy who did that. Give her an couples of hours to cool down a little then go to her with chocolate and a condolence card for her cat. Then be prepared of listen to her to whatever she has to say and don't interrupt her. Then tell the she is much more important then any game to you that you are very sorry and what will it do to make it up the her. You should also make clear that you were just a little upset and had no idea she was behind you and it was a complete accident that you hit her. Just be patient and kind. Actions do speak louder then words, so maybe find a nice picture of her cat and get it framed.
