So, I decided to update my windows 10 after around 4 month of inactivity. Fast forward to the latest update, I still see the data usage of host process for windows services rivaling my current android studio download on glasswire. Currently it is taking 337.4MB compared android studio 403 MB. This is strange, because 2 Mbps is taken by firefox, and the task manager only shows 0.1 Mbps occasionally for IP Helper and DNS client (under svchost). So what does happen here? is it really taking 27 GB for windows update? Is something piggybacking the connection of svchost.exe? How can I analyze and put this to stop?
Its entirely possible for windows updates to be totally 27 GB if its going through every win 10 update. (off the top of this birds head) There have been 5 and 10 GB single updates before so the total would be fairly large. Run virus checks ect anyway just to be sure
https://www.windowscentral.com/how-stop-updates-installing-automatically-windows-10 https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordon...s-10-how-to-stop-forced-updates/#7be58f5e46f6 microsoft's force feeding policy is not strong enough~
disable windows update using group policy editor, and disable the background intelligent transfer service and windows update service.
still don't wanna use 10 ~ friend who know work on IT related stuff told this dumb cat 10 is vista on going so no no~ beside data packet is pricey~ just 1Giga of automatic update is enough to scare me~ I just casual user who wanna something stable~ seeing my lil bro laptop which forced to used 10~ meh~ btw Apple is meh~
I googled that. Confused, and then decided to ask here. I don't mind if it is from the windows update service. I just want to know if it is truly from windows update service or something else that may or may not be malicious. Hmm... I got unlimited data plan right now. So updates doesn't really matter (it is intermittent instead of continuous right?) You can with disabling BITS, if what I googled is correct. No response from malwarebytes and windows defender. Either it is false negative or it is really negative. Update: No unexplainable data transfer between 1 hour ago and now. Now I cannot be sure whether the process that took the bandwidth is from windows or not, or can I? Anyone knows if I can inspect the data of the previous time?
it doesn't just do windows update bits also handles your diagnostic data, syncs your contacts, your apps, etc. so yeah it does do quite a bit of transfer, windows is filled with telemetry shit. better disable it. edit: and svhost is not just for windows update, all microsoft transfer goes through it
Did you read those articles? You can at most delay an update for a period of time, preventing them from being automatically installed when they're downloaded.. which they'll eventually be anyway. For the best delays, too, you can't be using windows 10 home edition. You have to be using pro or one of the business alternatives. Even stopping the service won't work for some updates, according to the Forbes article you just linked. Windows 10 just gonna do what it wants~
