萌妻食神 - méng qī shí Shén - adorable \wife \to eat?\ God or diety Google roughly translates it to adorable wife eating god lol Bing translates it roughly to God of the wife I think it might be Adorable Wife Cooking God but that sounds awkward to me so i want some suggestions on how it should be translated but not so awkward This novel has an anime series starting up too, i thought bout making a thread for pickup but first i need to get the title straight at least, ...then again idk if anyone picked it up yet but i didn't see it on NU when i searched some keywords which i thought was relevant to the title.
萌: can mean adorable, a term of endearment 妻: wife 食: food, to eat 神: god, divine, deity, supernatural Adorable wife is the god of cooking? Hmm
Adorable Wife Cooking God is probably the closest and most literal translation, you can work from there. Also: 萌 pretty much the Chinese version of 'Moe'. 食神 is a Stephen Chow movie translated as god of cookery (1996). Therefore: My cute (moe) wife is the god of cookery
萌 = sprout 妻 = means "wife" in the first tone but means marrying a girl/rape in the fourth tone 食 = have three other "versions" in pinyin "yì" and "sì". But "shí" means eat/food/eclipse 神 = god/spirit and can also mean amazing or clever BTW: the above is from my dictionary
Lol, there is a bit of gobbling but ML isn't a god tho. xD mm the ambiguous suggestiveness there This sounds plausible. Either of these can work as well. TY for all the suggestions, after i posted this i tried to find the official raws so to speak and found it was qidian and I'm hesitating on the pick up thread because i know there's issues with Qidian and it grabbing up translations on a whim.
For sprout character, more appropriate definition would be moe or adorable (it's loanword from Japan)
I guess you could always sign up with QI? although depends if you don't hate QI so much that you are okay with that/okay with their payment system too which is kinda lame granted
Oh i don't mind Qidian, like translations that are already present before they decided to grab them back i just go read on the translators site as for what novels that started or moved on there with translators consent i read on their app... as for this novel i talked about, idm it getting picked up by Qidian, but i'm not up for translating it because i can only do crappy mtl at best lol. xD I guess i can go to their website and see if it can but put up on the list of new novels to appear hopefully.
Honestly it can mean a few different things, with "God of Eating" being one of the most prominent, although I like "Divine Gourmet". I'd read a bit more into the book before settling on what the title should be. I'm also a bit hesitant to use the word "god" in any translation of Chinese writing, because "神" is used in much more varied ways. I like "cute" or "adorable". Like most loanwords, the new form doesn't use the same definition and connotation as the original, and it's not equivalent to the Japanese "moe".
