Recommendations "Historical" novels without upperclass MCs

    Any suggestions for historical (vaguely or not) novels where the main character isn't some sort of aristocrat. I like stories of balls and pretty dresses and court politics well enough, but it gets boring after awhile. (No harems/BL/GL. Not really my thing.) Preferably, none of the main characters are aristocrats, but I know that's pretty much impossible in historical novels.

    Maybe:
    Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (JPN, MC's a maid in the palace's harem)
    Housekeeper of the Hundred Blossom Palace (same as above)
    The Eunuch is Pregnant (CHN, crossdressing)
