Discussion Hollywood Adaptations of Anime

So, with Death Note & Ghost in the Shell getting American remakes, I'm actually getting kind of hyped. Not even specifically because of the movies themselves (though I'm looking forward to that too), but because it looks like it's a legitimate attempt to source from a different type of media. In my opinion, Hollywood has been stagnating in it's movie releases for a while now with some exceptions (like Marvel). Why do I say stagnating? The remakes of the remakes of the remakes, the movies with the exact same re-used plotline, and not all too much originality on stories. The biggest reason? They don't source very well. Movies made from books tend to be successful if left alone, but every director thinks they have to add their own "personal touch" or they're not doing there job right a lot of the time. But now here we are, sourcing from games for Assassin's Creed, and now getting anime based movies. What I'm hoping for is that at least one of these movies becomes fantastically successful, leading to many more adaptations coming to freshen up the movie industry a bit. Anyway, does anybody else have any thoughts on the situation?

TL;DR : Hollywood movies mostly suck nowadays, hopefully anime based ones start a trend, watcha think?

 

When LN and Manga get adapted to anime they're usually disappointing... So I'm not having high hopes for movies

it's impossible for it to be any good. There isn't enough respect for the source material in hollywood movies. They also tend to change the story to accommodate a wider audience

 

agreed. I love it when fans hype it for no reason (except the bad track record) and then bitch about it when it comes out as shit
