Why do I want my big brother to shut up? BECAUSE HE KEEPS TALKING ABOUT ECONOMY NONSTOP! ( I hate HATE the topic of economy, and he knows that. ) he says "your almost 20 years old, who will have to vote soon, you have to know more about the world.", "Turkey's economy sucks, Americans are super rich!", or "I don't have a future here!"... WHY IS HE SO OBSESSED WITH THIS!? HE'S LIKE A KID, WHO'S LOOKING FOR A FIGHT! HE'S 28 YEARS OLD AND HE'S SUPPOSEDLY MY 'BIG BROTHER'. yeah, I'm aware that Turkey's economy is at a DISASTROUS state, but I don't want to spent a short human life by worrying about something I can't fix!... I'm worried about him. he's stressed, he's angry at almost everything about life, and here I am, already depressed even without thinking about economy, and he's trying to force me to think about it.

I bet, he thinks that I'm naive and ignorant, but I'm not. I just choose not to see it. I'm already dealing with my disability and mental problems. if I start to see the world like he does, I just know that I'd go mad and lose my will to live.
the only thing that keeps me sane is my school and parents.

what do you think? do you think I'm naive? what should I do? I'm waiting for your advises.

    thank you.

Is he somebody who actually studies economy/works in related field or is he one of "those" people?

You could talk at length about a topic which he has no interest in (like politics), and when he says that he doesn’t care, just say that it is very important.

I mean he's 28. As a dude the same age these things are normal worries. The closer you get to your 30's and you fully understand your responsibilities, prospects, future the more you have to pay attention to this things. If you were 15/16 I'd understand the frustration but at 20 you are an adult yourself. This stuff is important even in richer countries like the US. I know quite a few guys in their early 20's who have nothing going for them in skills or education and honestly they are just going to end up fucked economically or living paycheck to paycheck for the rest of their life.

Edit: The fact he's "nagging" you about this at least shows he cares enough about you and your future.

Edit 2: Seeing all the "annoy him back" responses I will just tell you that is a tactic you only do as a young teenager because you can get away with that. Doing it past the age of 16 is just ridiculously immature and doesn't really fly. I get the type of demographic and the mindset a lot of this sub has but I really don't recommend taking any advice that is basically asking you to incite conflict with family members. One of the best advices I have followed personally or professionally is that in any relationship issue the 3 things to do are take a breath, put yourself into their position and mindset as best as possible, and try to talk it out once you processed it.

Recommend that he starts screaming at the internet for clout and trying to make money. Except couch it as making a difference in your country. That should give him an outlet to vent. Also, a word to your brother, don't follow the current US's economic direction; there is on!y one reserve currency.

that is the problem. I don't like politics either, and whenever I talk about something else he starts to talk about economy again; like it's the only thing matters in the world.

From my experience with these types of conversations, you will probably need to genuinely see this conversation through to the end before he stops going on about it. From the sound of it, you are giving him the 'yeah whatever' treatment which probably just makes him think that this young'un is unaware of the real issues and makes him keep bringing it up. You need to tak it through and ask him what solutions there are and what he thinks should happen until he is satisfied that you care/understand the issue and drops it himself. He will like not bring it up for a while after this.

Don't you know the opposite of love isn't hate, but indifference? Just plug some ear phones and chill for some music or something.
Just let him know that you're not interested in his magic words by just plain ignoring him. Even a blockhead like him can get the message.
Remember, respect is earned, not entitled to(even if it's your brother).

... Or you know, let him finish his piece and have a heart-to-heart talk on what you feel about his constant nagging..

then I'm afraid there's no way to stop him. Just admit that it's something he is worrying about, while probably not understanding it, and lend him an hear. There really is no other way.
I mean, you could just not care, but that would be a bit mean. Humans, I have noticed, are flawed beings, and sometimes you have to give a bit of way to make a relationship between two parties continue in a healthy way.

People inevitably have their interests and disinterests, and will inevitably tend to want conversations to move towards things that interest them.

If you're getting way too much economics, the solution is to reduce contact with your brother.

Note the term reduce! It's not eliminate. It sounds like you're annoyed/unhappy with the conversation as is, and if you let this continue you'll associate those negative feelings with your brother, and then you won't like him, and you'll lose sight of things you shouldn't.

Also, if you expose yourself to less economics/politics/etc, then the remainder will naturally be pushed towards the best and most interesting points that he has to offer, and the conversation still might remain boring/pointless, but at least the return on investment will improve.

Sorry but if you weren't naive and ignorant you won't make this thread.

Your problem is that you think it's an issue.
Talking about the economy is no big deal.
Being naive and ignorant is no big deal either.

Inferiority complexes that lead to overreaction is a big deal.

We are all naive and ignorant depending on the context.

    Thinking you aren't is tomfoolery

Or you can just give him a hug.

My family doesn't hug but I have conditioned them to hug.
It takes practice and perseverance lol

You can also learn to skill to zone out and pretend to be listening.

Put an earphone in one year.

Learn to sleep with your eyes open.

    The possibilities are endless.

I generally fail at making my brothers shut up with their nonsense because they take way too much pleasure both in yelling rubbish and in bothering me.
But there was a time when my brother loved exclaiming some word I forgot each time things when wrong and he quickly started using it whenever I would do anything. I choose the exclamation Madonna, because it felt so melodramatic, and started using it all the time in the same way, till his annoyance at my cries shallowed his pleasure in upsetting me with his own. He stopped and peace came back upon the land!
So maybe pick some subject of importance (that you like, perhaps art? Art is rad and very important to a society. If you lack things to say about it, I recommend finding websites like Artips that tell some anecdotes and stories about art every few days. Or if you like science or history then there are hundreds of fascinating youtube channels about them. Or technology, that's important to be aware of, also for economy so he can't talk back. There's that news site that sends great short & compact & easy to understand news per emails: The Morning Brew, that has a technology newsletter. ) and talk his ears full about it. That way you have fun learning stuff, which is also useful, and when he comes up to you, you are armed to talk back aplenty!! If he isn't looking for a real dialogue, he'll soon become irrirated and hopefully "give up" on you. Or if he's petty he could complain to your parents (I dunno what your family's like so blindly assuming here based on my bros lol) but would that get him anywhere?

Well, just walk away. Or if you want to be honest about it, which is what I personally do, then tell him straight up that you are not emotionally stable right now, you have a lot of internal things to deal with, and that you want to let those things remain in the backburner for as long as you are able to, for now. Tell him that you are fully aware of what you should know and etc etc.

To be honest, I'm around his age and I get it. You tend to get slapped with those kind of stuff when you enter the workforce. *sigh* He's probably going through a crisis himself and wants to share it with someone. Maybe he's trying to prepare you earlier on for the things he is now encountering which he himself is clearly unprepared for. So yeah, since he looks like he is trying to prepare you for the worst, just tell him outright what you think.

Any problem has many solutions, the limiting factor are your imagination and how far you are willing to go. Have you considered a stapler or a brick ? Perhaps a crosshatch would be prettier. Duct tape or superglue might be quicker.
A more peaceful approach is what I call the "Idiot method". Have you ever seen or heard an idiot argue ? They will counter your logic with nonsense, bring you down to their level and win using their abundant experience. So when your bro starts spouting economics, you start spouting something else entirely. It could be a subject you specialise in or just some random nonsense.(This method only works against other men, especially the logical ones. )

If you live in Turkey and Turkey's economy is disasterous, you SHOULD worry about the economy. Don't ignore it. This is your life. If you ignore it, and you later have children, the problem of your generation will be inherited by your children. Problems do not resolve itself, it needs someone to resolve it.

Sure you can't fix the economy of the whole nation, but you can fix your personal economy. So what if Turkey will follow Lebanon? Are you just going to sit back and wait to starve to death as inflation rises exponentially? Do not choose to ignore, this is your life, you will live it. Ai-chan will not tell you to fix the country but at the very least, take steps so that you and those precious to you will not suffer when things reach the breaking point.

When the economy reaches the breaking point, it will be too late for you to do anything about it. In preparation for that inevitability, you should start thinking about it now.

Is there a chance you will starve to death? Start a small scale farm. Your lawn is a good place. Start learning how to grow fruit trees and vegetables, which would be very valuable when the currency is worth less than the paper it's printed on.

Is there a chance you will be killed by mobs? Try to find out ways to move to a safer place and take steps so that you can afford that move.

Is there a chance there will be civil war and you will be drafted or forced to join the rebels at gunpoint? Start thinking of joining the army or migrate to another country.

Ai-chan doesn't care about you or your future, but that's because Ai-chan doesn't know you. You know yourself. This is your life, you will live it. Start making it better.

As for your brother, try to learn some general knowledge. It's quite likely that he just doesn't know what to talk about with you and falls back to what he knows best. This way, you can argue with him and perhaps put him in his place because now you have the knowledge to make your own arguments.
