Do you remember learning to read? And how did you learn? The people of NUF are readers, so it would be fun to share. I remember I was looking at a book called "Dick and Jane" from my Grandmother and suddenly I understood what it said. I had previously learned the alphabet and my parents had read fairy tales and other stories to me. Learning to read was mostly going up to adults while I was reading and asking "what does this word mean/say?".
Well, my mother thought me how to read when I was 4. She's a teacher so yeah... I had to do exercises when I was a 4 year old brat. Most of my English vocabularies are from songs.
An evil organisation captured me and tried to use their brainwashing techniques on me, claiming that they wanted me to 'integrate' properly with other people when they just wanted to diminish my genius. They forced me to learn to read. That evil organisation is known as...School. *shudders*
Read..well school of course, but..I think games are probably the no.1 reason my english is where it is right now ._.
Well first school, then I just used to read a lot more stories in the school library than most kids back when I was a 7 year old and that's where my habit of reading came from, as the years went on by I read more and more books that were more challenging and voila.
For me it was all because of Enid Blyton. Started with Famous Five and Secret Seven in second grade. Then Five Find Outers in third grade as well as harry potter. Then just progressing. Used to read comics in first grade. But my first proper novel was Famous Five: Smugglers Top. edit: I forgot to mention Hardy boys. kinda grew up with them
Hmm had letter blocks as toys some children stories. I remember being quite suprised in primary school that so few can read.
me moms teach me to read word per-word at 3 and half managing to read a sentence at 4 and half, only to understand the meaning the thing that i read. kind of you were told/teach by other to read some foreign language succesfull yet, didn't understand the meaning the thing that you read. while you continue to read it innocently
I learned to read in my native language in school, and english i played so many games that at some point i could read english without any problems.
Well for my native language its just what school teaches you with reading stories for u and let u assimilate the letters/words and what they mean. For english as my 2nd language it all began when i was playing some child games until nowadays (games and novels ftw)
Dunno, my dad bought me some books but i didn't read them. Until one day i was so freaking bored i picked one up and never lost my love for books ever since
By reading the letters on a school textbook and by using various words from different written texts as a way to exercise. I can't really recall how I've learned to do it, but, first of all, I've learned the spoken words and those spoken words, most of them, are written as they are heared - so, I've began with learning the letters and then by learning the connection between the words and the letter, i.e. E cames from Eva. I'm talking about how I've learned to read in romanian.
Chuck Norris took a dictionary, and peeled off the words. Then he imprinted them into my brain at birth. So I've always known how to read.
