I just don't get it, and don't think will ever do. How the hell does someone enjoy a novel where the MC is actively trying to prove how he is the biggest dickhead out there? The stories would always be revolving around the MC shitting on randoms who will never appear again and the interactions are ridiculous. In such novels, authors make all char-mc interactions as either of pure hate, veneration or rape, even when they meet for the first time. Why?
Also let me not get to the cringey descriptions used quite often. For example
-"grinned like a bloom of a thousand flowers" describing a female smile. Why? She just smiled.
    -Jade this and jade that
    -exponential numbers

A side question, why does 99% of Chinese novels have to be Xianxia?

Bruh, you just questioned almost the entirety of CN novels.

It's more of a wuxia, xianxia, and xuanhuan mix with some CN novels belonging to none of the three.

Keep in mind that this is probably a satire copypasta. Feel free to use this format to make a few more threads criticising other common genres you either do or don't like~

It is not 99%! Just 98% lol.

As of enjoying... meh, turn your brain off I guess. Nowadays I just stick to porn, they have more plot than xianxias.

Sometimes people are just bloodthirsty, and its their fantasy. Everybody got thier own vices. (i don't care much for this trope tho)

And surprisingly i actually think there are more stories than just xianxia. My most Chinese books i read aren't web novels so... i don't get that issue.

    Because it's China.
Living under a tyrannical regime is not exactly easy.
Most readers (or even authors) get supressed in their daily life without having to ability to even retaliate.
Therefore, they create fictional works about slaughtering without a care if someone looks at them wrong.
In real life, they can only suck it up and lower their heads like defeated dogs.
    You get the idea.

It's easier to write cut and paste novels.

To be honest, I think the issue here isn't the genre of novel, but rather the author's ability to write. Obviously descriptions may be a bit over-the-top, but I imagine they are much more poetic in the original language. I've read a couple xianxia style novels and really liked them, although they are BL and mostly written by women (imo, most novels written by straight men aren't that great anyway, due to copious self-insert + lack of respect for women being portrayed in writing).

I'm a little surprised that people are answering seriously, but I guess that's fine too. Personally, I thought this thread was hilarious and want to see a few more of them done.

Enjoyed at first because it was something different from Japanese stories but now I'm tired of them. Being racist and stealing credit is encouraged and glorified in most of their stories so it says something. You can truly tell how insecure China is when comparing itself to the rest of the world when reading their stories.

Funny thing this is really false, their country is practically no different than any other western countries if you compare quality of life (Well yes if you go into rural areas that's different) but in general most chinese novels aren't revolved around dickhead mcs. Theres quite a range and they are usually better written due to the competitive market out there in china.

But the typical 'Hot headed, harem loving mc' is not the majority it's just that translaters tend to pick them due to their popularity and income it can bring.

It's the same for japenese novels aswell, the light novels to some extent are perverted well some of the popular ones atleast.

But in summary there are alot more translated Xiania or wuxia novels. So you have a greater chance of picking up a shit one, same goes with any genre of novel that is popular you get your good and bad.

Oh wait, sorry this was supposed to go to your harem thread, not this one. Can't tell the difference from your cut and paste complaints.

You have to understand the Chinese psyche before you truly trash all the novels.

Firstly, the "flowery language" is because the authors get paid per character, imagine you get paid for each word you write, would you just say "She got out of the lake and was beautiful", or "the moonlight shone upon her glistening skin as she shyly began to rise from the lake, each droplet of water a falling star and just as beautiful as they trailed down her perfect curves to return to the waters of the lake."

Second, character part 1. According to long standing Chinese custom "it is ok as long as you don't get caught." Even the best behaved Chinese guys would r@pe a girl if they knew she would not wake up until after he was finished and had left. Having taught in China for 6 years I have had enough of where former students did things just because "Dad will make the problem disappear... ... or she will."

Finally, character part 2. The modern philosophy takes from part 1 and employs the one child policy. This generation (40 and younger) have had the entire three generations focusing resources on them and then opening to the US imported the capitalist ideologies. So you have a brat who believes everyone else is just to be stepped on as they rise to the top.

Now, having said all that. There is about 1.5 billion Chinese. You can never whitewash an entire society with the same standards. There are good Chinese and bad Chinese, but in todays society a "true hero" like Superman is no longer valid, while "anti-heroes" like Deadpool are becoming the norm. Many of these authors know their audience are repressed so they have a MC that does the opposite and if they write about rebelling against a government they will disappear faster than you can say "and this years Nobel Peace prize goes to"...

If all of that was TL:DR, just remember the quote from "As good as it gets"
"I think of a man. And I take away reason and accountability"

Personally I just treat them as china's version of fantasy, whether it's xianxia or other genres like wuxia, xuanhuan. Some books are really good but you have to dig deeper to find them as most of the translated ones are, as what said above, repeats the same formula. Namely, things like power wanking, face-slapping, needless happenings of cruelty, arrogant young masters, ruthless (but simp) mc, and the like give instant gratification to readers who just want to self-insert without caring for quality.

The plot and characters of chinese novels can be entertaining enough that I don't complain about them. What drives me insane is the cultivation. In order to extend their lives to millennia, characters spend 80~90% of their time cultivating. Then when you reach the level of having a lifespan that high, you will have to spend centuries of non-stop meditation. What's the point of extending your life if you cannot live it?
