@Tony I have a question. I have two blogs, blog A and blog B(both blogs are free to view, no paywall, etc...). Can I post actual chapters in blog B and but post the links to the actual chapters in blog A. and only blog A is listed on Nu. Does Nu allow this? @Westeller do you know if this is okay?
I think that's fine, yeah. Not sure why you'd split them up that way, but there's no particular reason we can't link to an announcement post that's on a different site, if that's your preference. Hmm.. Is this an anti-aggregator gimmick? If so, I seriously recommend you stop wasting your time. Aggregators are a fact of life for anyone who translates, and you just have to be prepared to accept that some people are going to steal and profit off of your work. I know that sucks, but there's nothing you can do that won't be a tremendous hassle for your more loyal readers. Anything less than extreme measures - like only presenting your novel as a flash video or something bizarre like that - will simply not work. Even if some little trick seems to work temporarily, they'll quickly work around you. It's ultimately a losing battle that consumes your time and resources for no benefit to you.
Does NU only support wordpress? What about weebly? I post solo projects on my own but Idk how to upload it to NU and it's driving me cray cray
You can't upload anything to NU, but you can add your series to the directory using the Add Group (if your group isn't added already), the Add Series (if your series isn't added already) and the Add Release buttons. In this order. NU accepts any host AFAIK, I even saw some people that used Tumblr for their translations.
@Tony I uploaded around 20 new releases for a new group I added, but haven't seen any appear, and the group isn't searchable yet either. Would you mind helping me check? The group name is Bookista. It's the first time I add releases and I wanna make sure I didn't do anything wrong. I also changed a book cover for Dragon Marked War God, cuz the one you have up is from another novel, but it appears in my logs yet it hasn't been changed. It's been a few days. Thanks a lot for your reply!
@Tony Our group releases on Patreon. I figured out a non-published API that I use like a RSS feed to grab the title and link to new releases and post on Discord with them. The "RSS" feed even has data attributes like whether the post is viewable or not (e.g. paywalled until a later date), when it was posted, when it's scheduled to be free to the public, etc. Is there any chance of the NU scraper being updated to support Patreon for auto-approved novels (obviously only approving non-paywalled chapters)? If not, would it be acceptable to auto post requests for approval via a script? DM me for details on the undocumented Patreon RSS API.
@Tony Thanks for the response. That's a shame to hear. If I made a RSS feed for the Patreon posts, and self-hosted it, would NU be willing to use that? There wouldn't be any content on the site. Just the RSS feed. I would be happy to make the RSS feed comply with any required data scheme NU expects. If not, is that also a no to semi-automating (client-side) the submission of chapters for approval by NU staff?
Only groups are allowed to submit a series? How about if the real author wants to submit his/her original story? Thanks
@Tony Novel Updates is not continue grabbing my new release, what's wrong with it,can you help me,my group is ibig5 thanks
Hi, I am pretty new when it comes to updating my "group's" chapter and status. I am also kind of too lazy to scroll through the whole comment section, so I am asking things that might be already answered. I just recently upgrade my website plan, and I have a new post about my status, as a translator. When I got onto the "Profile Settings," I don't see anything that would help me change my group's info. Should I just re-add in my group and the "chapters" I have posted before the URL change?
no. please use the form (linked below) to report changes (either for the group url, or the affected novels/chapters, or both). please also include the new url for chapters if possible. otherwise, a link to the TOC is also fine. https://www.novelupdates.com/report-problem/
@Tony I don't think my chapters are getting auto-approved. Can you look into this: https://www.novelupdates.com/series/amaki-yumeshi/ Thanks for your time.
@Tony I'm trying to figure out how to upload this chinese novel I translated. It's completely translated so Im not sure. Should I be updating it chapter by chapter or the entire thing in one google doc? I have it both ways.
You don't upload novels to NU, NU only links to translations. Upload it in whatever way you prefer in a site of your choice and then add the links to the release to NU.
