Like the Title said. I have had my laptop since 2013 as a Graduation gift from highschool and it still works, but there are scratches in the screen and some of the plastic in the edges are getting loose. I do not intend to replace it yet, I was just curious how long your laptops usually lasted?

Please place it in units of time that I can understand. I would prefer if you used the unit of "Number of young masters face slapped by the MC"

it should last you about 4 years. if you can replace the hard drive with an ssd, you could make it seem like new if you arent too concerned about the speed. if you bought it with an intel processor and it was an i7 processor, I would say keep it and simply swap the HDD with an SSD and maybe change the ram. my desktop is still good after 6 years and I dont plan on changing any parts yet.
4 years should be a standard minimum time. if you are buying a new one in less time than that, you are going too far. I would say start using a new desktop and if you wind up not using your laptop anymore because you prefer your desktop, then buy a new laptop since you will be frustrated with the speed of your laptop

Just casually replace or clean its heatsink so it wont overheat or burn its parts. You can customize it and add a cooler. So it will last longer

3-5 years depending on intensity of usage, you also need to get lucky that you didn't buy one with development issues like overheating etc.

I have a laptop from when XP was still the newest version, and it still works. I also had a laptop break after 4.5 years, though that one had an unfortunate introduction to the side of a table, followed by a swift meeting with the floor. I also have a 9 year old laptop that works fine, if slow.

I'm using apple macbook early 2008 for office and some light browsing. And I have a 2007 netbook that my worker use for office too. That oldies laptop is hard too kill.

Most old laptop still usable at 10 to 20 years. New ones always broken is 2 or 3 years.

I manged to use one of my old laptops for a good 8-10 years of heavy use. Though I had to bake the graphics card every once and a while to... Convince it to keep functioning. Though if you are talking super high end like for gaming? Mine got a 2nd keyboard due to overuse. It couldn't really hold as good of a charge as it used to but... If it's plugged in then well? If it keeps turning on and you have no issues with it then no reason to replace it. Especially if you are just using it for browsing/typing

I still have my old Toshiba laptop, running windows xp , with 512Mb ram, 40gb hdd, and it`s still working to this day, so i`d say at least 16 years ^_^

Depends how much you use it.

My laptop that I've had for 2 years is going to need an entirely new case because the hinges are completely fucked.

A major problem with quite a few modern laptops is the metal screws on the hinges are screwed into plastic supports on the case, this means they aren't particularly durable and if you open/shut your laptop a couple of times per day for a year, the hinges will already show signs of dying.

Pretty much, if you are getting a laptop, get one with a bar hinge, if not you'll be experiencing hinge problems after 1-2 years (when using it daily).
