How many pairs of shoes is considered too many shoes?

Naturally men and women have different standards of the acceptable number of shoes. Statistics have shown that an average man would own 12 pairs of shoes and an average women would own 27 pairs of shoes.

Including all types of shoes that currently exists eg. sports shoes, boots, sandals, flip flops, heels, loafers etc.,
1) How many pairs of shoes do you own?
2) How many pair of shoes do you think is too much for you/ your gender to have?

 

I have 6 pairs.

as a man you only need 5 pairs of shoes
1-2 casual shoes
1 pair of dress shoes <--for special events suit and tie event
1 pair of work shoes (can be boots dress shoes or sneaker depending on your job)
1 pair of running shoes for working out.

 

What the hell? 2 pairs is all I need

 

3 is max I think, any more and it's into collectors territory.

 

Do sandals count? If so 9 pairs. otherwise 7.
Its not really that much.
one sandal for the shower, one for other use.
one pair of: gym shoes, normal shoes, night out shoes, dress shoes, snow boots
two pairs of steel toed boots.

It’s probably way over too much, but I do wear most of them depending on the occasion. I have a couple for sports (badminton, tennis, running, hiking, normal walking shoes for when I go on trips), I have quite a few different pairs of flats and sandals in different styles and colors to coordinate with my clothes and then I have a variety of different heels and boots to go with various outfits. Different work heels, going out heels, formal occasion heels etc all in different colors and styles. The least I have would be long boots since I live in a hot country. I have a couple of different ankle boots and only 4 long boots for if I go abroad.

Too many shoes is when you have them but never use them
I'm just passerby traveller who like to farming nuffies here

 

Let's see... I have:
- 1 pair of leather "business casual" shoes for work or when it rains
- 1 pair of sneakers for causal wear
- 1 pair of low-top water proof hiking shoes for winter slush
- 1 pair of water proof hiking boots for winter snow
- 1 pair of old sneakers for backyard use, like for when I have to dig or it's raining
- 1 pair of outdoor slippers for backyard use
- 1 pair of indoor slippers
So, 7 pairs of shoes.

Disclaimer, I do have a pair of "dress" shoes (somewhere), but because I haven't used them in 10-15 years (or more), I'm not counting them.

 

I wear my retired running shoes for casual use.

I wear another pair of running shoes for runs.

I wear dress shoes for work.

I guess people would have shoes for different activites like bowling or hiking as well but why would you need more than a pair of shoes for one activity?

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot I have combat boots and slippers as well.

 

Probably a dozen or more pairs if you count slippers and sandals.

• 2 pairs slippers.
• 2 pairs sandals.
• 2 pairs work shoes.
  
• 2 pairs gym shoes.
• 4 pairs of shoes for occasion, 2 leather, 2 rubber. If it got old, used for gym or work.
• 2 pairs rubber boots at home.

 

I got 10 pairs of shoes collected over the years, but I only use 1-2 pairs daily.

 

where is this "average man" I've never met before?

I have 2 pairs of trainers and a pair of nice leather shoes for events.

Like clothes, money, and gold bullions, there's nothing such as "too many shoes" !

 

Personally, I think 2-5 pairs of shoes is enough but to each their own.

2) Why should there be a limit? Do you wear red shoes with green dress?

1 pair for formal
1 pair for army
1 pair of slippers
1 pair for sports related

 

I usually have 2 pairs for every season as well as a few pairs as an emergency backup. I used to have a lot of slippers but I keep losing one of each just as socks! Though I keep buying hiking shoes and socks like this almost every summer I got a pair or two because I call myself a seasoned hiker

 

I don't have any data on that, but uhn... What are those statistics? Because they seem reaaaaally weird to me.

Like, for my two brothers and my father, this doesn't even come close to true. Usually speaking they had...

1 Pair of shoes for basically everything.
1 Pair of shoes for formal events. (which also doubles as work shoes in case your work requires formal attire) (actually, only my father has this one, my brothers almost never went to anything formal, so they just rented formal shoes on the mega rare occasion)
1 Pair of old shoes for those days you go to a really muddy place.
1 Pair of sandals.

... And I honestly never met any man with more than this. I'm sure some exist, but I'd be very very surprised to see one with 12 pairs... It just clashes directly with my common sense I guess?
