I have a very old laptop, an Acer Extensa 5630, so I want to change my operating system from Windows 10 ( I think Win7 or vista is this laptop's original OS) to Ubuntu. The thing is, I need to enter the bios setup or boot (I honestly don't know which is which.) My bios is, apparently, legacy, not UEFI, so using the advanced option for system recovery doesn't work. Thus, I'll have to do it when I start the laptop. I start the laptop and the 'esc' button is the only one that brings a page. However, said page only appears for a few seconds then leaves qucikly, so I can't do anything with it.
It is F2 for Acer Extensa 5630 https://www.acerrepairblog.us/travelmate-5730-extensa-5630/bios-setup-utility.html
Do you want to delete Windows and just have Ubuntu? Or do you want to have a partition for Ubuntu? Either way: https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-install-ubuntu-desktop?backURL=/#0 The Ubuntu Installation tutorial is super easy to follow. My school laptop is running ubuntu but has a partition for windows for programs that require windows os.
F2 but unless your changing boot priority, to boot from your installation media, BIOS isn't gonna help a whole lot with installing a new OS.
You know you can upgrade to Windows 10 whitout going to bios... You can upgrade it by M$ site... If you have Windows 7 or 8 you can upgrade for free... Just need to go to their site... And download the program... Andit do everything by itself.
If you have a windows 10, then here are the steps: 1.Go to settings 2.Click update& security on the panel on the side 3.Click Recovery 4.Click The button that says restart now under advanced startup 5.Troubleshoot 6.Advanced Options 7.UEFI Firmware Settings You will be in BIOS after you restart. I know this because I googled how yesterday to turn on my virtualization settings. EDIT: I just saw how you said you had Legacy and Not UEFI, so I think this advice is useless... Good luck.
what exactly you want? do u want both w10 and ubuntu in one laptop or u want to switch w10 with ubuntu? if u want the second one then u need to format w10 n install ubuntu... that's how I would've done it... if you have trouble with the boot up then are a few prog that can help u with that...
if you can't figure out that by yourself, you probably are better off not trying to switch or dual boot SO's, especially in laptop
