I keep wondering if I should try publishing the novel I'm writing as a serial novel...

At what point would it be best to release a novel? Is there a specific word count or number of chapters that you would recommend having before putting it on sites like this and RRL? I have written a little bit but I am a tad anxious before actually making it public.

Also, I don't have a cover yet, which is also one of the reasons I am hesitating. I do have quite some free time every week so I believe my upload speed shouldn't be slow. My grammar is usually pretty good unless I'm tired or rushing, so I (hopefully) don't think it will need too much proofreading.

I do read (a lot) on NU, but I only recently created an account here and on RRL because I was thinking of doing all of this.

Edit: Also, is there a discord for NU? I know there's one for RRL.

    Thoughts?

It's best to have completed your novel or at the very least have enough chapters that before you finish posting them you would have finished your novel.
And please use Patreon, it is very important. Even seasoned professionals use it. I can't find the article sadly

Oh, I know you from REM. It was a cool novel, but I stopped when the chapters were split into multiple pages since my mobile web browser doesn't handle that very well. Could you elaborate about Patreon? I don't expect to earn anything, but are there other practical advantages to it besides income? I have to admit my knowledge on things like that is a bit lacking.

Simply Google how Patreon is helping self publishing authors.
Self publishing will cost you money especially if you want to be taken seriously.
Editing is a must and expensive.
It will also be time consuming.
Patreon is also a social platform

I have to admit Qidian is the best way to promote your novel even Pirate sites for Chinese novels will steal your work

Then, should I proud that it's good way to promote or should I wait of stealing?

    You should be proud
There is nothing as bad publicity
    Besides, you underestimate readers' ignorance
Many think pirate sites are translators and are shocked when my website releases chapters days before the pirate websites

I read something on the latest QI writing prompt, that they retain 90-99% publishing rights. Kinda makes you wonder, if your book was published in there can you publish it elsewhere too, ie RRL, Wattpad, Amazon.
I mean those lawsuits. Deym. Even those giant translators stumble upon this.

Well, they still want to grow their original author market. Limiting them to publishing on QI alone would impact their growth. As for contracted authors, don't most big companies do the same. Why would they let a new author have such privileges?

    This is very useful. Thanks!

I'm still working on my writing, so I figured I should learn about promoting before I actually start posting or self publishing. I heard somewhere that one of the authors started promoting his book 5 years before it was publish on Amazon, and that's why he had so many readers who bought his book when it first came out. Although I might have misheard because what I found online about that author and his book seem to different since his book just took off by word of mouth when it was first published on Amazon.

I had thought about publishing on Wattpad, but I don't think I'll do that after reading your post. Or maybe I'll do that some time later after publishing in some more friendly platforms.
