    maybe instead of rubbing, you could try patting your eye? Similar gesture, but not as harmfull

    This is actually something i used to do often as a kid,My Mother used to always tell me to substitute my hand with a soft piece of cloth as it wasn't a healthy habit.if you do indeed rub your eyes too hard or too often,you'll be causing damage in a number of ways!
