How do you teach kids about computers in a way that they find fun? I'm trying to make my little brother able to use anything apart from an iPad, but I don't know how to get him away from it long enough to teach him anything. When I was his age(7) I locked myself up in my room every day with the curtains closed and played with my 800MHz pentium computer (no internet) running ubuntu 5.10 and XP dualbooted doing Tuxtype and stuff. I just played it because there was nothing else I could do, not because I *really* loved MS Pinball.
Computers in general aren't as fun or interactive to kids that age. They aren't seamless or touch screen, so most kids don't like them. Pretty much all you can do is wait for him to get older and see how limited tablets are compared to PCs.
At 7, you should be playing outside man!! I didn't know how to use a computer till I was 11... But anyways, best way would probably be GTA. The old one..
I agree, if you force him into a computer or hint strongly, he might just get put off by it fully. kids pick up electronics and such better than we do, it's more important that they do stuff kids have done for centuries: eat well, play hard, sleep absolutely...and drive their parents nuts.
I played the Magic School Bus game series and Math workshop from the 90's. They pretty much help in school to make science fun and math easier. Which made me able to sleep in class in elementary and still get a perfect score in math. It's educational and fun game over-all~ Maybe something like that will be nice, I download last year for my nephew lol~ Educational kid game are good for kids~
I also got my first PC when i was 11 and I see no reason why a young kid would need a PC. I know some 10y/olds who can't even read properly spending all their time on phones and later their parents will complaint how the technology is ruining us even though they themselves give that technology to 3 year old kids... Wow, can this be considered a rant? I wanted to write a short reply but went too far...
Dont let him use pc, it is not better, from my view. Bring your little brother outside, whether go to zoo, play sport, or maybe normal park. Or maybe a little adventure in arcade games? Most people these days give ipad to their little child to make them occupied. But it is not a long term solution.
For some reason I'm not fond of recommending GTA for kids may be due to the kids I saw in the neighborhood? Well, I don't how good is the old one but the new one is too addicting and not a good influence. I saw a lot of kids not studying and just playing that game plus having low grades. One kid needs some tutoring from my lil sister and still having a hard time. Sorry but hearing about GTA and kids really make me concern. I remember seeing kids playing GTA when they are suppose to be at school in school really bothers me.
When i was 7 i'm catching worm and go fishing in a shallow river with my friends. Then know how to operate phone (old one) and only know how to operate pc when i got 15... And thats only limited to power on/off and drawing random shit in ms paint...
Secretly tell your little brother there is porn in your hidden files, i'm sure he will get motivated and he will learn very fast
when a kid from 1990's see a computer they will think "future technology!" but when a kid from 2005 and beyond sees a computer. . . they will see "work" and "calculator" ps: follow the advice of the guy above me. . .he got it right. . .
Mine craft or other flavor of the month online game with simple game play and deep strategy. Esports are also a good way if you can control what they watch, and if all else fails introduce him to a hobby with a online component.
Well... I have seen some children get interested in apps or programs that allow them to make their own games... Using some very rudimentary stylized programming objects... You could try those... Although some just don't like computers except for what they do... But, what I have found that always seems to work is when something they are using breaks... Like that Ipad or whatever laptop... It becomes a very strong motivator in them learning how to get the fricken thing to work again...
