If you read enough of these stories, and check NU enough, even if you don't read that particular story, you'll almost certainly know the titles enough that the acronyms make sense. If you have to ask, you have to ask, its like any new task or new thing. Everyone starts out as a newb asking questions repeatedly. It comes with time and repetition. Any game/story/repeatable experience that has a group will eventually have jargon. I've never played WoW except for like a 14 day trial when it first came out. If I tried to pick it up now I'd be so lost trying to follow along with anyone who had been playing WoW for more than a year. Or League or DOTA or whatever.

Well, If you got recommended on a mainstream novel(BTTH(Battle Through The Heavens), HJC(Heavenly Jewel Change), and some others), apparently, Tony or NU staffs made some leeway on some of this and included the novel's Associated Names/Alternate Names seen in novel's page in NU's search engine, which is good:blobphone:. Still, it's not all of it, including to those new novels out there. I'd really hope those people who recommended acronyms included on what their acronyms meant.

It looks like either know these novel immediately before they were read, else you'd like a noob in the community, which I found it absurd and disgusting horrible to be implied and looked at.:blobunamused:

Lol. I assume that this is a response to the post that went up a little while ago asking for help finding a chapter, but just said TKA and never have the name of the novel? Interestingly enough, I was able to just put the acronym in the NU search bar and it suggested The King's Avatar.

Generally, I try to name the whole title of whatever novel or thing I am talking about the first time I reference it in a discussion, and thereafter use the appropriate acronym. I think it is only polite, as one should never assume that everyone is a veteran on the Novel Updates Forum. (NUF)

Jp novels usually use the ones the Japanese fan base gives them. Ex: Oregairu (ore no seishun love come ga machigatte iru)

There are exceptions too; in the novels for the 'Ma series' all volumes have different titles, but in all of them have a 'Ma' character within a circle (ma for demon, but written in katakana) so the Japanese people call them the MaruMa series ( = CircleMa), but the Westerns call it the KKM series after the name of it's anime adaptation, Kyou Kara Maou.

Baka to tesuto to shoukanjuu is baka-tesuto.

But you are right, most of the novels we gave acronyms to in this community are ch/k, perhaps because most of us weebs here are more familiar with Japanese terms and take them in more easily if the title is in Japanese. But if you throw a Chinese title at me I'm more likely to forget it.

I wonder why no one is mentioning that it’s against the rules of the “I’m Looking For...” subforum to use acronyms in the first place... If you see that happen, just report it? :blobpoliceangry:

Anyway, because we know people are fundamentally incapable of following (or reading) the rules, any unique-ish acronyms or common shorthand used in that subforum should be recognized and automatically linked to a relevant Novel Updates page... If it isn’t, lemme know!

EDIT: Why, when I look again, are there so many posts mentioning the rule against acronyms? Did you all ninja edit posts to confuse me, or am I just blind????

Hmm...not everyone reads popular novels as popularity is not necessarily interesting. i.e. acronyms are annoying because it doesn't tell me anything about the novel...not even where to look for more info. I don't think it does the translators any good either, if they want people to read their stuff more.
