Do you consider https:// important:

  1. Who cares, I just use the site for reading...

  2. Clear text? Where's my tin foil hat, the CIA is coming.

Pet peeve/minor rant: (Possibly bug rather than Feature Request)

I have noticed that all novel updates pages are served via normal http, as opposed to https. This means that any inofrmation submitted on a page (especially passwords) are sent in clear text, for anyone capable of listening to the connection. In order to access a https login page, the address needs to be manually redirected to the https:// alternative, at which point you are presented with an incomplete page supplying the bare minimum to login in.

I am not requesting for the entire site to be served over https, though that would be preferred, but at least all login pages. This does not require a lot to change as the existing pages can be used and only be served over https. As for a certificate, I see no problem with using the one currently in use, but if an issue arises, getting a free one from a service such as Let's Encrypt is easily done.

[Poll added as a small indication of user concern.]

I can think of at least 3 threads from the top of my head that already requested that.

I recommend searching around for a bit before making a new suggestion.

Edit: OP of the last 3 threads on the matter added as per the request of the thread's creator.

I did do a search before creating the thread, but it seems I used the wrong keywords, as I got no results. Can you please link to them? Then we can close this thread.

I would, but my phone is terrible, so I can't do it.

Just search for https and tick the box "search titles only" you'll find the 3 of them.

To be fair, this needs like 10 threads. It is pretty much 99% there, a minor change that should take no more than a few minutes would be more than enough.

An easy way to configure this is to adjust your cloudflare settings; they have a configuration setting called Automatic HTTPS Rewrites that automatically rewrites http:// urls to https://. This features has been available for a full year now. This is FREE. That means you don't have to pay for it. Since you're already using Cloudflare[0], please turn this on.

In the meantime, chrome will soon (already has?) start displaying 'not secure' in login forms that don't use ssl, and has already started showing 'Not Secure' in the address bar on all http websites.[1]

[0] Quite obvious. Look it up on netcraft (or any other website that checks the netblock owner), or just load the https site and check the certificate.
[1] Google is your friend. 'Chrome insecure warnings'.

PS: I'd post images but I can't. I also can't post links. Please fix your forum so it tells me that when I hit the Preview button that I need 5 posts to create links, instead of waiting for me to actually hit post. The images showed up just fine in the preview...
