I like Emel. It's just that the webtoon made Estelle look like a 5year old while Emel 20, but their age gap is really not that high. I had to look for spoilers to confirm because the characters kept on dropping hints about the ML, like: "You must like Emel my Lady , or You really like Emel, don't you my lady" while showing secret smiles...
I have a question regarding royal ranking At the end, since Anne married Carl, that means she's now the wife of the duke (duchess) and Estelle married Emel, who's a marquis, so Estelle is the daughter of the former duke but now a marquess. Would that make the Anne of higher rank than Estelle even though Estelle has noble blood but Anne does not?
Well... yes, but actually no. Estelle still has power in the family, she is only daughter and her father and brother love her very much, so Estella has ,,higher,, position. But if you’re asking about rank in society, then again- yes, but actually no. In Abandoned Empress, Monique family has rank of marquis, but was in higher position than duke Jenna. Tia and her father could great emperor before duke Jenna or met someone from royal family without queue. I don’t know if in this novel policy mechanism is the same, but looking at how Estelle mocked princess, I think it’s really similar. Spoiler: About blood Tia was half-noble blood and she still has power, not even mentioning Jeun, who was not noble or commoner blood, and still was candidate to become empress, so origins aren’t really important, especially in novels PS sorry for mistakes, English is not my original language

I don't think emel love her like he love her now when she was kid. I still don't know the end of the this novel. But what i got from the manhua then the novel , emel didn't had a normal family background. Even his friend at wolf knew him as a cold person. But then estelle choose him to became her escort and because of her personality,her sad background,emel really want to protect her. Why i think emel not love her the same way the way he love her now,there was explained a lot actually tho maybe didnt to explisit. But like during the the dragon expedition when he sat side by side with ellen and ellen wanted to talked about estelle,emel replied he will always escort n protect her no matter what, even tho she is married with someone. I think at the time emel didn't realize the hidden meaning in ellen question. Then when they were entered the dragon illusion, estelle in emel illusion still the little estelle, different with ain image of estelle .Thats why the dragon send him to the real estelle, cuz even the dragon questioned the estelle image in emel illusion. And i think the other clue from the author was estelle finally chose to became the person in her real age. Not only the way she dress but also her attitude and the way she act. That is why when emel was back from the mission he was surprised by this and realize when he met estelle when he was sent by the dragon is the real estelle. And that time he realize a change in his feeling. Well you still can assume that emel love her since the beggining,but i think this novel/manhua showed us a change in love between 2 person. Thats why emel felt mix feeling knowed his feeling toward estelle is change. I dunno if the author gave more details about emel childhood or else, but as far as the manhua or the novel i read,there was something big happened in his family,,that is why he left,that is why he dropped everything about his background, and why he was cold and mean in a battlefield even at knight practise. I mean even his own mother plotted againts him and had a heart to stabbed her own son. And i think estelle is the first person who make him feel like human again. Even if that time he loves estelle,the kind of loves he has is change. And there was a scene when he was confused about that change, and blame him self to had that kind of feeling towards estelle. But then again is back to your point of view. In my point of view this is what got from the story plot.

I normally take sides for the fem mc buuuut Im surprised at amount of flake Emel gets for his decisions when they are perfectly logical in the world they live in. Its not modern day world , its medival times where you can simply die at any time. Emel first left when he was going to fight for heir position at his family that had OUTCAST-ED him. It was an uphill battle from start and he was right in thinking that He had high chance of dying there to never return. Have we seriously not read enough succession fights in these nobility mangas? So he should have gone to estelle like, Yooooo estelle how u doing? Just wanted to let you know that Im gonna fight my family and their vasalls alone to inherit marquis title just so I have status to propose you, O and Im gonna get abused daily and likely dying there so just chill and relax next few years alright. Sasuga, Estelle would live her life so relaxed that way, totally not in constant despair , mind broken blaming herself for emel misery all those years and if he actually died, have a never ending trauma of he died because of her. Instead emel did what a reasonable man would and ended before it escalated so she wouldn't despair , even if it gets him hated for life. Second instance - Emel saw a crazed estelle ready to go to any step to remove the pledge to save her father and brother from imperial curse and knew IRIS/Empress/Riddle were all aiming for her life. He knew she would most definitely die, if she attempted to unearth the pledge by herself. So he for the SECOND time, put his life on line for estelle without second thoughts that it could make her truly hate him for life and he would never get chance to be with again. Yet he took the step because for him, Estelle life was much more worth than him getting estelle love. And he still gets hate for that? Geez. What do you want from the guy, This is realistic setting, You simply can't overthrow imperial family especially when pledge could even affect estelle by chance, Did anyone think he enjoyed kissing and hugging Iris? The one who put his beloved in such despair and acted against her life? He tolerated the mental abuse and the physical abuse Iris did just so estelle wouldnt die. Give the man a break, this wasn't a happy go lucky story. It was a survival story with race against time, and you take desperate measures and steps in these stories just to survive. if Estelle sacrificed for emel, Emel did sacrifice much more - He lived with the feeling of Guilt, being haten, physically and mentally abused all those years to serve the casteliios and dont let them be harmed. and what age gap? Estelle fell for Emel as an adult and so did emel, emel didnt fantasized about her 11 yr old self. They fell in love both as adults. and Carl x Estelle is just disgusting, ew. Let siblings have some brother-sister feelings without shoving incest in it. Happy to see Emel and Estelle gets together, because its rare for so much sacrificing ML, most of times its FL who has to sacrifice everything for ML.

You need to read last 4-5 pages for spoilers but TLDR : Emel to locate the pledge binding castillos agrees to sell himself to Iris as her fiance. Iris knows he came here for ulterior motives so she physically abuses him nonstop in private and emel has to tolerate it. And when she is in public and in parties where estelle would be, she clings to him hugging him nonstop and kissing him.
