    Same.

Finding out that they're connected from the past world seems a bit far-fetched.

This series is more like the darkside of isekai, and from a woman's perspective. Or rather a story about a girl trying to do her best to survive in a system against her, but luckily she met a guy which the system also doesn't like.

Yeah probably why I keep going back to it.
It really is a different take on Isekai

In all honesty, the plot is the second reason. :blobwoah:

The main reason I keep going back to the manga and novel (mostly cuz dat art) is because of Clifford. :aww:

I've read a lot of manga, manhwa and manhua and the MLs are usually trash with horrible personalities stemmed from parental issues which give them an excuse to hurt ppl, particularly the FLs, yet are forgiven because they're hot :blobangery::blobangery:. The old cliches of the rich alpha have become so annoying for me (God bless these spoiler threads and the ppl summarizing the comics, so that I can avoid wasting my time on it). But Clifford is a first for me (there are other MLs like him too, but Clifford is my number one. Anakin from Kill the Villainess would be somewhat closer to him, since he's a commoner knight too who's strong enough).

For me, Clifford breaks the ML cliches. :cookie:

Don't get me wrong. He is hot :blob_blush: . That face, those sharp eyes, the muscles (I'm just gonna say it, his neck and chest :blobowoevil_horns:, I'm not ashamed to admit it!). He has so much sex appeal :blobnosebleed:. His facial expressions, even if he has mostly an indifferent expression, but his smile is so beautiful!!!! :aww: He's drawn so well. Like really well, both in the manga and novel's illustrations.

I keep re-reading just to look at his face and read his lines. I fangirl so hard. I know that sounds weird lol :blobpeek:, but you'll understand why I like his face.

It's because of his personality. :bloblove:

What really, really, really got me hooked was his personality :blobmelt:. Yes, he does have a sad past, but he doesn't take it out on anyone or takes anyone for granted. He is also a commoner. I have to emphasize this, because crown princes, princes, kings, emperors, duke, viscounts, CEOs have become such a turn-off for me, mostly because of their horrible personalities  . There is a power imbalance between the ML and the poor FL in these stories, even if the FL is an heiress to some corporation or family because the ML is more OP in these stories. Of course, there are commoner MLs who start from the bottom and get a title, but they still have the title by the time they meet the FL. That, or they have inferiority complexes and treat the FL, who is their wife, like crap because she's from a powerful family :blobcurse: . Like, bruh.

Clifford may be adopted into a count family, but he's still humble and polite. He isn't portrayed as rich. Though he has physical strength, he has no social power as far as I can see. He has no title of his own either, and idk if he's appointed as the heir of the Alderton Countdom, since he has three foster sisters and I'm not sure if women can hold a title since there is Rosa Redington. Clifford is a commoner, and in a completely subservient position to Octavia. He doesn't use his connections without her knowledge to bring her enemies down, only his strength and as long as Octavia says so (I also think he's a good conversation partner for Octavia. He may not talk much, but I love his talks with Octavia :bloblove:). And he doesn't have any complexes blobmelt_thumbs. And the only misunderstanding is that Octavia thinks he's gay lol, and he still doesn't know that Octavia chose him randomly as her knight (tho, his side wouldn't be a misunderstanding, since he still doesn't know why she chose him, but I can only expect his reaction when he finds out it was a random selection lol :blobxd:). That's why I'm ready to fight any 2nd ML :blobspearpeek: . Clifford is the only ML we need.

And I just have to add. Apart from his good looks and good personality, I've noticed that his mannerisms are really, really good :aww:. The first thing I like about his manners was the way he was sitting in the carriage. He was sitting so properly, it was realy nice to see that :aww:. Granted, it's because he's a knight so he's not in a position to have bad manners, but still. I've seen a lot of comics where the ML is sitting with legs spread, and that can be fine if done right and NOT OVERUSED. For example, one of the things that I really, really hate that is overdone, ESPECIALLY IN A LOT AND I DO MEAN A LOOOOTT OF CHINESE MANHUAS, is the hands in the pockets pose . It is so overused and in inappropriate settings. Like I remember in one scene where the ML and FL in some chinese manhua were going to some ball/party, and the FL was holding the ML's arm, while the ML had his hand in his pocket. There was also one where they were just walking and holding hands, but the ML's other hand is in his pocket. Of course, this type of body language is supposed to represent the ML's arrogance. I used to like the hands-in-pockets pose, but not anymore because it's overdone and represents arrogant MLs which is a turn-off. It's just like those scenes where the ML just randomly picks up the FL in his arms, like why?????? :blobpopcorn_two: Clifford, of course, does pick her up in his arms twice, but that was because she didn't want to walk along the bloody floor and the tunnel when going back was slippery. Plus, it's used sparingly. The romance is subtle. You can potentially feel it, but you can't see it by the obvious signs of romance like blushing (Octavia does blush because she knows he's handsome and him kissing her hand is like one of those fantasies girls her age often have). So, if Clifford ever puts his hand in his pocket in the future, it's because it was used sparingly.

Even if Clifford was hot, if his personality was shit or cliched, I would've abandoned his story a long time ago, even if the story was good. I'd just half-heartedly check the spoilers if someone else posted it. If not, I would've went on with my day. But because no one was posting on this thread, I made an account to post the spoilers so that people can see there is an amazing ML who doesn't follow the cliches, or rather the really abusive cliches. Clifford is like my comfort food after I read manhwa, particularly with the guys who turn out to be either abusive, cowardly, or involved in misunderstandings . Sigh.

Because of Clifford alone, I stuck to this story :aww: . This is the only comic I keep on re-reading almost religiously because this manga deserves some love. If you've noticed, most of my analyses are on Clifford, about why he's such a great ML and perfect for Octavia. Because he's none of the things above. He deserves more love and attention :blobpats: .

Aaaaaaand I went on a long (and thirsty) discussion about Clifford. Again. And a rant about annoying MLs in other stories. Again. I'm sorry (notsorry). But in my defense, Clifford is the standard. :blobpeek:

Okay, so how do I explain this?

So the original novel is "leisurely" updated (this is the author's own words). Vol 4 of the novel was just fairly recently finished this year, so I have no idea how long it will take them to get started on vol. 5. I pray every day that we get a new chapter soon. I guess you can say they are on hiatus, but they're pretty inactive on Twitter last time I checked and are kind of obscured, so I can't really say.

The manga, however, is active. The latest chapter (well part of a chapter) was just released on Friday, and the manga artist will reveal another one on the 30th of this month. They tend to update two chapters (parts) in a close interval, and then take relatively a month to update another one-two parts. This is because they're working on another manga simultaneously. So the manga isn't on a hiatus. They're currently on vol 5 of the novel (also the manga is much behind the novel since it's based on the novel (with slight alterations), so vol 5 of the manga doesn't mean that the manga series is further ahead.)

    Hope that answers your question.

You can best read the English translated manga on mangadex (https://mangadex.org/title/cb945ce8...tunistic-princess-in-charge-of-solving-things). The first two volumes of the manga including its bonus stories have already been completely uploaded, along with the first two chapters of the third volume of the manga.

For reading the raws online, you can find many sites, though some exclude one part of a chapter, exclude bonus chapters in general or include the ongoing vol 5 but not all the chapters, particularly the first two chapters for vol 5.
So if you want to read it online, you can try (just click on the link and it'll take you to the manga)
Manga1001.vip --> some chapters are missing
Manga1001.xyz --> I apologize for the ads, but you can close some of them
Rawfree --> includes vol 5 but not the first two chapters
Rawdevart --> does not have 16.4

Fret not. I will bestow my mercy upon thee by sharing the watago fanfiction all-in-japanese (Trust me. It's pretty good to curb the Vitamin C (Clifford) deficiency). And if you (we) are lucky you (we) will be seeing a fancomic of this series this year.

But that... 4p... damn you kadokawa....

So, I'm translating the novel, and there are a lot of tidbits, which I've decided to share. I have to say, while the series' synopsis isn't impactful (tbh, I read the story because Clifford looked so hot on the cover), the story content itself is pretty good in the world-building aspect.

    Anyways:

So, the title "I Am a Princess Responsible For Settling Circumstances" actually refers to the original Octavia from the "King of Nobility" novel that our Octavia/Maki got stuck in. The original Octavia was simply there to solve the succession issue since Prince Douchebag can't have a kid with his boyfriend, Sill. and he doesn't want to get a wife. The original Octavia was supposed to birth a kid for them. In other words, the original Octavia was supposed to be the "Princess Responsible For Settling Circumstances". But, of course, our Octavia isn't having it. So the title just simply means that our Octavia/Maki became Princess Octavia who was to supposed the succession issue.

Because Octavia isn't doing that, and actually says that she's pretty sarcastic with Prince Douche. The bad blood leads to Octavia not being close to Sill, unlike the original Octavia.

It's been confirmed at the very beginning of the novel that Octavia wasn't intentionally close with Prince Douche, the King and his malewife. She's only close with her younger brother, Alexis aka Alec.

Actually, Alec is different either treated indifferently or with formal politeness. Since he's the king's kid from a woman, the atmosphere around him is cold but he isn't treated coldly. The male Queen, Edgar, according to Octavia at least, sees Alec as the child of the man he loves so he doesn't bully Alec but his politeness is formal. (Notice how, so far, apart from Octavia and the king, he hasn't had interactions with anyone else in his family and his thoughts only revolve around his sister.)

Guy states that Prince Douche doesn't discriminate against aristocrats and commoners and neither does Alexis, but to Guy at least, it's more like Alexis is aloof to commoners. Like he doesn't necessarily hate them, but nor does he like them, potentially stemmed from his dreams of King Ur whose sister Idearia, the former Queen, was killed by the common folk. He even found it a shame that one of his subordinates was a commoner. Alexis' preference when choosing his subordinates are as long as they're not in love with him.

Also, I've seen some Western commentators say that she should just go lesbian. And, actually, Octavia thought of doing that lol. But she realized that she isn't a lesbian so that's why she'd rather be in a political marriage :blobrofl:. Because at least she'd get a man that's impossible in her gay kingdom. She's just pissed that her brother Douchbag isn't fulfilling his obligations. And she makes sense. As I'm translating the novel, everyone goes around like yeah the first is excellent, perfect, superhuman and sugoi. But, like, I have not seen him do anything amazing. He flipped the castle when his boyfriend secretly went to a ball and his carriage was sabotaged, but your sister was the one who literally had to bleed to stop your boyfriend from trying to hurt her, the only princess, yet he put the wrong guy, aka my Cliffy, in prison for an accusation that he's got no prowhereas loverboy walks around freely. :blobangery: That's the beauty of being a first prince. Abusing your authority. Where's the excellence!?

This is where it gets dark. So Octavia is supposed to birth two kids for the royal family; a boy and a girl, who are then supposed to continue this fucked up tradition. She would be allowed to raise her third child.

About the biological mom of each sibling, Douche's mom died during childbirth, Octavia's mom is alive and she sometimes visits her so she doesn't need the malewife's love. And Alec's mom is under house arrest, giving up all her maternal rights, so he can never meet her. Hence why he's close to Octavia, because she's literally the only one who's ever shown him kindness that isn't formal. They act like real siblings.

Octavia says that male homosexuality is prevalent among the upper class and not so much among commoners. Guy, a commoner soldier, confirms that, from his village, male homosexuality was a minority, but in the royal castle, heterosexuals are in the minority. Octavia hates that because she's surrounded by nothing but upper classes, so she's surrounded by man x man. It makes me think that maybe she would've taken Clifford, a commoner who got adopted into an Earl's family, into consideration as a potential (fake) lover, had it not been for all her past escort knights resigning their jobs after meeting a male lover. Actually, homosexuality among the upper class isn't new, at least in a historical sense. You can easily find historical rulers having male lovers. Makes you wonder why (I mean, I have a few assumptions but that's for another class (maybe i dunno) :blobsmilehappyeyes:). Interestingly, regarding male homosexuality among Esphia's own rulers, Octavia states: "Are the nobles imitating the example of the royal family of Esfia?" It's a food for thought.

Also, about Clifford's title "Ongarne", which I've been calling. His actual title is "Ongarne's messenger". The Saza religion which had a war against Esphia; their leader was killed by him. In the Saza religion, Ongarne is hell. Actually, the name "Ongarne" refers to three places. According to Guy, apart from being synonymous to hell, there's a fictional place which is the most painful place in hell, and certain land is also called "Ongarne" to mock the Saza religion because of their scandal. So, calling Clifford "Ongarne's messenger" is because he's inviting his enemies to Ongarne, aka hell, by killing them.

Guy says that the war between Saza religion and Esphia turned to Esphia's favor because their leader, Nathaniel was killed and there was an unprecedented scandal. I have no idea what this "scandal" is. So far we only have dregs of info on the Saza religion.

And for some reason, that even Guy finds strange, the kingdom is looking to punish the guy who killed Nathaniel (aka Clifford). Though, it's also understandable since Clifford apparently killed soldiers from Esphia too. Interestingly, Guy says "supposed killer", although he knows Clifford was on the battlefield during the war. All the other characters are saying that he killed Nathanial, but I need to now know from Clifford's perspective!!!!

Now here's another sad part for the commoners. I actually felt angry when I read this, although I get that it's an alternative history and commoners were treated like shit. But to hear it from an actual commoner, and so casually, is just horrifyingly sad. From Guy's perspective, commoners have a difficult road ahead if they want to work in the royal castle. people who don't have "Connections, money, or ability" need to gain some sort of achievement on the battlefield before becoming a regular soldier. In his own words, "most commoners are treated as discarded pawns and die". So if they survive, it'll be seen as an achievement. Guy and his colleague, another commoner, "have no choice but to succeed here", because if Guy returned to his village unemployed, then he'd be eliminated from the village hierarchy. Instead, it's better if a commoner dies on the battlefield as a form of solatium and the village will build a fine grave in their honor. So it's better to work in the castle than go back to his village. Even if Guy, as a commoner, continues working in the castle, though, if he doesn't have a certain amount of rank, the salary will be constrictive. So even if he gets married, he can't support his wife or even buy a single house in the royal capital. So, in his own words, he'll be living in a dormitory forever. It's horrible. What happened to Douche, aka the excellent first prince, aka the next king, not discriminating against the aristocrats and the common folk? Someone, please just start a rebellion.

Right now, as a process, Guy and his colleague are apprentices working under Alexis, and they're about to graduate from that. So the way to success is to choose a faction of the prince you want to serve or be recognized for; either Douche's or Alexis'. Douche's faction was huge compared to Alexis' with both aristocrats and commoners with excellent abilities. But the issue is Douche's faction is really huge and the two of them have average abilities, so they can't really succeed in his faction and or even be able to talk to him. They decide to go with Alexis. But the problem with that is that Alexis is single. The two of them have to suffer from harassment and jealousy from Alexis' admirers. Because Douche has a boyfriend, they wouldn't need to fear that. Octavia doesn't have a faction because she's a woman so she can't go into the battlefield.

    OKAYYYYYY.

Chapter 1 of vol 5 of the novel just updated!!! It's chapter 73 on ncode. Do you know what this means!? Vol 5 of the novel in the (leisure) making!!!! More Clifford!!!

But unfortunately, this chapter didn't have Clifford. Boo.

It's basically about the details of the inspection to clear Cliffford's false charges. It's an inspection of the royal capital (I thought it was going to be at a ball, for some reason heh heh). So they need to inspect the clothes, food, and housing of the capital.

For clothes, she's gonna buy from a good store. Usually, the royal family has a tailor. (Will Clifford compliment her dress again like last time? :aww:)

For food, it was difficult for Octavia to put this in the inspection because she'll be eating from a normal restaurant, since her food has a pre-selected chef, carefully selected ingredients and its delivery is in a way that something doesn't go wrong with the food. Actually, she wanted to try B-grade gourmet because the royal castle only has A-grade food, and sometimes homegirl wants steak and sometimes takoyaki (the more I carefully read, the more of how relatable she is to me). I also Prince Douche and his boyfriend because they get to eat around while incognito. I hope there's a food date with her and Clifford in the upcoming chapters.:aww: (Ah~~~~ I can just imagine it~~~~ The street food date:blobnosebleed: Octavia notices something maybe takoyaki and she's split from the group with just Clifford. :blobmelt: Then she noticed something like takoyaki and happily eats but also stuffs one in Clifford's mouth and, and, and maybe Clifford recommends something too~~~~ A quick but sweet hidden date~~~~~~~~~~:blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed:)

For housing, she wanted to stay overnight at a private place and interact with the families of the citizens, but that was completely declined.

So she compromised to just walk around an area where the Carlam trees were because it's the season. Remember, Carlam trees are very similar to the Japanese sakura cherry blossom tree, just the name is different. She avoids it because it makes her cry because of the memories of her past life. So she tries imagining it as a test and thinks that she'll be fine. Probably.

Btw, she's actually writing all this down on a handmade memo pad. Esfia doesn't have a memo pad so she got one made. She commissioned one from the store where she got her infamous black fan from, and after learning about stigma lev birds, she felt bad for the store but also liked their product (the black fan).

So in the memo pad, she's writing it down in Japanese so that no one but her can read it in case it ever got lost or stolen.

So her brother douche asked about the memo pad and she offered for him to have a look. He looked surprised and asked if it was okay and she said yeah. He saw the Japanese words and frowned. He's seen the letters before in her room when he picked up her diary that was written in complete Japanese (and apparently in front of her so he didn't do it in secret because that would've been one hell of a dick move).

And then she asked about the concept of the inspection, and then there's kind of a weird CLIFFhanger (heh heh Clifford pun) where it ends as a mystery. I can only know after the next chapter.

I can't tell if that's sarcasm, but pretty much yeah. It's going down an angst route (though, imo, the novel is a bit more darker than the manga) and the comedy is just the misunderstandings or Octavia's internal panicking.

My issue. This is supposed to be a romantic comedy. I love the subtle romance, but I need more! And I can't have more when my baby Cliffy has a false charge on his head!

This is not sarcasm by any means. I always have had this biased view on Japanese manga and novel that, they have their own form of exaggerated comedy and that's why when I start reading one, my expectations don't stray far from it. But, this manga(novel) is a pleasant breeze to my stupid biases. So, I am enjoying this and anticipating more plot from the story. isekai genre is becoming very stale and the uniqueness is evaporating. And, I love me some drama so I am liking where the story is going.

So three chapters have been uploaded already but I was too busy to update the spoiler.

With chapter 74, I finally understand the mystery of the cliffhanger in the previous chapter. In the previous chapter, Octavia was surprised when her brother, Celius, looked at her memo pad and talked about the inspection's concept (being clothes, food, and housing experience). She was surprised because that was written in Japanese. There's also that Prince Douche thought she was writing something else and apologized, and she was like, what else did you think I was writing!? Anyways, she asks if he can read but he denies it. The reason he can read it is because, when they were young, Octavia made a "Esfia" and "Japanese" language correspondence table and he had a peek at that. The letters used in that table were similar to the words in her memo, so that's why he could make out the words.

Octavia then apologizes and he asks why and says she just is. Apparently, she wonders why because there's no point in apologizing to someone who forgot the pst. Ig, and this is my opinion, but she meant to apologize for being salty to him while he was warm to her when they were young.

Then Douche says that he wouldn't be able to read those words a few days ago but was triggered when he saw the letters in her room. He acknowledges that there are some discrepancies in his memories that were pointed out by Derek (FINALLY!!!). He initially thought that that was impossible and mind was playing tricks on him but then he wonders why he's abnormally trying to conclude that it's just his imagination. He says that his memory discrepancies seem to be related to Octavia and he's also worried that his memory discrepancies might disrupt the inspection. He didn't want to say but after looking at the Japanese letters on the memo pad, he changed his mind. Octavia wondered if it was the influence of the original memory and feels like it's more easier to talk to him now.

Octavia then asks why has this happened. He thinks about it and suggests that it has to be a person who can get close to me and he's not usually very wary of them (Alright place your bets. I'm going with window Sill for now). Octavia wonders too, and then asks if he felt any discomfort to which he didn't. She found it strange that so much changed in the last few days, when Derek intervened. So she wonders if Derek was the trigger especially since he's a character who doesn’t appear in the original BL story that Octavia's stuck in.

Then she remembers the jerk god, but jerk god said that he won't intervene with people's romantic feelings because it's hard to manipulate their people's hearts. She has doubts basically and then wonders if it's Rust's doing because he looks like the jerk god. But then she wonders how would he even get near her brother since 1) Rust is an anti-royalist and 2) he's the antagonist of the original BL story.

She writes on her memo pad to be on alert of his memory loss, but feels like it won't be a problem for today's inspection, carriage crosses the bridge and then she confirms with her brother that they both have a different purpose for today's inspection. She says that they're both decoys but originally it's only her because she's weak with no combat ability while her brother can fight, so logically the crooks will go after her. So she wants to do her best as a decoy and asks if the security system was perfect and he immediately said yes, as she expected. Her last line for the chapter is
"Then, no matter what happens, older brother will protect me to the end, right?"

I'll just spoil it here but this line, as revealed in later chapters, is basically her roundabout way of saying "You'll let me do what I want and protect me because of that, right?"

In chapter 75, they finally arrived at their destination. Her older brother exits first and greets the people, while Octavia’s still inside the carriage. She looks around the capital square to find the stalls she was looking for, and, when she found them, she instinctively tried to call for Clifford. But Clifford isn’t her guard atm (tho, he did clearly mention that if there’s any danger, he’ll prioritize Octavia over Prince Douche. Gotta love a loyal man~~).

Clifford was on a horse, and she thought that had he looked at her. Super cute. :aww::blobmelt:

So instead, she beckoned over Hugh-pain-in-the-ass and gave him some instructions (because she had a plan). He hesitated but Octavia said her brother gave her permission. So, he hesitantly did what she said. She saw him go and talk to Guy and Eliel (Rust’s younger brother and the guy who tried to attack Octavia as an “accident” out of jealousy because of his love for Alexis). Guy freaks out but Eliel covers his mouth and tells him not to make a fuss idiot. Octavia thinks that they get along way.

Finally, Douche calls her and escorts her out of the carriage. They stood on a stone stage with an applauding crowd. They both had their royal smiles on.

So, originally, a pre-selected person was supposed to come on the stage and hand me a bouquet of flowers. Octavia doesn’t know who it will be but they have to a citizen of the royal capital, and have a solid identity and background, as a security measure. But Octavia had other plans, as explained later.

She reminds her brother to remember their promise in the carriage and walked forwards before he could even reply. She addresses the crowd and unfolds her black fan (remember, the fan is supposed to ease her anxiety). When she did that people began to murmur, because her fan is made from Lev bird feathers, and the birds are considered as birds of misfortune. She eventually found a little girl who called her, and the little girl was riding on the shoulders of her dad and fan made from Lev bird feathers. Octavia liked the inspection because of these kinds of things. Aw. :cookie:

She then tells the crowd that it’s the first time that she’s visiting the castle town with her older brother, so she has something prepared for the beginning of the inspection that everyone can participate in. She decided this because the flower festival in the royal capital was canceled because there was a period of mourning due to Esfia’s war with the Saza religion. So, she wanted the people to have a good mood and they had nothing to do with the crooks. She told the crowd to wait for a while. She had told Hugh to give her a clear signal when he’s ready, and she saw Guy make a big circle with his hands above his head, meaning it’s ready. She then tells the crowd that they will give out flowers from the sky to everyone gathered in the square. She further explains that among them is only one red flower with a decorative string and if anyone manages to find it, they can come before Octavia, no matter who it is. The flower also had a string attached to it (which is a ribbon but in Esfia's term, it's a decorative string).

Four stepladders were set up around the square and four soldiers who were guarding climbed up with flower baskets. At Octavia’s command, they throw the flowers. Her brother harshly calls her from behind.
