Thank you so much for the summaries!!! Ahhh this story is so good. I love how ML behaves like a real emperor, and that there is an appropriate dark streak to him. FL and ML are both excellent!!!

Apologies if this was answered before but does Valor gets appropriately punished in this story for being a major jerk? I don’t mean death just have him humiliated a little.

    • It’s revealed that Solen had secretly siphoned off the extra income of the Gauren mine and kidnapped a nobleman’s son. He was sentenced to death in Vinfried for embezzlement and kidnapping charges. Arendt also has irrefutable evidence of the Thierry envoy’s corruption and presented the information to Bertrand who, once apprised of the situation, immediately sent an apology. In Bertrand’s letter, he asked Arendt not to kill Solen but to give him life imprisonment. He threatens that if Thierry’s meritous retainer falls into Vinfried’s hands like this, Thierry won’t stand still. And, regarding the matter of those from the envoy who participated in corruption, they will be brought back to Thierry and held accountable so please do not suspend the state marriage. Moreover, he sent Arendt some gifts as an apology. He even included gifts of land and mines. It was as though Bertrand was kowtowing to Arendt in embarrassment.
    • Arendt replied to Bertrand informing him that he’ll keep all their alliance agreements including the national marriage but let them drop the joint mining of Gauren mine and adjust the burden of opening the mountain range. Vinfried offers to pay 20% of the cost for the mountain range project. Arendt also informs Bertrand that he will send a delegation regarding the mountain range project. Since Isolde and Renier found the secret letter in Solen’s room where Bertrand orders Valer to use Niveia to persuade Arendt to stand with him against Aspodel, Arendt also reveals this in his correspondence to Bertrand and tells him that he’s sorry that he can’t trust him (Arendt) even though they have an alliance through marriage. He tells him that he hopes that he doesn’t contact anyone, who has already become a citizen of another country, in private again. Arendt writes that he’s going to pretend Bertrand’s secret request didn’t happen.
    • It’s noted that this is the first time Arendt, who always pretends to be nice, came out so tough. Various newspapers were excited about the incident and said that Joachim XII pulled out a knife. Even so, it was interesting to hear that the person who caused a stir in the entire continent a few months ago due to a scandal with the empress from Thierry pulled a knife at her motherland this time. Therefore, Arendt’s popularity with the public peaked due to his handling of the Thierry matter. There was also that antipathy that the citizens of Vinfried held for Thierry.
    • Currently, Arendt approaches Niveia who is sitting on a couch in his office. They talk about his painted portrait in the newspaper. Niveia compares the portrait to Arendt’s real face. She feels that her heart beats strangely whenever she sees his face up close. The two begin to flirt a little. Arendt hugs Niveia’s waist and fiddles with her long hair. Arendt says he won’t have a headache anymore since Bertrand won’t be able to get closer, her father won’t either and now he can kick his mother out of politics because of the letter she wrote to Bertrand but was never delivered due to Solen’s arrest.
    • Arendt thinks everything is going his way. There is nothing more to hinder his honeymoon and his beloved wife trusts him more than anyone else. All of their problems are almost over. Niveia, who looks sullen, asks him if he’s going to publish Adele’s letter. She doesn’t agree with this method even if it means reducing his mother’s influence. Even though she knows it’s a delicate subject, Navier again tells Arendt that she doesn’t believe he knows all the details of his father’s death. Arendt, of course, is convinced that his mother has no excuse. Besides, Navier doesn’t know his mother as well as he does. She wasn’t there when his father’s died either.
    • Navier kind of conciliates him as she reaches out her hand to caress his cheek and he rests his cheek in her hand and closes his eyes. She assures him that she’s on his side just like he’s on her side. Arendt snuggles Niveia and rests his head on her shoulder. He admits that there were people whom he once thought were on his side but it turned out that they were really on his mother’s side. Niveia asks if his fiancée was one of them. He doesn’t exactly answer but when he leans further on Niveia, she takes that to mean, yes. Niveia again reassures Arendt that she won’t ever leave him. He says even if the sky cracks. She immediately answers yes. He adds, even if he loves her. Niveia doesn’t answer. She thinks about it as she looks through the window over his shoulder. As they’re cuddling, she finally answers that no condition would make her leave him. She knows that he’s become too important to her and she doesn’t want to face a new day without him by her side. Niveia closes her eyes and wonders how to name the tumultuous feelings she feels inside.
    • Three days later, those tumultuous feelings still lingered. As the Thierry envoy was set to return to their country, Isolde and Niveia discuss it. Apparently the delegation that Arendt will send to Thierry with the envoy includes Isolde and her husband. Isolde seems to be really going to console her father after his plans fell through with Vinfried. She’s never returned to Thierry since her pregnancy scandal three years before. Niveia is worried about Bertrand’s reception of Isolde. Isolde reminds her that her father always favored her. In a change of topic, Niveia confesses to Isolde that her marriage to Arendt is a contract marriage. Isolde tells Niveia that she and Arendt seem too close for their marriage to be just a political marriage. This leads to them discussing Niveia’s feelings. Isolde seems to think that from Niveia’s behavior, she does like Arendt. She asks Niveia questions like, how would she feel if Arendt cares for others, like a concubine, the same way he cares for her. Niveia, who can’t see her own expressions, doesn’t realize her initial reactions show her frowning. After a long silence, she eventually says she’s decided not to touch that kind of privacy. Isolde realizes that Niveia is reluctant to face her feelings and figures time will solve the issue. Near the end of Isolde’s conversation with Niveia, she tells Niveia that from the stories she’s heard about Esther/Estelle, Niveia is like her.
    • Arendt is in his office with Valer who will be returning to Thierry in a few days. Apparently he came to Arendt previously to work together on exposing the corruption of the envoy. Arendt tells Valer that he’s sorry for Betrand who thinks of Valer as a loyal servant. Valer says it’s right for a loyal servant to help the monarch go on the right path. Arendt asks him if he’s saying that he helped him for Thierry’s sake when Betrand lost face and gained nothing. Arendt credits Valer as the biggest contributor to the turn of events. He helped to turn Thierry’s envoy against Solen using the extra income from Gauren’s mine as the instigator. Arendt admits that the blow to Thierry wouldn’t have been this big if it wasn’t for Valer.
    • Consequently, Arendt tries to reward Valer but Valer refuses. Valer tells Arendt he helped him because of Niveia and he wants him to pass an envelope to Niveia because he doesn’t have the confidence to tell her the truth if he speaks to her alone. Arendt wants to know what could he have to tell the empress since he no longer has anything to do with her. Valer says relationships don’t necessarily exist only in the present. He also tells Arendt that he can open the letter if he wants. Valer tells him that he wants the person he loves to be happy. Arendt stiffens. Valer tells him that he knows he shouldn’t exist in Her Majesty’s happiness and it’s all just his greed. He adds that he hopes the empress never knows his involvement in the take down of Solen and Thierry envoy. Arendt assures him that he won’t say anything. Valer says he trusts His Majesty and he knows he’s in love too. Arendt admits he loves Niveia more than anything. There’s suddenly a knock on the door. Both men are surprised and realizes it must be Niveia since anyone else would be announced instead of knocking on the door.
    • Niveia, who left Arendt’s office in a hurry, couldn’t believe what she overheard. She heard everything from the moment Valer said that he wishes for the happiness of the one he loves. However, Niveia only ran away after she heard Arendt’s confession. His words of love shook her. Her heart is beating fast as she wonders what should she do in the future. She meets Rudiger who is playing with Rubiel. She invites them to tea to interrogate Rudiger about Arendt’s feelings for her. Rudiger really wishes he could run away but he’s stuck with her. Niveia tells him that he’s the only one who knows Arendt and her from the beginning of their acquaintance. Niveia tries to coax him into talking but he wouldn’t until she tells him she overheard Arendt saying he loves her. Rudiger is so surprised that his reaction could only be interpreted one way. He stutters several words and admits he knew it. Niveia asks him since when Arendt loved her. She reasons that his attitude towards her has been consistent since their first meeting. Rudiger thinks Arendt fell after they came to Vinfried. Niveia ponders if Arendt loves her, why isn’t he clingy when she spends time with others. Since this is her experience with Valer, it’s also how she recognizes love. Rudiger is a bit annoyed because Arendt whines to him privately and here is Niveia thinking that Arendt didn’t care about others spending time with her.
    • Rudiger asks her what will she do now that Arendt broke their contract first. Niveia thinks the contract is meaningless and no longer relevant for them. It was simply a condition to stipulate how they will treat each other. Rudiger asks her what she’ll do now. He assures her that no matter what, he’s there for Arendt. Niveia doesn’t answer him but reflects on her recent discovery. She still has a lot of doubts regarding whether she heard Arendt correctly or whether he just said that to keep up appearances with their story since only a few knew about their contract marriage. However, Arendt’s voice was full of affection when he admitted he loves her. Still, Niveia has a lot of thoughts about the cooling of love and how disappointing it turned out in her experience with Valer. Niveia tells Rudiger that she thought Arendt was sick and tired of love because of his former fiancée. Rudiger’s expression hardens. He asks her who told her about the former fiancée. Niveia confesses that Adelhite told her. Niveia remembers a time when Arendt told her that he wants her to be happy. She realizes now that he probably meant it in a different way than merely showing kindness. Niveia tells Rudiger that Adelhite told her that she and the former fiancée are alike. She asks Rudiger if it’s true but he’s speechless. She takes this to mean that it’s true.
    • Renier goes to Arendt to calm his fears. He asks Renier what if Niveia only wants to see him in public from now on. Renier tells him he’s too emotional to be his father’s son. They get to talking about how long ago his father died. It seems like it’s eight years ago. The palace servants used to wonder how Arendt is so different from his parents. His father is said to be a cold hearted man and only softened with his close relations. When Arendt grew up like a thunderbolt and began roaming the palace, it was often said that his personality doesn’t resemble his father or mother who were both cold and reticent. However, no one could dispute that Arendt is his father’s son because he was the spitting image of him. Renier tells Arendt that he’s glad he’s not like his father. While both Adelhite and Bethel had concubines, they were considered lovers. It was a famous story that they were closer to each other than any concubine of theirs. Renier thinks Arendt shouldn’t worry about the fact that Niveia found out his feelings. He thinks Niveia cares for Arendt.
    • Arendt admits that he wishes Niveia would love him too. Renier asks Arendt if he’s no longer afraid of love. Arendt says he’s fine now. Renier was concerned about how closely Niveia’s past story resembled Esther’s story especially with the way she loved her fiancé for a long time and clung to him. Arendt, acknowledges that there are some similarities between the two stories but thinks the actions of both women are different. He says Niveia didn’t betray anyone. When her love was rejected, she didn’t try to kill herself. No matter how much she was thrown away, Niveia just kept waiting and waiting. She waited in the same spot without being defeated by the strong wind. That’s Niveia’s love. Arendt declares that he wants to return the love he learned from Niveia. Renier advises Arendt to be brave. He hands Arendt an envelope and when Arendt opens it, dried peach blossoms fall out.

    • Niveia visits Adele to invite her to a banquet the royal couple will be hosting. Niveia thinks it’s important for Adele to attend in order to dispel rumors of her involvement with the Thierry envoy’s scandal. Although Arendt hadn’t published the letter that Adele wrote to Betrand, rumors has been sparked solely based on her involvement in the investigation. The nobles mostly didn’t believe the rumors but wanted clarification from Adele that she hadn’t joined hands with Betrand and therefore, Thierry.
    • Adele is inclined to reject Niveia’s invitation citing various reasons. She also thinks that Niveia should be concerned that the nobles showed their support to her by writing letters to her. She points out that Niveia should realize it’s better that she, Adele, doesn’t attend the banquet. Niveia counters that Adele is not competing with her so she doesn’t have to be worried. Adele warns her that a person’s heart can change at any time. Niveia reminds her that she no longer has the imperial seal anymore. Adele marvels at how much Niveia has changed in a few months. She remembers their first meeting when Niveia ran away crying. Observing Niveia now, Adele seems satisfied with her change.
    • Niveia encourages Adele to attend the banquet because it might be her last royal banquet. Adele asks her if she’s trying to kill her. Niveia denies it but informs Adele that Arendt was thinking of sending her out of the palace because of the letter she wrote to Betrand. Arendt was going to publish the letter and send Adele away but she, Niveia, was able to temporarily restrain Arendt’s actions. Adele smiles briefly and sharply when she hears that her son was going to kick her out. She asks Niveia if she wants her to thank her. Niveia answers that the ousting is only on hold until the Thierry envoy leaves. She informs Adele if they don’t find a way to persuade Arendt, the empress dowager will definitely get kicked out. Adele asks Niveia if she wants her to convince her son and if she thinks it’s possible. Niveia responds that she will persuade Arendt as long as Adele complies with her. Adele says that she can just leave instead. Niveia rebuts that Adele doesn’t truly want to leave. She asks Adele to tell her about her involvement in the emperor’s death and Esther’s death.
    • Adele admits that she understands Niveia questioning her about Bethel’s death but why is she asking about Arendt’s former fiancée. Niveia reveals that Arendt says he loves her. Adele is shocked. Her eyes even open wide. lol Niveia thinks it’s the biggest reaction she’s ever seen from Adele. Niveia smiles faintly and tells Adele that this is why she wants to know the truth about Bethel and Esther. After her initial shock passes, Adele tells Niveia that she and Bethel also had a contract marriage just like Arendt and Niveia and Bethel had limited time to live.
    • Bethel had an incurable disease from a young age. By the time he was an adult, the disease had already ravished his entire body. He hoped that he would at least live to 40 years old and that would be considered a long life in his estimation. Bethel had great ambition to make Vinfried into a great power. So, he worked to achieved his goal but he needed a successor. The contract Adele signed with him is to foster his successor into a great monarch. Since Bethel was struggling with his illness, the role was left to Adele. Moreover, whenever Bethel falls ill, Adele would step in and take over state affairs and lead them well. She was the person Bethel trusted and the person to whom he would entrust his successor. She was also someone whom he requested to kill him when the ravages of the disease became unbearable.
    • Niveia is amazed. She asks Adele if she agreed to the contract knowing that it included killing Bethel. Adele confirms this. The term to kill him was of course unpalatable to her but Bethel was running out of time. He needed a spouse immediately after taking the throne and she decided to take the hand he extended to her. She tried to make Arendt the best monarch just like Bethel wanted. Adele explains the manner in which she raised Renier, Rudiger and Esther together. She believes the best monarch is not simply made to a brilliant extent. It’s also the job of those underneath the monarch to use their brains and Arendt needed to know how to use people.
    • Adele says Esther was the child that was brought in for Arendt. Esther was from her long forgotten family. When she became empress, she sent a great deal of gold to her family but her brother spent it all and was forced out. Adele says that initially she was going to raise Esther in moderation but Esther had natural intelligence (perhaps Adele’s family has a gift of intelligence in girls unlike her brother) so that’s probably why she chose her for Arendt. Esther grew to the point where she can be empress immediately and Arendt grew up in the way Adele wanted him to be. However, Esther became obsessed with Arendt. Adele admits that she knew Esther had a special feeling towards Arendt but she didn’t care because they were going to be a couple anyway. But, one day, Arendt and Esther became estranged and Arendt became cold and then Esther hung herself. Adele also says that Julian leaked her bond with Esther to Arendt. It seems that Adele had Esther watching/spying on Arendt.
    • By time Arendt ascended the throne, he completely turned his back on Adele. Adele feels that his constant smiling expression masks his hatred for her. Adele says she knew she wasn’t completely free of blame so she accepted Arendt’s silent condemnation rather than clearing up the misunderstanding. Niveia thinks Adele bears some responsibility. After all, how could she try to control everything about Arendt even if he’s her son? She feels that if Adele hadn’t tried so hard to control Arendt and if she hadn’t put Esther to watch Arendt then he wouldn’t have misunderstood her. Esther also wouldn’t have died. (So, it seems like Arendt became cold towards Esther because he found out she was his mother’s spy).
    • Niveia starts thinking of who should be blamed for all this. She thinks of Bethel, but he was sick and ravished by illness. There’s Julian who revealed the relationship between Esther and Adele. There’s Esther who betrayed Arendt and left a scar. There’s Arendt who turned away from Esther. Niveia concludes that she can’t hold anyone responsible after all and that wasn’t why she asked the question in the first place. She remembers that time before when Arendt asked her if she’s on his side and he spoke about the people next to him who turned out to be on his mother’s side in the end. She now has a new appreciation for Arendt’s anxiety. She understands him better. Although Rudiger and Renier were on his side, they were placed there all by his mother’s design. And as long as his mother, who had been controlling him to make him a great monarch, resides in the imperial city, he couldn’t escape his anxiety.
    • Adele tells Niveia that she’s finished answering her question and what is she going to do now. Having empathized with Arendt’s feelings, Niveia feels an overwhelmingly urge to see Arendt. She suddenly misses him very much. She excuses herself and tells Adele that she’ll see her next time. Niveia feels an unprovoked longing and rushes to go find Arendt. She enters Arendt office and Renier is there too. Arendt is so surprised by her sudden appearance that he gets up and goes to her while asking if something happened because she doesn’t look good. Niveia is standing like a stone near the door and watches as Arendt draws closer. She sees the concern in his eyes. She takes a step towards him and hugs him tight.
    • Before Niveia entered Arendt’s office, Arendt and Renier were discussing the meaning of Valer’s token that he wants Arendt to give to Niveia. The envelope contained dried peach blossoms. The two brothers were trying to figure out if the peach blossoms mean something in the love language. Then they began to discuss how to handle the possibility that Niveia might have overheard Arendt say that he loves her. They have to host a banquet the next day so it’s better to resolve things as soon as possible. That’s when Niveia entered the office and Arendt rose to his feet embarrassed. Both are wondering why Niveia is there especially since they thought she was avoiding him. They argue for a bit until Arendt kicks Renier out of his office.
    • After Renier leaves, Arendt looks down at his wife who seems to be embarrassed. Apparently Niveia was crying. Arendt thinks that this is the first time that Niveia has initiated a hug with him. He’s happy but concerned because of her tears. He wonders what happened to make her react this way. He’s already cut off Solen and cleaned up everything that would make her cry because of her origin. Consequently, Arendt is troubled to see Niveia crying and gently wipes her tears on her cheek. He asks her if she’s feeling better now. Niveia says yes. Arendt smiles and jokes that if she missed him so much, why didn’t she tell him. She suddenly appeared and hugged him. Niveia looks up at Arendt and makes eye contact. She finally says that she wanted to hug him when she saw him. Just as he had comforted her, she wanted to comfort him. Niveia thinks to herself that she heard couples can do that. She thinks her excuse is pretty lame though. She’s embarrassed and her ears are red. She was able to hug Arendt because she missed him and wanted to hug him but she couldn’t figure out what to do after she hugged him so she couldn’t let go of his arms.
    • Arendt thinks his wife who sometimes seem as hard and mature like an old tree also shows her willow-like inexperience. He’s convinced that only he can make her so immature and he’s absolutely thrilled by this conviction. He smiles kindly and caresses her cheek with the back of his hand. Her cheeks were even hotter than they look. Arendt tells her that she can miss and hug him because they’re married. Arendt hugs her and the two begin to flirt. He playfully whispers in her ear. He asks her why did she miss him so much. Niveia playfully tells him it tickles and to let her go. They exchange light banter some more until she reveals to Arendt that she just came back from seeing his mother and they spoke about his father’s death.
    • Niveia sits next to Arendt and explains everything one by one. She explains about his father being the only one who knew his mother’s extraordinary genius and how the emperor had special meaning to Adele. He was her only companion and they started their marriage from a contract. She tells Arendt about the provisions of the contract which includes Adele acting as regent in case of Bethel’s early death, raising Arendt as a perfect monarch and promising to kill Bethel herself when the illness gets unbearable. Niveia is worried about how Arendt will react to these revelations. However, Arendt sits quietly holding Niveia’s hand for a long time until he finally admits that he thought something was weird all along. He had thought before that if his mother simply wanted to raise him as a puppet to wield for her power, he wouldn’t have grown up so painstakingly. She would not have had to kill his father if she simply needed power. However, the evidence showed that she did kill his father. Arendt is confused by his feelings and Niveia’s revelation about his parents conspiracy. He finally says now there’s no one to blame. He understands with his head what happened but because of all he’s been through because of his parents, he still feels uncomfortable with his mother. Niveia tells him that he doesn’t have to forgive everyone just because he understands why they did the things they did.
    • Arendt rests his head in Niveia’s lap. He tells her that the environment he’s been in all his life wasn’t something that made him feel lonely but strangely, whenever he thinks about that time, he feels lonely. He wonders if it’s because he discovered a secret he shouldn’t have known. The day he found out that his beloved mother monitored him through his fiancée whom he thought of as a real sister. His mother always taught him to distrust people but believe in the ones closest to him. Niveia asks him if he distrusts everyone now. He answers that he wouldn’t call it distrust. There’s just a blank space. He knows that he’s not a priority for either Rudiger or Renier. These are the people who were chosen by his mother and the closest people to him but he has to hide some of his most confidential secrets from them. Niveia asks if he hides secrets from her too. He doesn’t answer immediately so Niveia tells him not to answer as she gently strokes his hair. They talk about being important to each other. Arendt asks Niveia to stay with him today. She looks at him and discerns his loneliness. She suddenly experiences the urge to kiss him and clumsily follows it through. Arendt asks her how should he interpret her actions.
    • Niveia doesn’t really have an answer. Arendt is thrown into confusion. He mostly thinks that Niveia had overheard him say to Valer that he loves her. He’s also anxious about his feelings until he recognizes that Niveia’s wouldn’t leave him even if she knew the truth. Niveia says she doesn’t know why she kissed him. While Arendt is contemplating on their situation, Niveia kisses him again. Arendt opens his eyes wide. He discerns an expression of affection and trust on Niveia’s indifferent face. Niveia tells him it’s okay and Arendt thinks to himself, how can he not love her. He hugs her waist and asks her again about the kiss. Niveia admits that she doesn’t know why she kissed him. She asks him if he didn’t like it. He hurriedly assures her he liked it. Niveia laughs. She asks Arendt to kiss her instead since she can’t seem to do it well. Arendt tells her that it’s the first time he feels that he doesn’t know what she’s thinking. Niveia reminds him that this is all new to her too. Their dialogue is followed by the sound of their interlocking breaths rising and falling and a sizzling wave fills the room.

    • After their night of lovemaking, Niveia wakes up first in the morning. They spent the night in a small bedroom connected to the emperor’s office. Niveia is fiddling with Arendt’s silver hair as he sleeps with his arm around her waist. She wonders if it’s compassion or affection that she feels for Arendt. Does she love Arendt? She compares what she felt for Valer and what she feels for Arendt and they are not the same. She therefore concludes it isn’t love. So, then what is this precious feeling of fondness? She doesn’t think she would die without him but she needs him. She doesn’t smile because she’s happy when she sees him but she finds stability when they’re together. How can she describe this relationship and this feeling?
    • While Niveia is contemplating this issue of her feelings, Rosette brings her change of clothes. Niveia leaves the small bedroom to get dressed. She’s tired and Rosette asks her if she can’t rest a little longer. Niveia admits that she would have liked to but she has too many things she needs to do that day. She catches a glimpse of the dried peach blossoms on Arendt’s desk. She wonders where Arendt got the flowers since it’s still winter in Vinfried. It doesn’t take her long to realize that the flowers were the dried flowers she left behind at Valer’s estate. Proof of love that felt like summer. Niveia wonders why are the flowers here in Vinfried and why are they with Arendt. The answer is clear. Valer brought them there. She can’t understand Valer’s behavior. He was acting contrary to the expectations she entertained back when she left behind the letter and flowers thinking that they were no longer involved with each other. So why the hell was he doing this? It’s only then that she remembered that he was in the office with Arendt when she overheard Arendt say that he likes him.
    • Niveia is distracted as she prepares the banquet throughout the day. Later she meets Julian and announces that Arendt will expose Adele’s collusion with Thierry at the banquet. Julian reacts almost immediately. Niveia knows that anything involving Adele would rattle him. She tells him that with his cooperation, she can persuade Arendt to reconsider. Julian thinks he’s misjudged Niveia. She made sure to spring this matter on him in a short time that leaves him no other way of handling the situation. He tells her he thought he understood her and that she was kind. Niveia asks him if lending him a handkerchief made him think she was kind. She says lonely people are easily friendly. Julian admits defeat. Niveia asks Julian why did he snitch on Esther.
    • Niveia notices that Julian is immediately affected. In truth, she lied to Julian about Arendt exposing his mother. Arendt in fact doesn’t hate his mother anymore but Julian doesn’t know any of this. Niveia is lying to get Julian to reveal the truth about Esther. Julian asks Niveia why does she ask about his involvement with Esther. Niveia says she has to check. To herself, Niveia admits that just like Arendt saw the end of Solen, she wants to see the end of Julian’s involvement in his affair for him. There was truly no other meaning but that.
    • Julian says Esther was a very clever child. He met Adele through her. It’s hard to gain Adele’s affection and Esther gained it through following her well. Esther knew that she couldn’t turn her back on Adele if she wanted to remain in the imperial city as the crown princess. After she grew up and had fulfilled her duties as Adele’s henchman and established herself as an intimate fiancée of the emperor, she faced another problem. Arendt was too popular. In addition, he treated everyone, including Esther, the same so she was worried about this fact. Esther knew too well that she had nothing and that initially Adele didn’t bring her to the palace to be Arendt’s fiancée. Esther was worried about Arendt falling for someone else. There were many ladies interested in him. Among them were ladies who were more beautiful, more intelligent and more virtuous with a better status.
    • Due to her anxiety, Esther does something foolish. The emperor was on his sick bed and if he died suddenly, the coronation would happen right after the emperor’s death and she would automatically become the empress without interference from anyone. Niveia is shocked by the implication. Her breath catches. Julian admits he prepared a poison for Esther to give to the emperor. It’s a drug that slows breathing. She would mix it with the emperor’s medicine. However, it would be hard for Arendt to find out that it was Esther because it was easier to suspect that Esther was acting on his mother’s behalf. Niveia thinks to herself that it may be true that Esther tried to poison the emperor but Adele was also poisoning him. She realizes that Arendt doesn’t know the full truth behind this matter. Niveia tells Julian that they won’t expose Adele’s involvement with Thierry if he agrees to go as one of the envoy to Thierry. This was planned all along but Julian doesn’t know this. Julian doesn’t want to go because he wants to stay at Adele’s side. However, Niveia knows they have to send Julian away if they want to diminish and cut off Adele’s influence and communication with the nobles outside the palace. Julian is therefore forced to agree in order to protect Adele’s reputation.
    • Love ruins people. Niveia thinks of Julian and Esther’s brand of love and thinks that she couldn’t do it like them. Now that she knows Arendt’s heart for her, she realizes that she’s forced to find an answer. At the banquet, Niveia is still wrestling with these thoughts. Arendt, on the other hand, seems happy and at ease now that his worries were resolved, the envoy is returning to Thierry and he spent all of the night before together with Niveia. At one point during the banquet he goes over to Niveia and naturally kisses her on the forehead and hugs her waist. He asks if he made her too tired yesterday. Niveia is embarrassed with his open affectionate gesture among the banquet guests. However, she soon notices that the guests aren’t even paying them any attention.
    • Arendt proposes to Niveia that they take a trip further north for a week. She hasn’t been to see many places since she came to Vinfried. The way his eyes are glistening when he speaks about the trip and his cheeks flush, Niveia clearly sees that he’s in love with her. She wonders why she never recognized it before. Arendt wants to have their first trip together to make good memories. He flirts with Niveia and asks her if he’s being too greedy. Niveia denies this and admits she likes it too. Arendt practically glows when he hears this. He puts Niveia’s hair behind her ear and the touch of his fingers against her ear makes her face turn red. Her heart starts beating fast. It’s like she can hear it even above the orchestra music. The sound of her irregular heart beat and the sound of her breathing resonates loudly. Arendt even gets worried and asks if she’s feeling sick. She unwittingly shouts that she’s okay and draws the attention of several of the guests. Niveia is reminded of her past when people in Thierry would stare at her and talk and gossip about her and her unrequited love. Niveia catches her breath and tells Arendt that she’ll go rest for a while. He asks if he can join her. Niveia snaps that she already said she was okay. She surprises herself and notices that Arendt looks hurt for the first time. Seeing this, her heart stops. She quickly apologizes and then runs away.
    • Niveia goes outside to the garden. Unexpectedly, there’s someone else already there. It’s Valer, who calls out to her. She’s surprised to see him there and addresses him as Duke. Valer leads her to a more secluded place to avoid any talk of her speaking to a man in a bright place. Niveia follows him without thinking and when she comes to her senses, they’re under the moonflower tree. Valer says he’s leaving soon and he wanted to see the moon flowers before he leaves. He says they’re no different to the peach blossoms from Thierry. This reminds Niveia of the peach blossoms she found in Arendt’s office. She was contemplating on them for most of the day and Valer brought up the subject first. Her eyes sharpen when he does. Niveia tells him yes she remembers the peach blossoms. Valer asks if she received the peach blossoms he gave to Arendt. Niveia wonders why he didn’t give her the flowers himself but only answers that she received the flowers from Arendt. Valer says he wanted to borrow Arendt’s hand to return the flowers. Niveia asks him why. Valer says she confessed her eternal love but since he couldn’t answer it, he wanted to return them.
    • Valer admits that the first time he brought them, he wanted to talk to her about the past. He loves Her Majesty and wanted her to remember the past when she spoke of eternal love. Niveia asks if that means he doesn’t love her now. Valer says he love her. He knows it’s greedy for him to say this. However, his love is different from the past. His greed doesn’t stay with him. Valer adds that he wishes her to be happy. Even if she says she hates him and doesn’t want to see him again, he’s happy with that. Niveia questions, how is that love? She thinks there’s no one more greedy than a person in love. Even if that person says he doesn’t want anything, he always wants something in his heart. Therefore, how could Valer’s words be true? Valer says how can love have only one color? He points out that the love he returned is so fragile that it will disappear if you grab it. He tells Niveia not to dwell on the past that’s about to fall. He says she’s a strong person and he believes she will achieve her happiness even without his wishes. He looks at the moonflower tree for the last time and bows his head. There were no words of farewell. There was no sign of wanting to stay with Niveia. His love has already changed its course a long time ago. Probably since the last time he saw Niveia.
    • Niveia stands absentmindedly. The reality hadn’t sunk in yet. However, she recognized that Valer wished her happiness for the last time. It seems that his love wasn’t a lie. That was his brand of love. The way of love was different. There is the love where a person’s desires come first and there’s the love where the person’s loved ones come first. As soon as Niveia realizes that, her long lost emotions slowly unraveled. Once the tide opened, it was out of control.
    • Niveia hears someone call her name. She turns to the familiar voice. The neat silver hair was messy and the cheeks were flushed. Arendt tells her he’s been looking for her for a long time now. There’s worry, relief, and affection on his face. He apologizes for bothering her but he was worried she was sick. Niveia is moved by Arendt’s clear affection and concern for her. She wonders if she can tell him that she loves him even though she didn’t want to acknowledge this feeling. She knows how this feeling can blind people. However, she also knows that love that misses the right timing can calm down.
    • Niveia reassures Arendt that she’s not feeling sick. She was confused and ran away because she wasn’t confident to answer his love. She apologizes for hurting him. She finally reveals that she loves him. She says plainly, “I love you.” She had no choice but to admit it. She loves him. They had pledged that they wouldn’t love each other but now they changed course and are certain of love again. Niveia declares her love again. “I love you, Arendt.” Arendt gets emotional and laughs happily. The two embrace under the moonflower tree. Finally, it was spring for both of them.

It’s so sweet! Thanks so much for all these summaries.
I’m glad that Valer didn’t turn out to be a psycho ex as it was implied in some earlier spoilers, because it would have been such a cliche, and an unrealistic behaviour too.

Thank you! This is so nice! :blobmelt:

Now following your spoilers I get more and more doubtful about other spoilers here about how Valer will collaborate with Adele against Neveah, how they will spread rumours that Neveah is 'infertile', how Valer will try to do more bad stuff just to get back Neveah, etc. I mean, from your spoilers for me it looks more and more that Valer found his peace regarding his 'love' to Neveah, Adele seems to be a smart woman, tho little bit greedy for power but not to the point of being crazy and crossing the line of logic. So previous spoilers looks more doubtful now... :hmm:

Wow. I didn’t realize there were spoilers on here like that. Valer didn’t do any of those things. He was a bit annoying at times but even his last conversation with Arendt and later, Navier, wasn’t bad. Adele wasn’t too bad either although she really did try to control Arendt’s life in order to raise a good monarch. She cared for Niveia early on and was more concerned about Niveia and Arendt acting with the toughness of monarchs. Valer always took Niveia’s side against Bertrand’s order to use Niveia and proactively went to Arendt to thwart Solen, Bertrand and the greedy envoy people. I think the most surprising thing for me was Esther entertaining thoughts of sending the former emperor to an early grave and Adele agreeing to poison the emperor as part of their contract marriage. I think Solen was the worst out of everyone.

It isn't that surprising. Sometimes, someone misunderstood because he can only read (translate) the comment section and believe hypotheses are spoilers. Other times it's just a troll. That happen.
In "My fiancé is in love with my sister" there is a miss like that. About the fact that the fiancé is manipulated by someone. But from the novel, it's actually a dream he has about the first timeline that he forget when he woke up. This chapter is uses to give the reader his POV, but somehow, the spoiler thread think otherwise.

That makes sense. Oddly enough, this novel doesn’t translate as good as some novels using Papago. Like Villianess is a Marionette translates so well for me with Papago. Reminiscent Adonis also translates well with Papago. With this novel, I had to use Google translate together with Papago and still have to use context to figure out quite a bit at times especially when it comes to the dialogue and who’s speaking. So, I can see an issue with spoilers at times if the translation from the apps aren’t very clear and the spoilers are a mix of novels, speculation and comments.

Lol, true in many respects. There is a warning though that the speculations do come from interpreting reviews and thus subject to change.

However, those "spoilers " are also from early in the novel when absolutely no one was really translating leaving us non-koreans having to scrounge for something...and also generating interest. (*so it worked)

Most reviews are 95% gushing comments about the ML and less about plot, or hating on antagonists. Truthfully, when someone reads the reviews it's more of a temp check on story the pulse rather than exact knowledge of events.

They had a silver haired daughter. She’s ten years old in the side story. It said she looks like her mother but have the hair color of her dad.
