Spoiler: Arendt's little revenge So, after investigating about Niveia's background to see whether whatever she said about herself before was truly facts or not, and finally decided to accept Niveia's proposal to marry her, Arendt was actually thinking about giving back and proving himself that he could fulfill what she wanted from him (becoming her support). The next day (the day he promised he would meet with Niveia again in the central hall), Arendt wanted to make a little commotion about his and Niveia's marriage proposal by starting to tell the Tierry Emperor that he finally met someone beautiful who finally able to 'steal' his heart. He even emphasize that he is the one proposed to this mysterious girl from Tierry (in a hope that people won't badmouthing Niveia and see how indecent her acts were: quickly to become someone else's bride when her and Valor's engagement was broken not too long ago) and hopes that Tierry's Emperor would give him permission to take her as his bride whoever she was later. And of course, since this is a request from an Emperor (from a big empire) he couldn't say no. Moreover, Arendt is the brother of his daughter's husband (how can you say that? lol, his daugther's brother-in-law(?) of sort), so the Tierry's Emperor wouldn't be able to reject his request. So he said, "Of course I would give you my permission, but who is she? the one that able to move your heart and made you propose first?" and Arendt was like just, "Don't get impatient, she will come soon." AND YEAH, Niveia finally come! Beautifully! Wearing an elegant white dress that when people saw how Arendt personally come to escort her after she comes down from her family's carriage, it was described as, "Looks like how the groom would come and pick his bride up." and yeah, people (the emperor, the aristocrats, and of course Valor included) went shocked (even frozen) after saw who was the one Arendt has been talking about. But, Arendt was indifferent with that and just go, "Hmm, why everybody look so shocked?" and even provoked Valor by saying, "Duke Wistash, what happened? Your face color doesn't look so good (you look pale). Would it be better for you to rest and not participate in today's ball?" and added another one to the Tierry's Emperor "My friend, Bertrand, she's the one I want to marry." Seeing how Arendt provoke him, Valor finally spoke along this line Valor: "Forgive me if I seem to speak impolitely, but, she's my (ex)fiancee." (he implies that both he and Niveia still have some kind of connection here) Arendt: "And, so?" Valor: "I do not know whether His Majesty knows this or not, but our engagement is the agreement of our parents since we were small." Arendt: "Yes, I know. But now, you two are basically stranger, right?" After saying that Arendt stop greeting people who stand to watch both him and Niveia, and escort her inside the central hall. Later on, after all of the commotion, they are finally able to dance together in the central hall, this way Niveia finally could asked what Arendt was actually thinking by stirring up commotion like that. (I don't think this is accurate but they were talking like this) Arendt: "What do you think about my little revenge? This way I could finally show that I'm on your side to support you, right?" Niveia: "So it really was a revenge." Niveia: "Now, is there anything I could do to prove to you that I fulfill the requirements as your bride?" Arendt: "You don't have to prove anything. Your past was enough to prove that you fulfill the criteria I needed." Niveia: (smiles sadly at this fact) "I am relieved that my past turns out to be sufficient evidence to meet His Majesty's criteria." And then they dance some more, at this time, Arendt actually enjoy to observe Niveia's graceful gesture and expression and he often compares her to butterfly like: how her eyelashes moves slowly and lightly like a butterfly wings, and how graceful her steps are, and how slim and delicate her features are, and so on. When the song was over, he actually takes time to part with her by saying that he actually doesn't really want to part and still wanted to talk to her, but still, there are bunch of things he needs to take care/prepare for the marriage (since it is a royal marriage and such) so he needed to find the Tierry's Emperor to arrange the dowry and so on. It was really cute when he said to Niveia (using a very sweet tone), "I need to meet Bertrand to arrange things. So, while I'm gone, do not go too far, and do not mingle with the crows (I think he means 'do not engage with hateful people' so that the incident with Eustace won't happened again), wait for me and enjoy the ball." and Niveia was like, "I'll bear it in my mind." and then!! he give a light kiss on Niveia's forehead before he finally (quite reluctantly) go! I think, this was from chapter 20-22!

Spoiler: Meeting Valor again So after Arendt go to find the Tierry's emperor, the aristocrats in Tierry empire start to flock around Niveia, overwhelming her with those sickening sweet talking about how she's beautiful and dance so good and so on, wanted to make connection with Arendt through her, and seeing her like that, Valor decided to help her by saying that the Emperor (Bertrand not Arendt) wanted to meet her. Knowing Valor intention, Niveia said she appreciate his help but she hope he won't do any of this things ever again. She said, she already going to be a wife and a empress in another empire so she doesn't want people to associate her with him ever again. Niveia also add that after parting with her, he should also need someone soon since a number of ladies who seems to like him in Tierry is still many, and do not need to keep appearing in front of her. She just doesn't seem to understand why would he start to look after her more often now that they are not related to each other anymore. And then Valor starts to ask her again (the conversation was kind of like this, not 100% accurate tho): Valor: "There's something I want to ask you." Niveia: "......go ahead." Valor: "Joachim XII, when did you meet him?" Valor: "I heard, he was the one who proposed to you first. It has been more than a week since you moved back, is it between those time? Niveia: "Valor, no, Duke Wistash, stop." Valor: "Or, did you broke our engagement because he proposed to you? That's why you said you don't love me anymore?" Niveia: "Please shut your mouth." Valor: "I want to know Niveia. What happened in these passing days have been too surprising/overwhelming (for me)." Niveia: "Do you think, you have the right to hear the reason why." Niveia: "It was indeed a bit surprising. Since you never thought everything around you would change in this way." Valor: "I merely wanted to know the reason. Why so suddenly you change in to," Niveia: "Why you don't know? It's you." Valor: ".......yes?" Niveia: "Human is not a stone. Why do you think I need to keep loving you? Why do you think I will keep staying next to you? Human could change, Duke Wistash. It's the same to those who once walking in the same road with you." (in this time she remembered how and what kind of things she received in the last 10 years and think, why he never thought of this simple thing before or should she need to hurt herself more (implied by cutting her hand until he could see her flesh) before he could think this kind of simple thing and showing how she had been hurting all this time, and starts to cry silently) Niveia: "The decade you turned away (ignored) me changed me. There was a time when I really loved you, I loved you but, that doesn't mean it would last forever." Valor: ".......Niveia." Niveia: "Valor, love has its moments." Niveia: "In the last 10 years, there are lots of those moments. But you missed them all. Now I don't love you anymore. It's not related to Joachim at all." Valor: ".........." Niveia: "Do you understand it now?" Niveia doesn't wait for him to reply to her and finally walked away. She doesn't want to go back to the hall so she tried to find a place where people won't ask shy she's bawling her eyes. But before she could move to far from the palace, someone called her name (Niveia). It was quite surprising that she immediately stopped her step. Almost no one in Tierry ever called her by her name, not her father, and obviously not her mother, and everyone other than her family always called her "Miss" "Young Miss" or "Miss Sollen" (Valor also usually called her "Young Miss" or "Miss Sollen" until very recently, when she broke their engagement did he start calling her by name), that's why the other person in her mind who would call her by her name was only one, Arendt. She finally looking up to the person who called her and before she could speak, Arendt already reaching out to her and put his hand in her cheeks (wanting to stop her tears from falling and wetting her cheeks) and said, "I already warned you not to go near the water. But here you are, already drenched like this." (after I read the chapter again, actually, what he said before was not "Don't go too far", but "Don't go near the water" which means he doesn't want to see her sad and crying like this). Actually after this point, it changed into Valor's point of view where he finally starts to think thoroughly about Niveia's words and the way he finally know how unconditional her love before and how he regrets deeply of his previous action towards her. Oh, and fun fact, it was quite peculiar that when it was in Arendt's point of view, he was always describing how Niveia reminded him of butterfly, but when it was in Valor's point of view, he always describing how Niveia reminded him of a doll. Arendt also always called Niveia using "그대" which means "you" but this was actually kind of a very rare pronoun to use, people would use this only in a poet or song which almost has the same meaning as "dear", and almost never use it to call people in a daily conversation. While Valor usually used "당신" which means "you" in a formal way, but also could be used as a sarcasm when you argue with other people.

Don't worry, right after what I've wrote in my previous post, it was changing into Valor's perspective and describing how he deeply regrets his action towards Niveia for the whole decade. Spoiler: Valor's Regret After Niveia rejected his help and saying how he has been missing all of those moments to make her stay by his side, when Valor goes back to his manor, he keep staying at Niveia's room in the third floor for the whole night. Thinking and regretting deeply about his action in the past. Well, from his perspective in this chapter, one thing that makes him doesn't like Niveia was because of her love towards him. Even though he keeps being cold towards her but she would keep going back to his side. He kinda felt suffocated by her love that's why he never saw her attention as something good and instead hate it when she's being attentive to him. He actually never know that she was being ignored in her own home/by her own parents, that's why when he saw the way Niveia acted like how his love and attention is all she wanted, it just makes him felt 'sick'. He cannot stand it. But then, after she left him and he finally learnt about her situation with her family and how, basically, everyone treats her, Valor finally realized how lonely she must be in the past 10 years. Because she really doesn't have anyone in her side. People saw her as a servant's daughter, her parents ignored and neglected her, and at the time, her love and affection for Valor could be the key to her freedom but unfortunately he doesn't like her. When he was contemplating inside her room (in Wistash manor) for these past 10 years, he could see how barren her room is. (Her room was located in the end of the corridor, like all the way at the end, where people seldom come and goes) There was this one moment in the past where Niveia work herself to sick and people just literally never paid attention to her, even though she is technically a guest and Valor's fiancee, when she called for help because of fever, headache, and sore throat, not only Valor, the duke and the duchess, even maid and butler never came to attend her (Niveia conditioned was quite severe at the time, because not only cold but also fatigue and stress, and because she didn't came since morning because of her condition, the maid also never came to send her breakfast or check her condition, they simply neglect her). That's why Niveia needed to come down to the 2nd floor to ask for help. It was even described, 'Niveia knows they (everyone in the manor) won't call any doctor to examine her condition, that's why she hoped, at least she could get a medicine to reduce her pain and let her rest for the rest of the day', and then, when she get to the 2nd floor, she saw how Valor and his parents having a very warm dinner together, and because she doesn't want to spoil the mood between this family of three, she gave up to speak to Valor and try to find another maid, but her body simply cannot handle her condition and she fainted. At this time, Valor who noticed the commotion finally knows Niveia's condition and ask the maid/butler to call the doctor to examine her condition and it was also the first time he knows how her room condition was. Niveia's room was actually not a proper room where the duke/duchess usually let the guests to use when they came by and intended to stay at the Wistash manor for days or weeks or months. Niveia's room was actually one of the room that the manor's servant used in their break time (some kind of lounge), that's why the room is not to big, even the bed is not a proper bed for someone who they could call as guest, and there were no thick curtains to block the wind and warmed up the room. And she has been living in that room for the whole maybe 5-6 years before Valor decided that the curtain needed to be changed into something thicker after Niveia fall sick (yes, that's the only thing he change for her even after he knows how bad his parents treated her, he didn't change her room into one of the proper guest room and only change her curtain, and it was only after 5-6 years after she moved and lived in the manor as his fiancee). It was even being described as, 'at that time even if Niveia d*ed nothing would change in his live'. (I know...he's such an a**hole. I KNOW.) AND THEN, he dared! to only just REALIZE how barren and cold and lonely her room felt after she finally decided to move out from the manor and stated that she didn't love him anymore. How lonely she was in the past 10 years, being all alone sleeping and staying in this manor. (he cried after this realization by the way) After calming down his mind, he starts to gaze all over the room and remember how Niveia asked about whether he had throw away and changed everything in her room or not. By this, he finally noticed the most upper drawer in her cupboard is slightly crooked, and remembered that sometimes he saw Niveia would come and go to store something in that place. That's why he started to open this drawer and find papers inside the drawer (there are lots of it). They were Niveia's letters through the whole time she lived in the manor and when he scan through the date, most of it written when he was out in the war. Niveia basically wrote about her daily activities and everything she find interesting enough to be shared with Valor. Like how the spring comes, about the tea she started to drink just because she learn he used to love the flavor, how large the dukedom is, how she started to work for the dukedom to fill after his parents absence, how hope he would not hurt himself. Sometimes the letter was long, and sometime it was short. She constantly wrote it the whole time he was away from the dukedom. This one is the last letter she wrote to him: "Today I asked the gardener about the new tree he planted. It was a peach tree, and he said that when it starts blooming, the peach blossom was beautiful. The gardener also told me about the flower meaning of it. Do you curious about it? 'I'm forever yours.'--was the meaning. I want to give a bucket of the peach blossom when you came back." And then, he finally realized, even though he knew she loved him for this past decade, he never heard Niveia uttered the love words to him, not even once. Fearing that the words would burden Valor, Niveia decided to swallow her feeling inside her heart and only show it through her affection towards him.
By the way, I finally got to read the wedding chapter between Arendt and Niveia (only the wedding ceremony in the Thierry tho, not yet in the Vinfriet, it's chapter 52 btw) and it's already the journey from Thierry to Vinfriet! (now I read chapter 66) Oh, and Arendt already fall hard for her at this point of story LOL Spoiler: Niveia's name This is actually being mentioned a lot latter, I forgot when, but the origin of her name "Niveia" was supposed to be the backward (opposite) from "Heaven" >> "Nevaeh"; the marquess gave her this name because at the time it felt like, she rob his happiness from his live and thus gave her this name. But then, later on, she was bestowed a new name when she become Arendt's wife and it was: Niveia Ermione Thierry Joachim "Ermione" means "the shining one" in their language, and this kind of name (which contain the meaning of 'light') wasn't supposed to be given so easily to anyone and yet, Arendt successfully make Bertrand bestowed Niveia with this name hohoho
OMG he is such an a**hole! I'm so glad that she left him and he regrets it. btw, why the letters are still in the room? I thought she sent it to him when he's out in the war ~ or he sent it back without opening the letters? Even her mom was a b*tch, it wasn't her fault. I can't believe his dad gave her that name.
