    Hi guys,

As I am browsing this forum, I noticed that a lot of people don't really like stories with an MC with plot armor.
It's not like I don't understand the feeling but I rather like it when the MC or lead caracters doesn't encounter too much trouble.

    Is it weird?

No, its pretty normal. If people really didn't enjoy MC's with plot armor they wouldn't be on NU very often if at all.

I think they are mocking it more than hating it. It's obviously not good writing to have so much plot armor, but it doesn't mean they don't like the story overall.

It's because obvious plot armor is a shitty authors excuse to Deus ex Machina every notable development in a story.

Novel with MC without plot armor= tragedy novel like Hamlet/Othello.

I don't want to read stories like those again.

Very normal. Just ignore the people who ridicule authors for creating plot armors. Each and every reader has his or her own preferences.

Also, plot armor is what we call luck... the MCs are just born lucky... that's all.

by logic 99.9% of main characters have plot armor by the fact they are main characters and authors aren't beings of perfection.

Also, a lot of the forum hates plot armor, but a majority of readers on Novel updates aren't on the forum, let alone have an account.

Minorities are the loudest, it's a common thing.

Only if they survive realistically, not like when Indiana Jones survived a nuclear blast in a REFRIGERATOR

you're pretty normal tbh most/some of the novel that they say that don't have a plot still have a plot armor 'cause if it didn't have it then the mc will usually die right?

No. As a matter of fact, it's normal. Because if you think about it, plot armor doesn't really exist. People often times forget that they are reading about a story that is centered around a SINGLE, SPECIAL character. That character is the focus of the story, his travels, his encounters, his exploits. And if that character doesn't have this so called "plot armor", then nothing really separates him from the setting. The story would lose its focus and then it aaall spirals downward. Think about it, which would be a more worthwhile topic of a story? A person who aspires to be the strongest and achieves it, or a person who aspires to be the strongest and gets killed in his very first fight? I think this misconception that alot of people have is that "plot armor" is the same as Deus Ex Machina (which in fairness, IS pretty annoying when used one too many times). The thing is, if a character survives through an "impossible" scenario using tools that he is previously given in the story, then it isn't Deus Ex Machina. It's called the reader not paying attention. So... back to the point, nope. You're not weird at all. I mean hey! I'm a person who's fine with looking down a skyscraper but absolutely hates walking on ten-foot tall bridges.

    Have a nice day~

Everyone is willing to tolerate different amounts of plot armor in their fictions; generally the more they like the character the more willing they are to tolerate blatant plot armory, but most people prefer it if the author makes at least a token attempt to hide or justify the plot armor.

Still it's really subjective; some people don't mind if characters possess obvious and implausible plot armor, other people lose all sense of immersion.
