I need a bit of help with this sentence "わたしのようなもの、殿下の婚約者などあまりにももったいなく、私では王妃の役もつとまるわけも無く、ごじたい申し上げたく……". Been stuck on it for a while, its easy for the most part, but the last part (ごじたい申し上げたく) has been stumping me. Thanks in advance to any kind soul willing to help out.
Somewhere along the lines of: "It's wasteful for someone like me to become His Highness's fiancée. I can't play the role of the queen, so i'd like to decline..."
わたしのようなもの、 (someone like me) 殿下の婚約者などあまりにももったいなく、 (is unworthy of being your highness' fiance) 私では王妃の役もつとまるわけも無く、 (i would also be unfit to fill the role of the queen) ごじたい申し上げたく (so I would like to withdraw) I'm assuming the じたい is 辞退. 辞退 - declining; refusal; nonacceptance; turning down; withdrawal (e.g. of candidacy); pulling out (e.g. of a race); excusing oneself The sentence sounds very polite and subservient as a whole. The "ご" before the "じたい" also makes it sound more polite.
@RosyCloud, I really appreciate the help but if I could have gotten the correct answer from the machine translation I wouldn't have needed to post here. @Devil_Pending Thanks for the quick reply, its been a big help, and @arashi-chan12 , I'm still god awful at polite Japanese, haven't had may chances to encounter it till now, so thanks for taking your time to break it down explain, I'll hopefully remember this in the future : P .
