The Shill Game You just got clickbaited. You probably thought this was another drama onsite but it’s a community game. Roles: Marketing Directors Promotional Shills Flaming Troll Shills Game concept: There are multiple companies who are all releasing new products into the market, despite selling different products they are in direct competition with each other. As traditional ads and bribing critics is not enough in the modern world, the Marketing Directors of each company decide to hire shills to pose as real people and promote their product while disparaging their competition. The Marketing Director’s job is to make an introductory post in the actual game thread that introduces and names the company, product, and other details about the product. They cannot say anything bad about the product because of NDA and they cannot talk about other company’s products in fear of being sued for libel. The Promotional Shill’s job is to act like a satisfied customer of the product and talk about how great it is. They may talk about the negative parts of the product as well to seem more legitimate but should have an overall positive message. They may also argue against criticism leveled against the product and defend it. They are discouraged from talking about other companies’ products unless criticism leveled towards their product compares it to other products or if it’s indirect. Example of indirectly mentioning the other products: Spoiler Company A has hair gel while B has toothpaste. Promotional Shill for company A says that the hair gel is so versatile that it can be used as a substitute for toothpaste, rendering traditional toothpaste irrelevant and a waste of money with this product. The Flaming Troll Shill is just as it sounds, they act like a dissatisfied customer of rival products. They nitpick at flaws within the product, attack the company, makeup colorful side effects from using said product, and make an overall ruckus about things. They can also present their company’s product as a better alternative but their main job is to discredit the enemy. The actual game will take place in a separate thread with a poll that determines the winner. After the Marketing Directors make their introductory posts, normal users are allowed to join in and pretend to be legitimate customers while joining in any banter freely. Anyone can vote in the poll, including the Marketing Directors and their shills. The poll will be closed and the winner announced after a certain amount of time, a clear winner emerges, or the thread dies down. Penalties will be applied to the final poll results if people go outside their assigned role too much. Setup: 1. Teams of 3 need to be formed. For the first game, it’ll only be two companies so we need a total of 6 players. You can decide on roles at this point or after receiving the product you’re supposed to be pushing. 2. I’ll show who’s participating in the game at the end of this thread. Then I’ll create a group conversation with each team, sending them the product they have to market and then let them come up with names and an introductory post. The Marketing Director has the final say in matters here, but take a lesser role during the actual game. 3. I will not tell groups what their opposing company’s product is until the actual game. However, I will tell them the overall theme of the products so they can think a little bit about what to say pregame. 4. After both groups are ready, I’ll make the poll and new thread. Then the Marketing Directors will post their introductory posts and the shills can get to work. Company A: Company B: P.S. I was just promoted from a volunteer to a paid admin of Royalroad! so the thread name is not just clickbait! Woohoo
Please increase the seats for trolls, we need more representation for we are the undisputed majority.
Non-players can still participate in the game and freely troll for whoever side they want. The players are just needed to form teams and some order to things.
A shill is someone who is paid to say good things about a company or do things for them without revealing that they are a shill and they are officially not employees. They're like spies and paid actors.
TL;DR Two companies compete for votes on a poll for their product in teams of 3. The marketing director, and two shills who pretend to be customers and argue for the company and against the other company.
Was it okay you put an ad though lol. I've been tried for this kind of things and they're really secretive. Edit : uhh okay it's just roleplaying.
