I've watched danshi koukousei no nichijou live action, it quite good. Some change happened but not too much, the actors doesn't look exactly like in the anime but what can we say? It's hard to find someone with a face exactly like an anime characters...
Not many actor want to change their face just for one live action movie... We can even say almost none (maybe there's one person that will do that...)
Let say he/she is in two different live action movie, of course his/her role are different for those two movie. Doesn't that mean he/she have to change face at least twice?
The mistake is that the writer took dragonball frenchise as his base platform. Dragonball is too famous to have its storyline warped. Everyone would notice any kind of change and immediately judge and condemn the writer. Like substituting lex luthor for a teen with hair on his head. In that sense, he kinda deserve it. And now, he have a mud smeard all over his face. Apoligizing wont work much.
Shocker! A movie director exploiting the popularity of a franchise and going for an easy money-grab from a fan base that will watch it regardless of whether or not the movie is bad? No way! For real though, people complained about GT all the same, but still watched it. Fans are gullible like that sometimes.
I agree with you though with todays sfx they should at least make it presentable. I kinda like gokusen in live action tv series as well as nodame cantabile. thought nodame wasn't as comedic as the anime it was not as bad as the movies like avatar, dragon ball etc.(ayako kawasumi was phenomenal in voice acting).
Even the most over the top unrealistic things can be adapted to live action well, Lord of the Rings or Blade Runner for example. This movies sucktitudinal badness was not because it was an anime first.
So many things were absolutely wrong in that movie, I find it offensive to call it a "Dragon Ball" movie.
Well... Not all live-action movies adapted from anime are shits. I mean, look at Rorouni Kenshin movie. I watched it, I was awed, and clapped. They've done it right as it was supposed to. If the director, script writer, and story writers done it right, they deserve recognition from doing their best in not disappointing the fandom of the said source. And if the staff are just like this stupid writer, then kiss your money goodbye 'cuz they're up there to burn your money for such disappointment.
I watched it, and I cried because of how it lobotomized my brain of my childhood memories. The movie sucks dragon balls so bad, I had a fever for a week, long enough for me to write a will.
I watched it but forgot how it was. That means I didn't like it much. He's got courage to apologize. Good for him.
