Mm...based on what I've read. The $3bln stock loss from EA comes from the caving and removal of the microtransactions. Not from the *bright* idea of packaging the DLC with a $60 game.

 

The guy that suggested mtx in BF2 is the CEO of the company lmao. He started at EA working on the original fifa, and back as early as 1997 they added mtx to fifa so you could assemble an "all star team" through buying packs. The stock is the same price now as it was 6 months ago, and as soon as EA is out of the news, its going to go back to its steady rise. The negative press is literally the only reason for the stock price drop, and as soon as its blown over they will slowly start adding back in mtx/DLC to the game.

 

So... What's the TL;DR?

 

Is this supposed to make me feel bad? EA has had this coming for years, and honestly the Video game industry as a whole. there are definitely need for reforms like back when Nintendo released their golden seal of quality assurance and ROB. But EA themselves haven't really been selling games, just money drains. all the sports games are essentially the same, and the battle front games while having lots of positive points just don't reach the same brilliance as the originals.

True...E.A has been doing stuff like this for years. There were a few Class Action lawsuits from employees who normally worked 100 hour weeks and not getting sufficient overtime pay. I believe E.A had to pay out 15 million for that one. Although 15 million is probably chump change compared to their resources.

There are no takebacks in game designs.

Take simcity as an example. The game tanked upon release due to online restriction, they said the game was unplayable when you werent online. A year later they proved themselves wrong. But people have moved on not caring about the game anymore.

If they were going to procede with the microtransactions, parents will refuse to buy the games, government agencies were already lining up suing them for adding gambling content into a game.

The big brass of ea just dont get it. They dont have to worry about pirating if they fix the price right, 60 dollars for a game that extorts further money from you is daylight robbery. Their stock crashed coz people realized their greedy intentions throughout games and this might be the straw that broke the camels back.
