Discussion Imagine you're not the MC

When we read stuff, we obviously empathize with the protagonist the most. We forget ourselves and vicariously live through the MC. Everything he experiences is something we experience. Like watching porn and thinking you're the one doing the deed.

Now, how weird does it feel if you look at the MC from another perspective? This guy has all the beautiful women fall for him, becomes incredibly powerful in 1/10000 the time required for other people, heavenly treasures fall into his lap for no damn reason.

These things are fun when you empathize with the MC. But try to put yourself in the shoes of another disciple in his sect, or even a rival. You'd want to kill this mother fucker and his whole god damn lineage.

 

...pump up the hate breaks man, that is why these are wish fulfilment stories.

Also, good that you have empathy. Kinda feeling the burn when you become the receiving end of MC's shit.

 

That's why they are called "Angry Young Masters"

 

You need to remember that other people won't have as much contact with the mc as the reader. Sure, you as the reader knows that mc get all the women, and that his plot armor is so thick that every time he almost dies it turns into him getting stronger, but other side characters won't. Even if they do ocasionally see the mc with a harem of women following him, how would they know the women loves him and arent with him as adventures/fellow cultivators (depending on the theme), and how do they know his strenght is from plot armor and not talent?

I only feel good when the MC doesn't for absolutely no reason have chicks falling all over him. Hence when they have this massively large harem of beautiful women.

Also these things falling out of the sky are generally occur in an area where something is supossed to fall out of the sky if your lucky so I don't much care for that part. However when they can beat 12 or so ranks above them I feel poor cultivators not allowed to reach the apex cause of bloodline ohh well your death will be quick.

 

Would someone think of the young masters? seriously, i grew weary of stories that overtly do this ages ago. I by far prefer the ones where the MC has friends and other people around him that are just as powerful and successful, if not more, than him. I love when the special power of the MC is to actually make friends with other bad ass and awesome people.

I've wondered what kind of character i'd be in a xuanhuan novel and i realized that i'd be a mob spectator. I'd be there in the crowd, envying the gains of the MC, but dreading the risks they took to get it. Then go die a senseless death to setup a scene where the MC looks cool...

 

I'd go to sleep and let him protect the sect.

 

From another perspective, 'arrogant young master' is just jealous of the heavenly luck of the stupid hypocrite MC. Like how MC tried to kill someone for treasures, these young masters tried to kill MC but they fail, that's the difference between them and MC.
