Stars are not immortal and even universes aren't immortal..How can we, mere cells at the atomic level reach such lofty standards? In other words it is impossible. Human may find a way to rejuvenate their cells by a few cycles, thereby increasing their life span proportionately, but even that will have a limit on how many times our cells can sustain it.

True immortality is a paradox in the sense that it is impossible to prove as you would need a end result to prove it but since immortality is meant to be eternal any form of "end" would only work to disprove it. :p

No. I wouldn't. Screw that. Being immortal is a ridiculously stupid concept in itself. Thats just a pointlessly irrational fear of death. I'm not saying its wrong to fear death in the sense of "oh shit, someone has a gun pointed at you", I'm saying its wrong to fear death and try to avoid it (through something like immortality). Its nowhere near as nice or enviable as some series might make it out to be. In reality? Well, if you're immortal and you stay in civilization, you'll be found out. Especially if your physical appearance still ages to that of an old person, you'll still be found out eventually. The oldest recorded person died at 122 years old. Past that, you'd already be breaking the known world record. Ignoring the fact that you'd eventually end up on a dissection table if you're completely fine at 130+, if you ever end up in a car accident or something and emerge completely fine as an immortal, you'd be screwed even before reaching those ages.

To avoid that, you'd have to live away from civilization. In the wild or something. Well...enjoy! You get to chill out in grasslands and sht, with nature, animals, and....yea. Thats kinda it. Human contact would be dangerous. You wouldn't have stuff like technology. What are you gonna do? You can just live on forever but...thats not really gonna be too fun. You can mess around occasionally, but as I already said, too much human contact would be dangerous.

Simply put, unless it comes with god-tier powers, enough to genuinely avoid all threats (not just be immune to death), immortality is garbage. Besides...being immortal doesn't mean everyone around you is immortal. Even if you end up reigning as a god or king or something, the people around you would just die. Learning to get over deaths and move on isn't gonna help either. What'll you do when there is a supernova or the universe begins collapsing or something? Eternity is a pretty damn long time. Civilizations are bound to end at some point. Then you'll just have nothing to do.

Thing with immortality is, since you can't die no matter what, regardless of how you live, you'll eventually end up like some of those immortals you see in fiction. Demotivated, nothing to do, lazy, not giving a damn about anything, looking for ways to end their immortal lives and/or praying for something interesting to happen are some of the better outcomes. Alternatively, you could just end up like one of the vengeful, angry types. Bitter at the world, jealous of people with purpose in their lives, depressed at the loss of their loved ones, the so called "maou" or "evil god" types. Either way, a shitty end.

There has been a lot of debate in this thread, but can we just close it now or something? I'm pretty sure that this quotation right here is the most correct answer that anyone could possibly give, since its pretty much a perfect, irrefutable argument.

    Yes you can.

Just register yourself to the nearest immortal sect.

And begin to cultivate. Good luck.

    No because entropy
Entropy is a thermodynamic quantity representing the unavailability of a system's thermal energy for conversion into mechanical work, often interpreted as the degree of disorder or randomness in the system.

As the available energy for work decreases the amount of work that can be done over any given unit of time decreases until it reaches an infinitesimal amount.; rendering existence either static or "non"existent

Gravity and entropy are two different things, and we [do] understand gravity, to think otherwise is ignorance, it is more proper to say that while we understand gravity's effects and causes, we have yet to discover a simple means of manipulating it in a manner similar to the electromagnetic fields.

    No, because finite data storage
Like it or not, the human brain is a data storage system, as such it has certain physical constraints on its upper storage limits. Once again referencing entropy (as it takes energy to use or retrieve the data, that places a maximum data storage per volume equivalent to the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bekenstein_bound; as the human brain is not a perfect data storage system and it is not a black hole, we can expect that data limit to be somewhat below that value. Which on a practical level, means that you will reach a point where not only do you forget things, but you must forget things in order to input new information, leading to discontinuity of self rendering the entity in the corporeal form difference that the original entity, (immortality of the flesh but death of self), and that isn't factoring in the poor fidelity of the human memory storage system to begin with.

    No, because of politics
Given a long enough time line you will reach a point when the number of consumers (increasing the system entropy of earth) exceeds the ability of the producers (those decreasing the entropy of earth by acquiring new resources) to keep up, resulting in a political divide between those who do not contribute who want to live forever, and those who do. The most logical thing to do would be to extend immortality only to those who produce, possibly in increments, so that only the top 10% of the most entropic negative citizens are granted life extension, while the entropic positive citizens do not receive an extension. The flaw of course, is that the individuals who make the lists of things that are entropic negative will perforce list listing lists as negative, furthering a cadre of corrupt bureaucrats. Unless you leave it up to a computer, in which case you have to watch the programmers bias. In short imagine a world where Einstein lived forever, conversely imagine a world where Hitler and Genghis khan lived forever. Choosing who will live and who will die is the worst and most dangerous level of politics you can get involved in.
