In what setting is The Inverted Dragon’s Scale

So as I've been reading Inverted dragon's scale the novel has been dropped and picked up and there are multiple people translating it now(?).
Regardless of my confusion about the translators what I'm confused about now is the translation.
Generally I understand that the story is set in a more modern/Xuanhuan environment but I don't know exactly how modern we're talking now, this is because some of the translations use more modern terms like cars and cinema while the others have more dated terms like carriages and plays.

I guess I'm searching for some clarification or making this a talking point.

 

It's a fictional story I doubt any of it's history is based on the current times.

 

It is supposed to be based off of ancient China, but the recent chapters have mentioned modern things alot...

 

Yeah this is the point that I was confused on, because in some of the translations things are described with more of an eastern and dated wording, while other translations use words like car and television and pajama.
That was an incredible disconnect for me and it was pretty confusing so I was wondering which one is it.
And if the proper connotation is the one where things are more ancient chinaesque then is it incorrect to translate it with the more modern terms?

 

Well, the current translator is using MTL so it wouldn't be surprising if some thing were mixed up.

Haven't read the latest chapter. I don't know about the current translator, but the previous one used MTL.
