    I was just wondering because there seems to be a lot of hype about the novel I'm Really A Superstar and I was just wondering before I pick it up if I need to know ANYTHING about movies, dramas, songs, etc. from wherever he is, because I don't, and I don't want to start a novel just to drop it from a lack of a reference point(s).

    unless youre familiar with chinese poetry, all of them will be a foreign language when describing how well known they are. but you can just disregard that and enjoy the poetry.

    bro,it's speaking about chinese dramas,songs etc.do you know chinese?and don't bother,they authors and translators are explaining about the in the work so just go read!!!what are you waiting for?

    In all seriousness, the author explains all that needs to be explained and the translator expands on it with links or small translation notes. Just keep an open mind and try to understand what you can and accept what you cannot since the difference in language and culture will prevent you from understanding everything but not to the point where you will be lost. The novel is fun and definitely worth reading (y).

    I don't even really care for poetry and I still think it's hilarious.
    Recognizing all of the references would at most add an extra layer to the comedy.

    Misunderstanding is high in this one, where did I say the translations are bad? I said some jokes are bad because they can't cross languages and cultures, a joke is not a good joke if it needs to be explained..
