It's impossible, but maybe about 10 years later where quantum computing become common that will be possible
probably be the size of a small two story building like the first computer had been ... just for one person
Right now, connecting wires to brain = bad things happen. While we can reproduce the effects that are needed (disassociating brain stem from body, controlling prosthetics with nerves), it's not in a reliable and reversible way so I would say no. I mean, I get that you shouldn't need a direct connection, but until we can redirect the signals that move the body, then you're going to continue bumping into walls when the VRMMORPG is showing you a clear path...
haven't read World Online, but if it is like all the other full dive VRMMO stories, I would think it would take at least 2-3 decades minimum to create something safe enough to use
Full dive no but full body control is possible but it takes about a 10 sq foot room a suspension rig and a full body suit
I'd lean this way. Once quantum computing is cracked, it should be quite possible. But with current technology? No, it's probably functionally impossible. They'd likely have to get regular VR to a much higher level before even considering full dive.
It is possible but not in the "near" future. I mean we have the basics for thought controlled prosthetics, VR is getting better and better and we are learning more and more about how the brain works and perceptions.
If the world really is the matrix. Then we are currently in a similar full dive vrmmo right now. All of us sleeping in a pod filled with goo somewhere.
As what we have now, even after hundred years its kinda impossible. Were still in the realm of controllers and keyboards.
no, you cannot connect people to computers. And our VR sucks. The best it can do is somewhat imitate 3d with the headset. Also it is impossible to create anything resembling true AI atm
Certainly not possible. There is no technology, conceivable or imaginable that allows full dive right now or the next decade. We don't even know how our brains work, much less creating a technology that takes our consciousness into a computer. Technology aside, you need to take into consideration the ethics of a technology that hooks directly to your brain and takes your consciousness into a computer. Using the same technology, you can brainwash people into believing what is not true. Such a technology would be a holy grail for terrorist cults and the military to create a fanatic and completely single-minded killing machine who can't tell that killing children and committing genocide is wrong. Will we ever get full dive? Let's just say that full dive is a soft sci-fi. As in we want it to exist, but we have no knowledge of how it can exist and therefore, we make speculations of how it can exist in our fictions. It is not possible for you to ever experience full dive within your human lifetime.
Just regular VR like the Vive, Index, or Rift is about the best you'll find. It'll be like that for a long time. There's been some research into ultrasound to reproduce tactile effects to add the sense of touch to games, but it's nowhere near ready. Getting taste and scent added will likely require some type of direct nerve stimulation, or you'd have to refill taste and scent cartridges on a regular basis. In any case, no. It won't happen anytime soon.
Of course it is possible, just need to create all the technology and hardware necessary for such experience.
Personally, I find such posts disturbing(maybe too strong a word). No matter how great full dive seems, real boobs are better Don't you agree fellow daoist? @elengee Jokes aside games are usually used to escape reality. The older I have become, the more I have preferred reality and strived to improve it instead of escaping. Peace!
yeah for at least i stopped gaming but there is a question that is when that will happen ? when will that happens i will be dead but may be my great great grand children will have it ? at like 2400 ?
