Is it reincarnation if...?

Ok... So I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but imma ask anyways. Is it really reincarnation if you take over another's body?

Like how the MC goes into another world but they live in another person's body (recently dead, usually died pitifully). Isn't that just possession? Idk, but if it's not, then what do you call that?

Well reincarnation means a new life in a new body, so by that definition taking over someone's body in a different time/world would be reincarnation.

 

I think it technically counts under reincarnation if you think of Reincarnation as the "cycle in which one life becomes another".

I think it depends on how you define reincarnation.

that's the first definition i got from google. It kind of fits but i'm not sure if rebirth means you're supposed to have a 'clean slate' no memories etc.

Reincarnation is much easier for people to understand than something like transmigration, you instantly know something about the book by reading the tag reincarnation. Reincarnation is the name of a tag/genre, and even if the novel itself bends slightly what is and what isn't reincarnation, the tag serves it's purpose of giving the reader an idea of what happens.

 

If we base it on Hinduism, the actual religion where it originated, then reincarnation is when a person either a brahma or a peasant dies and reincarnates into a new form/body without any memories whatsoever of their previous lives (not so sure bout that part). Anyone can reincarnate countless times depending on their personalities. Peasants who lived as good people will reincarnate into better people until they became brahmas, and brahmas ascend to Nirvana. The cycle continues. But evil people will reincarnate into lesser and lesser beings until they become as insignificant as dust. Karma also plays a role but meh, I'm not a Hindu, in fact I'm a catholic xD

Reincarnation = cycle of REBIRTH
transmigration = soul moving to another body after death
Possession = when a spirit/soul/demon/god takes control of a body


Reincarnation = transmigration
Possession (depending on situation) = transmigration
Reincarnation does not equal to possession


So basically, its all a form of transmigration

 

I think possesing is akin to a ghost taking over a person's life body.. dont think taking over a person's dead body count as possesion anymore.

I think the tag is being used fine. Suddenly remebering a past live when you hit your head or suddenly waking up with a differnt set of memories can both be considerd reincartetion. I mean how does the MC determine that that his soul isnt the same one as the one he had yesterday. All he has is a diffrent set of memories.
