I started this thread because there are novelupdates staff members that believe that this is not a harem(for some reason) and I disagree. They is not willing to change the tag to I am just going to ask another staff member to change it.

Novel's Extra is a harem, no doubt about it. There are multiple girls who like the MC through the story.

 

if that's your definition of a harem then sure, but maybe there's a better term for this type of situation? when did harem go from "women of a polygamous male" to "a bunch of girls that likes a single male"?

I mean, I guess you can say that actors and celebrities have harems too? Somehow that doesn't apply...

Have not read the novel. But since A Certain Magical Index (which I think is not really a harem [only watched the anime]) is listed as a harem in Wikipedia. I guess the Novel's Extra could be a harem(?).

It's been a while since the end of The Novel's Extra, but as far as I remember, he was just very friendly towards most of the girls, but it wasn't really a harem.

 

First of all, for it to be harem the genre, the ones who have to fall in love with the MC have to be significant characters. If they are passerby characters than no. But if there are multiple male leads and they have more than 1 or 2 chapters to themselves, then yes it would be a reverse harem.

And in the case of Novel's Extra, 90% of the female character's plot revolve around the MC. It's harem, just not slice of life harem.

I mean literally, the MC in terms of romance is like bakarina triggering all their flags due to misunderstandings.

 

It's not a relationship until the feeling is returned. In the case that HaJin has many people who like him but he does not return their feelings, it is not an official romantic relationship. Harem refers to multiple romantic relationships, thus if HaJin only advances his romantic relationship with one girl, it isn't harem.
