Like the tittle said, is there any way for the site protection to allow VPN? Not neccesarily removed it, but lessen it so user with VPN can access it. Its really suck for people in Asia, aka the continent of censorship. Everything is censored here, and the use of VPN is a norm for everyone (at least in my community). What's your idea for this? Im not a tech person so I don't know much, but cloudflare seems to allow VPN.
How about changing your VPN setting instead? It's probably cause whatever region you're using is also blocking.
I didn't say I can't visit NU without VPN, Im talking about how I can't visit NU with VPN because of security. I always use VPN since a lot of other website are getting blocked, but NU in my experience didn't allow user with VPN to enter. Now, I can enter it by turning off the vpn, but its such a hassle turning it off just for this site.
You're probably using some free VPN that easily gets abused by bots and such. Try a different provider. Perhaps a paid one (less abuse).
It's a necessary evil, or we'd be facing higher chances of NU going down, and worse if Tony was sleeping at the time...
IIRC, Novel Updates uses cloudflare's more enthusiastic protections when its experiencing an uptick in bot traffic and the servers are becoming stressed. This is a case of the few ruining things for the many, I suppose - it's absolutely necessary, simply because of a few idiots scraping the site with bots or, god forbid, actually trying to DDOS it instead of doing so accidentally. You should be able to use a VPN when this isn't happening. ... Honestly, it's best to ask @Tony these things. He's the one managing the servers and cloudflare, and he's the one who'll know best why your VPN isn't working and what, if anything, we can do about it.
This is my two cents. I recall I read Cloudflare's blog article about how they started using machine learning to sort out incoming IP traffics by score of some sort. If you're using free VPN and somehow get blocked by Cloudflare, chances are the IP used by your VPN provider has a low reputation on their database because some other users been using it for shady practices on Cloudflare networks, and their algorithm deems it bad enough for the said VPN to be put in their list of untrusted IPs. Try connect your VPN from different location or simply try other VPN providers. Cloudflare doesn't block VPN by default, only VPNs with questionable history.
