Discussion Is there a clan or sect that doesn't suck?

While reading the I Shall Seal the Heavens East Victory arc, I just couldn't understand the MC's desire to associate with a group where the leadership treated him in such a manner. I was surprised and haven't enjoyed the last 10 chapters at all.

I felt the same about World of Cultivation's sect and I just couldn't understand why these MCs were so desperate for inclusion into groups that treated them so poorly. I was so happy when the MC,

got ruthlessly abandoned.

Maybe I'm weird. (Geez, fuck those guys.)

I'm not talking about jealous rivals or bullies. It just seems so common for the leader of the MCs clan/sect to be the antagonist, while the MC is desperate to stay. Is this a cultural thing? Elder approval?

Anyways, that got me thinking. Were there any clans or sects, I didn't hate or was indifferent about.

I could only come up with 1, the sect from A Thought Through Eternity. (They are saints for not murdering him, lol.)

To be honest clan/Sect ties are thicker than blood....you can denounce your blood brother but not your sect

In ISSTH it's because his father asked him to join his clan, not because he really wanted to go there.
And frankly his situation in the clan get a lot better afterward

And the main reason why MCs join sects in novels is ressources, things that they would never be able to find or earn except with plot armor and randomness manipulation by the writer

 

What about the one from TTNH? It's pretty chill.

Also latter in ISSTH he gets into another nice clan. By the way please put spoilers into spoilers @Crimshine , everyone isn't reading the chapters as they come out and I sure didn't.

 

If I were to recommend a purely cultivation novel for those not really into cultivation novels, It woul be Thought from Eterntity. It is one of the few laugh out loud books on this site. That and my disciple died again, but that is somewhat of a gag novel.

 

Because even though clans tend to be exploitative of their lower-level members, they also concentrate all resources related to cultivation?

ISSTH - reliance sect ... Though its founder aim actually opposite

Sect is a collection of different people... So it is hard to say it will remain good nature meanwhile clan/family relies heavily on their unity between family member. Ignore young noble who usually blind, patriarch often describe or written with something related about their family unity... Or others would trample them

Also, by "better" you mean they are no longer trying to kill him and are now in imprisoning him? Forcing him to pay billions of spirit stones, to decide his own fate, when a couple months earlier, they wouldn't' have cared if he lived or died.

Yeah, I have a major issue with sects as well. Most are downright self-destructive in how they operate (example;letting young geniuses be killed off, not because their talent is less, but because they haven't trained as long. Even an untalented but older member could kill off the most prodigous genius in history, and the sect wouldn't care if he didn't enter via connections. They would just take it as him not being talented enough to survive)

BTTH's? He was the heir, and his father treated him well even when he couldn't cultivate, right?
Desolate Era, the Ji Clan was also not bad. And so was his first Dao Father master's.
In TDG, MC's hometown had one traitorous family, but the rest seemed all right.
In the place he ascended to, the sects aside from the one he joined were peaceful. Iirc, he wanted to join his particular sect because it was the only one that needed saving...
Stellar Transformations... MC's family was also supportive of him even when they thought he was a 'cripple'. Later on, he doesn't really join any sects. He tries to get in his father-in-law's good books, but he was quite decisive when his father-in-law became unreasonable.
And ISSTH, the sect where Meng Hao first learned alchemy. They were kinda unreasonable at first, but not too much.
