It's mentioned in ch 6 as if the Emperor and his half-brother who should've inherited the throne have a good relationship, and the brother stepping down willingly (how much of that is true we do not know) But yes, the political scene has not done much good for Isaac. He can't even give up his inheritance, because the Count's political enemies wouldn't want the Count's grandson to have it instead; which, to me, seems to be a plot device. Hard to believe that with Isaac's insistence that he doesn't want it, Mazelan's help and with all the power and influence the Count possesses, it seems weird they wouldn't be able to, together, be able to pass up his inheritance (noble title).
There is also the issue of Isaac being alive. If he is still alive, there will always be people using his name to cause shit for the count. And not to mention that if Mazelan gets dragged into the shitstorm, his opponents will jump right into the opposition side (wanting Isaac to bear the shit). So Isaac being dead is the better way for the count, as dead people = not so useful. The people who want Isaac to be up there are not nice too, they either want him to die straight after he is up there or control him like a puppet. Basically, these people are just using Isaac to stop the count for more power. In short, everyone in background is a shitter and Isaac is getting the crap. One way for Isaac to smack them, win by his own efforts and shut them up. Which will then lead to everyone, the count and the "supporters", to kill Isaac because "a mudblood should behave like a mudblood" noble shitty thinking.
Yeah, I can't see this ever ending well for Isaac. Which is sad, but I guess what also drives the novel forward. If Isaac got what he wanted, we'd timeskip straight to his death at 85
I don't really see them going the mud blood being mud blood route though, or at the very least it being the pivotal plot point. I think it would be along the lines of reward for good work is more work, where they dispatch him to do more ridic shit given that he managed to clean up NPC therefore showing his potential hence = more usability for the higher ups. Which fits in to what the current scheme anyway because currently for the powers that be that is helping isaac, either he fails or he succeeds, they will profit both ways.
