    Duolingo is not really effective to learn japanese since japanese language system is so complex with their kunyomi and onyomi. My advice to you is starting from this site https://www.jlptstudy.net/N5/ i assumed you have memorized about hiragana and katakana already, try to memorize all n5 kanjis, then after that learn n5 grammar and verb conjugation.

    Keep fighting once you get the hang of it, you will realize that japanese is actually easy. The real major bottleneck is memorizing thousands of kanjis. Also try memorizing kanji with james heisig's remembering the kanji. Its a very unique book on memorizing kanji pattern.
