School education is overrated, they won't teach you anything besides the bare minimum (if even that) and it's mostly rote memorization which you'll forget over the years anyway. If you actually want to learn something your "real" options are vigorous self-study or hiring a tutor.

More on topic-ish, I used to, read books or sleep during class and join in with the guys playing PC games (we had installed CSS and warcraft 3 on the main system so it was accessible to all school computers). Often blatantly ignored the teachers and didn't do the majority of homework (only time I'd do something was when I was in groups since it feels kind of bad to let down your pals even if you know it's mostly rubbish which won't matter on the grading)

Of course the teachers would complain but as long as you make the tests they can't really fail you, especially not when there's supposedly "hard working" students who score lower than you.

Now I'm not really advocating to not study, but to be perfectly honest you'll probably have more to take away from just reading books and if you do actually want to study I wouldn't put my hopes on what's only meant to make you pass with the bare minimum, and lots of it you'll even have to unlearn to learn the real thing later too.

I thought Tolkien's works are considered classic? If she gets mad at you, just explain that you're reading a derivative of his work (because, really, that's what 90% of the current high fantasy novels are). Or, if you're reading sci-fi, say that it's related to Asimov's work.

As long as you make it sound convincing enough, she'll let you go.

Regulations, yes. Things to teach, yes. Methods of evaluating if students absorb information, yes. Little innovation?
    HECK NO.
If you think it is boring to listen to a class taught without any passion, just imagine what it is like to TEACH that same lesson several times a day. Teachers don't teach for their paychecks, I can tell you that. I've had teachers play games of Jeopardy with in-class topics for candy prizes, have watched movies and write evaluations based on what was taught, and and even had competitions with building rubber-band cars for competition. There are ways to teach wrongly, and ways to teach CORRECTLY.
Learn to ask better questions. Try asking to-the-point leading questions yourself speed things along. Take some initiative. And higher level courses are faster.
There is no ethical method of countering the birthrate issue. I guess the banning of porn in schools is to discourage reproduction in a way. Let's not talk about overpopulation, since that is a very nasty can of worms no one wants to talk about.
I said it was a privilege. I dunno, keeping people stupid and willing to believe anything that is said to them has its perks. Teaching people they have rights as a citizen does prevent government from essentially abusing the individual. In USA, Miranda Rights are important for a reason. And staying stupid means you have less ideas to play with for entertainment.

And that is why forming logical arguments should be taught.

I just downloaded something that allowed me to bypass their server blocks. Forgot what it was called, but like all the kids in my school got it, and saved it in a flashdrive, making their firewalls and stuff useless. Ahh, those were the days

... No. I'm talking as if having slightly educated citizens is generally a good idea, and one that governments encourage when they can. At the very least, governments that require their citizens to do more than farm the land and live in wooden huts. Because, turns out, people that don't learn to read and write find it somewhat difficult to perform jobs that require reading and writing.

It does have perks, but they're ultimately shallow perks. An educated person can do much more for you, and your country.

Forget the citizen's rights. It's in the country's best interests to have educated citizens.

But yes. I agree that in countries where citizen rights are held in high esteem, it is even more important for a citizen to be educated. Hence, it is even more of a national obligation, and less of a privilege. Either way, it has very little to do with you as an individual, and everything to do with the country's needs.

The only real thing school offer is the social interaction (which admittedly is more important than it's oftentimes given credit) and the bare minimum "education" i.e. rote memorization.

I'm sorry. You're thinking of college, aren't you? I wasn't talking about higher education. College teachers usually have a great deal more freedom in how they teach their subjects. It's much more flexible. Attending college is also more of a privilege, one you definitely have to work for, and a personal decision.

I think of college as more of the "education beyond school" that I said should be encouraged.

So education without having to pay, thus being limited in methods of how to teach is bad, and education you have to get student loans for is good? I'm getting mixed messages with what you are trying to say is the ideal for education here...
