If only they do the same to EA.

As things continue on this direction wont they violate gambling laws? It comes under the purview of the Gaming commision right?

Capitalism is the rule now, they who make the rules make it for those in power with money, not for the citizens well being. I doubt anything will change. They can do what they want because no one can stop them, despite the cry of out rage.

What, even the odd has been registered below 0.1%
Will dat stop cashier from buying it?
It's thier choice for to buy or not to buy
And if even the registered odd saying 1% for dat sweet2 skin. Some random luck ass will get it in 3 try without buying and u get nothing by buying 100 chest is obviously normal

Why are governors talking about the ESRB as if they have any power? The reason why 12 year olds aren't able to buy R rated games is because the people selling the games (game stop, amazon, steam etc), choose themselves to follow the ESRB rating guidelines, they hold no legal power. (well, without their parents or a nice gamestop clerk kek)

TLDR: It's not ILLEGAL for a 12 year old to buy call of duty.

In other news, ESRB said lootboxes are fun and definitely not gambling.

It breaks my heart how many games have been ruined by greedy executives forcing developers to add loot boxes in one way or another, even when it makes absolutely no sense in the context of the game. People tolerated FIFA because it mimicked the IRL football card pack model, people also tolerated Overwatch because it was all purely cosmetic and not solely obtainable through micro-transactions. The shit they did in Star Wars: Battlefront 2, and in most MMOs today, is indefensible though. It is both game-breaking, and insulting to the players who legitimately put hours into these games.

I've personally been against any form of microtransaction for a long time. The only time I've ever bought any was for a Fire Emblem game and I don't think I will ever do so again. I'm also against pokemon on that front. I firmly believe that a game should have all it's content all the time, and not depend on buying multiple copies, or developers and/or publishers being willing to maintain websites or whatever in order for you to get everything the game has to offer.

They are talking about it because if the ESRB doesn't take actions to regulate it's manipulative practices they will, in which case it may become illegal for a 12 year old to buy call of duty.

ESRB does not have regulatory powers though? At the end of the day, all they can do is rate the games higher and hope that stores either 1. don't stock them or 2. stop selling them to kids.

    Heh.
Relax. It's just lootboxes. Nothing new.
You should be thankful that they doesn't have a price tag on a f**king save slot. Yet.

The ESRB and the ESA were made by the game company's they work for them so they're not going to do anything other than put on a show until the government does something.

Most stores apparently don't stock games rated AO so by giving games with overly manipulative micro-transactions that rating they would, in theory at least, effectively regulate it. The point is though that if someone doesn't start regulating it, the government will.

Honestly I'm starting to like EA and other companies for their bullshit ways. Not for the lootbox or any of that stuff of course, but because they make meme worthy quotes, trying to defend their BS. "Pride and Accomplishment", was one now, they have "I can't answer that".

Now a days I consider EA, Activision-Blizzard, Bungie, and other AAA developers and publishers not as companies but as meme-making machine.
