This is a thread to discuss the novel "Kill the Villainess". I know many fans of this work would like to discuss Helena among other things so I decided to create a place for them to do so.

    Novel Link: https://www.novelupdates.com/series/kill-the-villainess/
    Spoiler thread link: https://forum.novelupdates.com/threads/kill-the-villainess.118265/

    Description

    “You… who are you?”

She was possessed by the villainess in the novel. When her fiancé, the crown prince, married their childhood sweetheart, Helena, she poisoned her to death. From the moment she realized she was possessed, “I” have only one goal: to escape the world in this novel. She tried to escape this world, even if it meant dying, but the world wouldn’t let her. But when she refused to follow the path of ‘Eris’ in the original story, the men who had ignored and persecuted her began to beg for her attention and affection.

    “Who are you?”

Asked the priest who brought Helena back to life, and the hero who swore her eternal love.

    “You have changed.”

And the Crown Prince who won Helena’s heart.

It was a new question. They didn’t even care about Eris.

She ‘the new Eris’ didn’t feel attached as time passed. She had no confidence in loving this world.

Damn whatever réason Helena has, it is never good when someone got slapped in front of your face for helping u standing up and u only stood there like "oh what to do? They has misleading" instead of trying to stopp or explain. To me she is white lotus, she doesnt know what is distance between men and women, when u come near and play with men and expected that they consider u only friend instead of romance relationship??? What kind of bitch she is. It is fine u are naive but u are close to someone fiance and even sit next to him whatever u have tea party, sorry but even a commoner should know about the ettique unless u have "bitch gene" in your blood and didnt realize u are stealing s.o else fiance, if u said u cant help but except him, why dont u try first to isolate urself from him, instead of running into his arm????
I am happy our mc go back to her world, i hope she reunite to the escort, and it is exhausted to deal with some stupid morons and try to talk by human language to them like the prince =) my blood boiled when i saw him slapped her. How come a person who is stupid like that, is the male lead in novel ?????

Yeah It's frustrating that she didn't defend Eris and just stand there without saying anything.

I'm kind of curious about the Prince because according to the spoilers eventually he'll be interested with Eris. So what happened to Helena?

Or is he the kind of bastard that thinks he can both keep the women. :blobangery:

    Helena is hypocrite.
She wants to be friends with MC but when prince is mocking MC ,helena doesn't utter a word .

I read spoilers that prince forced Helena to marry him . Because she is a mere maid she couldn't go against him.Does she remember that she is a maid then after all the things happened.

If prince really like Helena he should break engagement, instead of mocking her.

Someone has to install some commonsense in their brains.

tbh, i don't think there's a better reason than because he's a fool who obsessed with helena. in the og story, og eris is someone who destined to die miserably to glorify the main couple. it's bold of me to say something like this just after only 10 chapters tho.

as for me, indeed she's a pitiful kid. but at least she has to properly aware about her action as well as how it'll affect her surroundings. yes, cp let her to be informal towards him (and probably towards other people too, including other aristocrats around them). but it's only from the cp, others won't easily think the same. she's currently a commoner, it's a basic courtesy to be formal and polite to everyone whose standing is higher than her. if she's afraid of cp, she could be informal towards other just if the crown prince is around. again, yeah she's pitiful, she's not even someone with bad personality. that's why i really hope she gets some character development in the future chapters.

Reading this really makes me want to see all of them suffer, minus FL and ML.

Didn't know that trying your absolute best to help your partner and feeling upset when it's unappreciated such a fucking a crime. I dont care what author does to to make the other 3 ML and Helena seem more likeable, and especially Helena, she acts like she cares but when it's infront of her face she doesn't do anything but unintentionally act like a victim. Bitch gene indeed. Sudden interest and change of behaviour for a couple weeks, maybe months isn't going to change how you treated someone for years. They are all bums forreal. Hope yall never find happiness

Finally, someone said it. She's being 'forced' to marry the crown prince because she's a mere maid, a mere commoner who have no choice. I get that some character could get obsessive about their love, and maybe the crown prince is one of them. But judging from everything, all this time she has been living as the prince playmate, does she ever suffer?

From what I see, she's happy, she never has to go through queen education to become empress, everybody loves her, her status as commoner free her from dilly dally of noble, the prince and everyone around her always on her side and cater her whim. Rather than being forced, she's just quietly enjoying everything bestowed to her. Her tragic past and her present happiness have no correlation in my opinion. It doesn't make her a better person either. She keeps disregarding everything around her and doing everything she wants despite other people opinion. We could see this from how she kept disregarding her status as a maid and commoner in front of Eris, who already told her repeatedly that she needs to keep up her etiquette around her.

Her closeness with the prince may be forced by the prince, but if she really wants to, she could speak up PROPERLY for Eris every time the prince verbally assault her, and as far as the story I read, I never saw any instance where Helena acknowledge how inappropriate the crown prince actions towards her and Eris and comfort her, like what she would do to any other character that been 'healed' by her smile. She's been living in the palace for years, she KNOWS Eris is the crown prince fiancee, she had been together with them many times to witness how discomfiting their relationship is, but not even once she ever offers any kind words to Eris about the crown prince treatment? Every time they're together, she just keeps the 'I want to be your friend even though you don't want me to' trope while ignoring the real problems why Eris doesn't like her.

She knows the crown prince like her (come one, his actions are clear, especially if compared to the crown prince attitude to Eris, the disparities are f:pcking big, and there's no way she accepts his advance in the original story if she never knows about his feelings), and she did nothing to stop it. She may be pressured to accept his love, but she didn't do anything to stop it either. And to keep trying to be friends with someone whose beloved fiancee apparently in love with you? As I said selective idiocy.

And through all of this, the prince is just a f:pcking cowards, cause he knows the moment he moves outside his grandfather's (aka The Emperor) plan, he'll get killed likes his father did. That's why the only way to release his pent up frustration is by tormenting the person who he sees as someone who aids his grandfather plan directly, which is Eris, by verbally and now physically assaulting her, knowing that she loved him and won't do anything to him. He's a disgusting creature, honestly, I hope I could add vasectomy to his ending so he won't procreate and teach his descendant the same mentality.

Oh god I knew people would still hate on helena even when she was literally forced into it.

Never change folks. Hosently at this point its almost endearing to see people hate on anyone besides the MC and then claim that they are not like the sheeple who would read the OG novel and mindlessly hate on the villaness.

We all know if most of this thread did read the Og novel theyd be the same people hating on eris while fellating Helena

Does everyones smpathy only stop at the Mc? Like for fucks sale. I don't think anyone gets hoe.jard this for a commoner to speak up? "Hurrr durr why didnt she tell anyone"????. Oh good Idea yea let's speak out against a psycho who's the son of another psycho who's the most powerful In the land. Like the dude isnt afraid to hit women. We know hes a cray cray

And do you guys hear yourself "she looks happy even in a forced relationship so that means she is" uh alot of people in abusive relationship dont show it. Do me a favor and never try to comfort an abused personally. Youd probably say to theres face they wernt abused cause they didnt speak up or look happy to be with the person

Its most suprises me that of you are women but use the same excuses abuse deniers use I'm real life. Bone chilling

I don't like Helena because she's freaking DULL. She's just another typical shojou heroine who sits around simpering and sighing and pining and getting people to rescue her from danger instead of, you know, doing anything on her own.

If I bothered to read the original novel -- which I probably wouldn't, because I can't stand "heroines" or "heroes" that sit around waiting to be rescued by other people -- I would probably still root for the "villainess" because at least the villainess characters are interesting and often tragic figures in their own right. At least they have agency and actively try to get what they want in life, instead of just passively sitting around, smiling and being loved, just waiting for someone to rescue them from trouble.

I don't hate Helena (even if her dumb-arsery annoys me) but I'm not in the least interested in her as a character. She's just an interchangeable widget of a "heroine," whereas Eris and the soul that took over her is intriguing, fascinating, and honestly tragic. Of course I'd rather read about Eris/the soul, rather than Helena!

helena is a product of her novel and a commoner. Commoners dont have the luxury of doing what they want like high ranking nobles. Shes probably.has a nice personality becausae she was raised to please nobles. Which is bad in itself. Her mom should have raised her away from this buffoonery. I don't think nobles and commoners should he friends honesty

I know that sounds wrong but hear me out. There too much of a power imbalance and in most cases these friendships cant be sincere. Then we have the exact situation in the novel. The commoner being forced to do something they dont want to by the noble

Um, I think you mistook 'forced' with 'abuse' here.
And because we are women, we are all about women supporting women. But does Helena ever does that to Eris who she claims her friend? She has been ignoring how her so-called friend being verbally assaulted and ignored on every occasion for years. I don't think except being forced to live a life full of loves and luxury, the author or anyone in the story ever wronged Helena in every turn.

So it's impossible for commoners to be clever or to have an interesting POV or to be more careful in the way they maneuver in the world?

Sorry but I completely reject the idea that Helena can't have any agency just because of her ranking. There have been some very cool and interesting stories about low-ranking commoner girls/women/heroine who manage to still achieve their goals in a cut-throat world, with or without a golden finger.

But at the end of the day... Helena is designed (as far as I can tell from the first 10 or so volumes) to be a heroine who just sits around passively waiting for people to decide her life, doom her, and/or rescue her. Which, fine, maybe she has some reasons to be that way. But that doesn't make her a compelling person or figure to follow... and naturally, most readers would rather root for an active, complex figure like Eris -- who has her own challenges in the world, who goes deeply unappreciated for all her hard work, and who ends up doomed because she can't win the love of a massive jerk -- against Helena.

Active protagonists/characters who do their best to rescue themselves from danger despite the odds are far more interesting than passive, dull ones who win love by... I dunno... handing out cookies and smiles or whatever. No wonder most of us are rooting for Eris and her "rider"!

She did try to stop the primce. Ajay more could she do. Jutsu hkm into the groindnwosh)

I know typical might motnuabe meant ot but alot of your rrasoimgk alone on bow sje should
Well In the end its up to the writer to make a character interesting. Unfortunately Korean novels only make the MC/ML have an actual personality maybe for the exact reason you said So its easier for readers to root for the MC

Helena does have a good backstory but its disappointing to hear that the author dodnt do anyhting interesting with her for 10 book and made her another passive friend. Ah well. I will eat my shoe if I ever find a KR novel where the side characters are as complex and interesting as the MC

You do know a froced relationship is abuse? You can read studies on it

Having no say in a relationship is not healthy at all

And just because someone has luxury still dosent make the abusive relationship okay

You can have all the gold in the world but if the relationship is toxic you'll be miserable

Look at diana or markle for instance

And what would Helena have done? She did speak up as she could in her position. Shes the child of a nanny and the prince who's the son of a dude who killed his own kid is obsessed with her. That is very dangerous. One wrong move and she can be executed

I think we could also agree that in recent years, the trope of the passive and helpless female protagonist has slowly being abandoned. It's not like we are as a market against hyper feminity or something, but I think it's because psychologically, we understand that in a society full of patriarchal influences, we are being forced to accept the reality many things just don't work because we are women which deemed weak and unreliable to live our own lives without the support of men, of course, we are trying to change that, but we are also trying to escape reality where we still have to live in this kind of society by projecting a more independent and strong female character in the story we read. That's, in my opinion, why we as readers are more inclined to the active protagonist or female character who could solve her problems beyond the limits of her gender.

Exactly this. I don’t understand why people don’t understand how hard it is for a COMMONER to go against a CROWN PRINCE who is using his status against her especially when they aren’t the mc. Most of the protagonists who are able to go against people in higher ranks are normally stronger than them physically or someone who is higher in ranking helps them or they have connections to higher people. Helena doesn’t have that access

The reason why a lot of these women are able to do that without repercussions is because they are the mc. They have plot armor which a side character doesn’t have. I know Helena was the original mc but the characters have changed and she’s no longer the mc .

Exactly we see this in real life too with booses who harass there employees while the employees are afraid too speak up. And we have more protections and support too yet it still happens. What chance does a teenager in a medieval bumfuck have

I mean so many movels have yandere ML but the MC goes around collecting anl harem. I don't think it's as much as he alters her meet as much as the plot forces them into coincidental situationd where they meet. And is he possessive honestly? He dosnet seen like that type of yandere

And the spoiler literally said that she was forced into a relationship. So honestly the theory of him just ist being the best choice is wrong lol. We can tell it was forceful since even the MC became cool with her in the end
And we know shes not the "forgive every action against me uwu" type

Yeah I do belive shes 100 percent blameless and helpless. Again crown prince who's an asshole is shown to hit women forced her into a relationship.

I dint know about the friendship. Maybe she feels guilty about the situation or something whicj makes her wanna befriend her? But wernt they friends before according to the spoilers?

I don't think I can compare 'force' with 'abused'. And in the end Helena did somehow love the prince according to spoiler ofcourse. I think this kind of plot is usual in shoujo mangas/manhwas.

Because the prince didn't torture or hurt Helena. He is just a possessive love sick moron. If he threatened Helena if she ever leave him, he'll kill her lol well... That's wrong. But according to the spoilers he just forced Helena to love him back.

I do think Helena really loves or she has a little tiny bit of feelings for the prince but she couldn't express her feelings because she's a commoner and he has a fiance. That's the usual plot in some stories. Because in the end she did love the prince back.

whatever the reason for taking someone else's lover is wrong, what else does Helena think that Eris is a friend? friends can't possibly betray their friends. I really hate the story where OG FL grabs a lover or fiancee or husband from FL who is said to be a criminal.
