Anyone out there who's into wars and strategic battles, politics, and with a pinch of the authority-hungry protagonist, PLEASE help. I don't know, I guess, I just somehow got really into wars and politics. I know I can read world history, cause Jesus Christ, real life can be way more fucked up and interesting than fiction, which I do, I read the news, ya, and there's some pretty crazy stuff out there. On another note, have you guys ever gotten involved in a conspiracy of some sort, and what your experience with it was? So, ya, hope you guys could help by giving me recommendations and stuff. btw the painting is called 'The Third of May 1808' by Francisco Goya. This painting is one of the reasons I got into wars and all, so yeah.

There are a ton of really good ones out there written in Chinese. The problem is that very few get translated. I've got a bunch of suggestions if you're okay reading them in Chinese. I've read a bunch of fake historical novels that do this as well, but these tend to be a lot weaker than proper historical novels.
As usual for this kind of book, Yue Guan can't be beat: 回到明朝当王爷 This is the book that changed the way that Chinese historical novels are written. It's one of the richest stories I've ever read; in fact the only books that are as rich are other Yue Guan novels. 步步生莲 Much the same thing as above except that it's about the early Song dynasty and it's more about kingdom building and politics while facing off against much stronger enemies. 醉枕江山 This one takes place in the Tang dynasty and it's very in-depth look at the people and the politics of Wu Zetian's court. 重生之大科学家 For something a bit more modern, this book takes place at the end of the Qing dynasty and China's painful transition to becoming a republic. This book is written by a different writer and I'd say that it's not as good but I find the subject matter very interesting.

Dungeon Defense It has romance, but MC would ditch her if she stopped seeking authority. Talk about a power hungry MC...
回到明朝当王爷 步步生莲 醉枕江山 The best way to describe these protagonists is conniving. They're super clever people who have to constantly out think their opponents. As for what they do, an example is that the protagonist in the first book is known as the "Head-Chopper" for the masses of people he executes. 重生之大科学家 This protagonist starts off more interested in science and education but when he gets caught up in politics he doesn't hesitate in using military force.
For these type of novels, I don't recommend trying to MTL it unless you are a pro in understanding. It is very difficult to understand and it usually takes away the beauty of the storyline and novel. So I would recommend to read translated novels or wait for others. The word build is way too different. Just a suggestion though!
