Again? (this question is asked like every month)

But fine, I'd go with KR cause MC tends to be more grounded in reality. Isn't a clueless wimp nor a psychopathic mass murderer.

All of them has their own faults and merits that can make them either below or above the others, depending on the novels.

Well, I will side with JP novels since Anime/Manga/Novel.

KR for me. ... But, to be fair, it's only because the translators have shit taste. There are good CNs and JPs, too!

Also, my side wins this competition by default, because the top 4 novels on NU this month are KR.

welp, JP just cause all the translated or known novels out there have beta doesn't mean that alpha type MC do not exist. . . .

they have good flow in the story and are categorized so much that if you want a light read you can get one.

oh and they have almost every genre. . .

KR minus the sometimes racist novels.
JP should've won if not for 90% of MCs being walking vaginas (aka fucking pussies).
CN although good, can get tedious with thousands of chapters while KR or JP, although fewer chapters, have more word count, lesser word padding and a better planned ending (since JP and KR novels are unlikely to churn out thousands of chapters of filler for the money)

JP is a peaceful country so I can see why a lot of the mc aren't all that brave.

IDK man... A couple of big booms in the 40's and all of a sudden a nation tends to write more wimpy MC's into existence.
Not saying they are directly related, but a nation that is only allowed to have a self-defense force is gonna end up with wimpier MC's more often than nations with actual militaries, for example, you don't get any Japanese books with modern day military MLs like you do with China.

There are also very good Japanese books, don't get me wrong, but the trend is noticeable...

my answer depends entirely on what i'm reading. at the moment it's Chinese horror so my answer is Chinese. last month it was Korean rebirth/ revenge and my answer then was Korean. Japanese would be my least read since i got really burnt out on isekai and reborn as a game villainess stories a while back and that's pretty much all they translate...

A lot of it reflects the country itself. JP=is relatively peaceful and edges away from conflict. CN= is mostly about money and business so they pull a lot of shock factors, face slapping, and love. KN= is great with think more in-depth in life and connecting with the younger audience

I read KR too but for me there is no way I am rooting for something that I didn't read much from as translators fckin stop halfway through the novel so I a. Left hanging around an edgy cliff

    They have their own advantage

I refer KR because of their system and world are you my liking

JP have a great stories except their beta mc and their harem

CN have a long story, but you can easily guess what will happen, as their story are repetitive

But hey, sometimes you found a gem in a pile of trash

    Should read them all

I agree it is cultural, though I think it is a bit different from that. I think it stems from how their wish fulfillment works.

JP = has a lot of stress and wants to escape, so MC is a wimp living a slow life away from obligations.
CN = has high suppression from people with power, they want to break free of that suppression and get back at everyone who dared to suppress them. Thus the MC is an underdog who face slaps everyone above him till he becomes the ultimate being.
KR = KR society is very tailored towards being successful in business, their wish fulfillment revolves around money and gaining assets

Out of all those things, most people can emphasize with the KR protagonist who is more realistic, they don't want to crush society like a CN nor do they want to be passive like JP.

Another thing KR has going for it is that it is relatively new to the scene, so they haven't developed their tropes yet. (not saying there aren't KR tropes, but said tropes are not as prevalent as of yet). This makes the KR content quite fresh relatively.

You say it like JP novels aren't dropped half way and left unsubbed... do you know how many JP stuff have no translator midway?

There is always rainbow turtle, WW and now QI doing KR stuff that will finish things till the end.
