She is absolutely horrible in the WN. She's a great character and one of my favorites, but she is almost completely lacking in any form of redeeming characteristic.

Redeeming characteristics, like not letting a whole world die because of a power hungry idiot? All she had to do was ignore it, and nobody would have blamed her. Or giving a new chance at life to class full of people who died in an attempt at killing her? Granted, this really was her fault (in more ways than one), but not caring about the collateral damage is the classic villain mindset.
It's been some time since I last read the story, but her motivations and methods aside, just about everything she did was to help someone else. The only exception I can remember is her telling Kuro not to kill Potimas, because it will be more interesting that way.

Her only redeeming characteristic is more like she would help you if she thinks it would be amusing.
This is also one of her worst characteristics because for the same logic she would screw someone over for just a few laughs. And even if she does help you her help could be very questionable such as when she saved a planet but did it in a way that required everyone of the planet to be essentially be tortured. Forcing the people on the planet to constantly fight and basically forcing someone to be the power source and having to watch all of the fighting despite being a pacifist. Despite that fact that there were plenty of other methods she could have used that would have both been easier and better.

Well that's because her help is also an indictment of all those involved, make the pacifist watch all the violence that would have been avoided if she just dealt with the problem in the first place; make the people realize how much they were complicit in by just standing by pretending not to be able to save themselves; and make the wishy-washy dragon watch his loved one waste away because he refuses to go against her wishes even though it just makes her and all her children suffer.

Except none of those were ever D motivation. Her only motivation has always been for her own amusement. Whether you benefit from her actions are harmed by her actions is just a matter of luck.

It's also amusing to her to have their noses rubbed into the shit they've done.

The problem is that there is no indication that she gets greater joy from seeing people who deserve it suffer then seeing people who are innocent suffer.
Basically if her action causes someone who deserves it to suffer it just a coincidence.

    It's not. Its a cliff.
I think the author will post the remaining chapters a few days after the final volume of the LN is released, which should happen on January 8th.

That's what the Taboo is for, they feel the weight of their own sins, if it seems like too much they can sacrifice it to the Goddess.

You say that she only helps others if she finds it amusing, and while it's mostly true, that's not exactly the case. Creating the Wisdom skill for Kumoko, and including her guide for new gods in the system both seem like they would only lead to less amusement, not more.

They asked D for a rope to climb out of the hole they dug for themselves. D gave them the rope they wanted. Is it her fault, that they decided to hang themselves with said rope?
It's not the system that tortures them, it's the way they act within it. They are not forced to fight each other. They choose to. Kumoko even says this after learning the knowledge from Taboo.

D isn't the villain, the villains are everyone that let the situation get out of control forcing someone like D to intervene. i blame the Gods, dragons, potimas, and the pope.

What's your point. It doesn't change the fact that D doesn't care if the people she harms is guilty or innocent.
The only reason why she helped Kumoko was because D found her amusing and helping her could make things even more amusing. I don't see why you would think it would lead to less amusement.

The system purpose is to gather energy to restore the planet. The main way the system gather energy is for those in the system to fight each other so that their souls generate energy. If the system is not able to gather enough energy then the system won't be able to repair the planet or even maintain it. So yes those in the system need to fight each other to avoid the end of the world.

The reason I think her actions would lead to less amusement, is because Kumoko will have much more information, and thus won't stumble blindly around as much, thus leading to less amusement for D.

Yes, the purpose of the system is to gather energy, by having people fight. But not necessarily against each other. They can fight monsters, then retire, and die from old age in their beds. The system would get it's energy anyway. But they continue to wage war against each other instead. And I don't think they would actually need to fight at all. Sure, the process would be slower, but it would still restore the planet. (Or it would have, until some idiots wasted all the collected energy.)

This is the part where you are wrong, they need to fight, but not fight each other.
There are still legitimate non-sentient monsters in the world, but the Humans basically decided to go after anything that is not Human.

Heck, the world was actually healing until the previous Demon Lord and Hero decided to try go after D, and wasted to much of the planets energy.

I'm glad you understand. Her saving the world was not motivated in the slightest by anything like compassion, as evidenced by her giving a flawed solution and then undermining it further in multiple ways as time went on. And the way she reincarnates her classmate into literal purgatory is another way you can see that she's vile. Why not send them back to Earth or somewhere they're actually safe? And then after they die she collects their souls and we don't know why.

Every time she "helps" it only emphasizes her cruelty. She turned a living, breathing world into a combat RPG for her own amusement, then abandoned it when she got bored.

You can't just look at the things she does and judge her based on that, though her actions there are also pretty damning. You need to understand why she does them. 99% of the time it's to make things more entertaining for herself, aka worse for everyone else. Why would you ever not consider her to be a villain? She literally admits to being an evil god. The whole side story even ended by bluntly saying "This world has been turned into a horrible combat world for the sheer amusement of an all powerful bystander who could have actually fixed everything, but chose not to, because that would be boring." That decision has led to millions or even billions of deaths and an unknown but increasing number of outright soul collapses.

You're right and wrong. They didn't go after D.
    1. The previous demon king and hero from 2 generations ago learned specific things about the system (without gaining a real understanding of it) and were then convinced (tricked) by Potimas to attack the administrators.
    2. The only known administrators for the people of the other world (before the "finale arc") were Sariel (who is necessary for the system to continue working as its CPU) and Gyurie.
The only people who were aware of D's existence before the class got reincarnated would be Gyurie and Sariel, and the real dragons that left who had no reason to talk about an extremely dangerous goddess named D.
This means that Potimas and the hero-demon king duo could only target Sariel and Gyurie, and since they never met Sariel (whether it be through her clone or in person), they could only target Gyurie who they met before.
Furthermore, this means Pope Dustin, the monster-dragons, the demons, the humans, the elves, and everyone else did not know of D's existence. This also applies to the reincarnators (not counting Kumoko after the discussion).
    3. The hero-demon king duo used a dimensional magic and the hero title to attack Gyurie. In theory, a certain percent of MA energy from the attack would be lost but likely not to the point where it was in the story.
    4. Sariel interfered with the attack and redirected it to D. This means Sariel was responsible for sending the energy off-world so that none of it could be recovered. Additionally, if Gyurie was killed within the system, there's a possibility his soul would've been harvested by the system as well.

I don't think there any reason to believe that Kumoko being less clueless would lead to less entertainment.

When I said those in the system I meant everyone including the monsters. Also why do you make it sound like being forced to fight monsters isn't a very bad thing.

I'm pretty sure that not fighting at all isn't really possible since there is danger of monsters attacking them. Besides that not fighting at all would also greatly reduce the amount of energy gathered and it might even be less then the amount of energy needed to run the system and maintain the planet.
