Title says it all, I use mobile data 24/7, and I'm limited to 9.5GB per month, but my laptop has been consuming more or less 1 GB per 2 hours... I have 0 idea what has been causing it.

There was one Windows update downloaded through the mobile data, but even after the update was finished (and before it started too), the absurd consumption of data continued.

Someone told me that I could check my data usage myself, so I tried doing that... The screenshots are all in Portuguese, but I think they should be understandable just by the position of things on the screen? If not, I can translate it.

This was from the Task Manager, which provided... 0 information. ("Rede" should be "Network" I guess? It's the useful information.) It comes since the 26th because I didn't use this computer for some 2 years, and only decided to use it now.

So... I tried checking the settings panel instead... It was... Enlightening?

Sistema is System, I only showed those 2 because everything else was on double digits or less on data usage... I can take a screenshot with it all if needed I guess, I just got lazy.

Uhn... What else... Help? I don't know what could be causing it, only other thing I could think of, was that I downloaded a thing to run the Classic Task Manager (Disabled to allow me to take this screenshot) on Windows 10 because new task manager is honestly useless.

I don't know why my system is consuming my data like that. Any ideas?

Avast might also be not up to date I guess? But I think it wouldn't cause this.

    Mobile tethering is it?

Did you set your 'WiFi' to "metered connection" yet? Should stop all the auto download in the background that you can't see, including the Window Update stuff.

I tried with tethering and with hotspot, got the same result on both.

Metered connection? I can try I guess, not this month because I already reached the data limit, but I can try in April and see it solves the problem.

    Thanks! It's a start!
My data was consumed by the system, not by browser. Ublock won't help.
I do that already? Doesn't solve my problem if I want to work on my computer though.

I used to use an app called Netlimiter to monitor network activity

    Try it

also since this is Windows that's probably the cause... you might want to check that update and whether it 'hangs'

sometimes that update never ends (thus infinitely eats data.. sometimes) unless restarted

had this problem once. did some googling and how to stop and restart it. it updated and voila no more data eater that actually produces nothing while eating away

your laptop is likely with a lot of running programns on the background, likely malware, i recommend that you format your computer and save your files

Have to say someone might have hacked you and placed some data miners... This means that you will be sending data without your knowledge

I have had such a hack and sadly even a master boot record format will not take out the malware... The only option is to get a new system ... Do a crash course on network security and then choose to use only safe WiFi networks

I wish that I knew, but I don’t. And I don’t know my tech friend’s phone number. If the problem doesn’t get solved I’ll consult him!

Seems interesting, but I could find no reviews about it on a quick google search, which is... Weird.

And I think it is paid? I can't afford a program that may or may not solve my problem atm.
The update seems to be finished already... But maybe it is that? I can try taking a look.

    Thanks!
Checked the processes running already, I don't think it is.

Also doubt it is malware, I had not this problem on the last time I connected it to the internet some 2 years ago.
Unlikely I think, but not impossible.
I can easily use less than 5GB per month. I just need to avoid videos images and downloads.

I have been using mobile data 24/7 for a few months now and nevee had a problem, only got problem now because I tried using the PC.
Only wifi I use is my own mobile data.
    Uhn... Check the 2nd screenshot?
I doubt it, but it is possible.

I am really good with these things... The best way to find out if you have been hacked is to go to Users>app data and Programs>app data and check for unknown users and unknown programs....

Next method is to press Control + R and type regedit which gives the registry editor... Over there you will be able to tell if you have malware easily.... Google how to search malware using regedit

This resource monitor would tell you current real time data activity. My guess is Windows 10 being Windows 10. They have dumb gigantic auto update when you allow them.

This sounds like automatic updates (e.g. Windows Automatic Updates, Automatic P2P Update Sharing, Automatic App Updates). You should disable anything automatic. If it's not something of that nature, then you may need a more comprehensive application that allows you to look into your processes. Best of luck.
