Its nice to know that all of the Drama and Angst and Maturing as a Person hasn't effected GTY's ability to sanctimoniously lecture people lol
But there was a lot of this chapter that i can't quite figure out:

• If GTY was waiting for Minglan in the corridor so he could interrogate her about his ex-potential wife and offer to beat people up for her, does that mean he eavesdropped on her conversation with her niece and thats how he suddenly became psychic?
• Why would he beat people up for Minglan???? Yunan I can understand he did her and her family dirty but Minglans just a random kid
• Who is Liang Han?(has he already been introduced???)
• Why did he bring up the Qi family I didn't think that they were that strong of a Minglan backer?
• Manniang ,,,,,, sure Did Something There cant wait to find out what.
• Crickets = Porn ??????????

 

I was really happy to read another interaction between our OTP on Chap 83 but rather disappointed it didn't specify that GTY was marvelling at Minglan's beauty unlike the new ladies that met Minglan that day. Maybe the reference in Chap 83 to the long silence during Minglan's bow to GTY was GTY admiring her form and beauty? Re your questions, this is my take from Chap 83
- I think GTY has been collecting information about her and the Sheng family because Minglan piques his interest and because he wanted to know that Yanran was happy in her marriage. That's how he knew where she would be that day. It's why Minglan says GTY must be/have consulted a private detective.
- GTY offered her help generally probably to atone for his past rudeness. It was Minglan who assumed that help could include him beating someone up on her behalf.
- See first point above. He makes it his business to find out a lot of information about her and her family's connections. This is what GTY does in order to thwart Minglan's marriage to He Hong and finding out about Rulan's love interest to corner the Sheng family into allowing Minglan to marry him.
-Liang Han has not been introduced before Chap 83. I think this is the guy Molan will seduce and marry.
- Manniang ruined GTY's chance of marrying Yanran. See Chap 73 when Minglan tells a few home truths about Manniang to GTY. Later GTY abandons Manniang when he flees the city to leave his bad marriage to Yanran's sister behind him and Minglan wonders if her words then influenced him. I'd say they did.
- No idea about crickets!

The extent of the information GTY has on Minglan and her family is his lecture to her to listen to her Grandmother! I suspect he is also warning her that Liang Han is not a reliable marriage prospect.

 

What happened to Qi hengs wife when?!

 

I don't remember in which chapter but a noble's daughter, a Lady Rong was kidnapped by ruffians but there was no headway on the investigation. It turns out that Qi Heng's wife Xianzhu Jiacheng, the sixth princess' daughter was involved in that kidnapping, the mother arranged the kidnapping, the daughter aggravated it by ordering a rape on lady Rong who commits suicide due to shame. So the brother of lady Rong takes revenge against the mother and daughter by raping them and killing them during the mutiny. Hope this clarifies your doubt.

it is shengwei's daughter in law married to the son that's staying in the capital with them for the sake of exams/becoming an official.... I remember now that her Mother in law was trying to make her stay home but minglan said she should come because her husband would be lonely xD
she was very relieved about this, since she needs to have a son to be secure~~ so her husband going to the capital right after they married...where lots of women are...

it makes sense she would get some since she's in the house, it would be rude not to include her~

 

@Magicwafflez thanks for that, I didn't have a doubt when I read and ignored sister Yun but after reading your post I ended up searching for her for quite a while with no headway.

On another note did you reread the translation for chapter 86, I found that it is translated better than it's previous translation. Or is that my imagination?

 

hm~ it seems the same to me~ even down to the typo where she said kang yuan 'disliked molan and rulan' when it should be 'disliked molan and minglan'...
if they edited things, I would have figured that would be fixed~
I did reread it a few times to get the nuances of their conversation tho~ even tho they're young, they have a lot of subtext, I guess~

 

I guess it was my imagination then, I saw chapter 86 was uploaded 2 hours ago on their site so... I thought maybe it had been edited. My bad, thanks for confirming it.

This chapter was beautiful, it was crude and emotions were laid out bare for everyone to see. I found it very entertaining when Hai shi sends everyone packing one by one.

Another point I liked was that unlike all the other novels that make the MC talk her way out of it with 'clever' words as if everyone else were dumb idiots without any intelligence, in this one minglan deals with things she is able to and there are others to actually help her instead of just looking on. Somehow I got fired up... I just like novels that have in-depth characters, sorry about this rant.

 

I agree this chapter was intense! MVP of the chapter definitely goes to Hai-shi . She deserves the title of the chapter for sure (kinda bummed that shes only identified as changbais wife but its ancient china what can you do)

That bit where Molan was contemplating cutting up Minglans face was really chilling. Like whenever I read Inner court scheming I get kind of inured to the violence because people are just killing and beating the crap out of eachother on a chapterly basis (plus the protagonist halo) but I was actually worried that Minglan could get disfigured QAQ

Im assuming this is Molans big dumb move that the text has been building up to, Im a little suprised because I thought for sure she was going to pull a Lydia a'la pride and prejudice. I mean,,,,, she still could, but I can't see her being allowed much movement. Not to mention Minglans going to be with her cousins for a couple of months so chances are Molans going to be married off if not before her return then right after. I don't really think whatever tragic end /consequences for her actions are going to happen off screen while the MC is in a totally different city.

Patiently waiting for Rulan to compete with Molan (like usual lol) over who can can make the worst decision


also question: When they said last chapter that Molan was entering marriage negotiations did they already have a groom in mind or are they just kinda throwing Molan out on the market??

nah Im familiar with the coming of age ceremony (a v fun wiki dive), it was specifically mentioned as a reason Molan couldn't accompany Old Madam at her great aunt's death bed. Maybe its a bad luck thing?

 

sounds about right... wasn't that why old madam sheng and minglan couldn't go to the funeral with the he family when they met? minglan and co were going to the wedding and thus they couldn't do both... if she goes, she has to mourn, which means she can't look for marriage

 

Seems like our GTY got some much needed character development offscreen so I feel like being soft on him now....praise this guy for truly seeing Minglan as a kid (her physical age) and not be such a creep unlike most MLs.

Poor Hai-shi having to deal with a pig teammate for a Mother-in-law.

Also Wang-shi realizing belatedly that Sheng Hong is cold-hearted that over the years he lost interest playing lovers with his favored Concubine when the son disappointed him. A sad reality for women of the boudoir. Love is fleeting.

 

Now I know why concubine Lin could lord over the actual wife, the wife is just too dumb... and I will be disappointed if Sheng Hong melts again due to concubine Lin's tears. I mean GTY just got to know about his concubine's scheming from a person outside his family and acted upon it but Sheng Hong never believed that Lin ever schemed to gain advantages... or maybe I'm missing something.

I also get the reason Molan turned out like that, she wasn't punished whenever she did anything bad, so of course she would believe scheming was useful to pull wool over others eyes and also her mother is a live example... or are many concubines and their daughters like that? I really don't have a clue, if someone knows please do tell.

I like how the sisters resemble the growth environments, rulan resembles her mother who is hot headed and molan of course pretends like her life depends on it... just like her mother. I just don't get how rulan's elder sister grew up not resembling Wang-shi or is rulan just too dumb to learn from her mother?
