It's an interesting story - only scary part is that the author seems to be in a 'kind of' hiatus atm ... or writer's block ...
Dude all the story I end up liking are hiatus heaven...A song of ice and fire, Hunter x Hunter, Berserk, Zero Sight, Zombie knight, Historie, etc..... and now Legend of the Great Hiatus....
I'm at volume 9, MTL takes the coolness out of the names of the skills and treasure he obtains later.
No word from cvquake yet. etvolare has just introduced "Destroyer of Fire and Ice" today and cvquake starts off with a 15-chapter release (7 chapters more than that previously released on scatterdrift). Cvquake will be doing double releases daily for next few weeks so I guess he must had been busy stockpiling DFI chapters at the expense of LOTGS in the last few weeks. Even though it's somewhat regretful for me (because I enjoy reading LOTGS), I can also understand cvquake's (assumed) decision. LOTGS is from THAT particular publisher. Chinese web-novels are incredibly lengthy and the future translation path for LOTGS is fraught with uncertainty.
Actually, the current lack of chapters has very little to do with DIF. I can only say what I've seen of the QI business, both public and behind the scene, have made a dent in my motivation. Especially with messages from a few err persistent readers about it. I very much love this novel and very much love to translate it though, so I'm not entirely sure what to do about it yet.
Thanks for reply. Not sure if this is of any help but The Dark King's translator made a bold decision to co-host it with the publisher as a compromise. Perhaps you can check out: the translator's note at end of chapter and in comment section: wuxianation(dot)com/the-dark-king/dk-ch-528.html and at end of chapter: wuxianation(dot)com/the-dark-king/dk-ch-529.html Not sure who will own the translated work if no editing or other value-add is done by the publisher.
I also LOVE the novel and would like to see you continue with the journey of translating it through, even if you went to the Dark Side for it, circumstances aren't helping and the future is blurry. But I also would understand if you dropped it even if it might probably fall in the hands of a third rate translator who wouldn't do it justice... frankly I have no advice to give, its such a shitty situation and the publisher just further tarnished their reputation by the recent scummy move they did. You might do it the way CCG translator did by passing through Gravity tho. Wish you the best.
I really hope you would continue to translate the novel. If you are uncertain about Qidian, why don't you have a talk with them? Even if you co-host or translate for them you will be able to translate as you like and also make some living out of it. Anyway Good Luck I guess.
Day 78 @cvquake Is this translation dropped? As much as I enjoy the MC and all, I'm really curious about what happens with Little An.
Just started reading this a couple days ago and now I'm all caught up. Didn't realize it was on a break. Any recommendations similar to this? Out of all the other xianxia I've read, this one has been thoroughly enjoyable. The mc isn't too arrogant and disdainful, tries to reign in his killing impulses, somewhat forgiving of minor things, isn't overly lustful or greedy. His cultivation path is interesting, his teacher figure wasn't overly protective, Little An is bestest, Halfmoon turned out a nice character. Yadda yadda.
On break? o.o ? this thing is not on break... it is the equivalent of shit to any translator not working for QI. this thing has been dropped and left with a 90% chance, that no translator will ever touch it with a broomstick
And if someone does, it'll be some half-assed machine translator over at Qidian, coming nowhere near the quality that CVquake was putting out daily.
Maybe you should also make a topic about it and then fake your account closure in another topic, pretending to be a friend posting on your own behalf. "it's not my fault, it's that translation that did it!"
