I'm looking for any novel including fanfic where a side/supporting character does something horrible to the MC. I'm looking for two types and want to explore the themes of forgiveness and guilt. One is an MC that forgives the character despite everything, not just because it's the right/nice thing to do or to be the better person or just cause the MC is a good person, but because of a beautiful strength, outlook, virtue, or ideal. Something like Glassmaker. The second thing I want to explore is the character having to hold onto that guilt, having it eat away at them, and them trying to atone for it. Them wanting forgiveness, but never being able to get it. Because that's just how it is. The MC might accept an apology or move on, but forgiveness is not given. Because it can't be earned nor is it deserved. One's sins live with them forever.
